Hi all,

IL2-MAT Manager is available for download on my MAT Files download page.

MAT Manager Download Page (http://www.leigh-kemp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/MATfiles.htm)

and my French language MAT Files download page.

MAT Manager Download Page (http://www.leigh-kemp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/MATFiles_FR.htm)

My sincere thanks to a great beta testing team Alexey "Blackbird" Drozdov, Hobnail - III/JG11, JG51_Sgt_T, Klaw - Sim123, Luke97, Oxo - Sim123, RollnLoop, Siegfrid, WWSandman, X-MAN - JG7 and Yuri - 12IAP for all of their work and helpfull sugestions during testing the program.

The download includes both IL2-MAT and IL2-MAT Manager Programs, ALL required MAT and TGA files as well as a comprehensive documentation file. Please take a little time to read the documentation file supplied as it contains important information on installing IL2-MAT and IL2-MAT Manager, configuring these programs and setting program options. I've taken particular pains to try and make the installation procedure and operation instructions as easy to follow as possible. We've managed to squeeze the total package into a single 13.5 MB download.

As many of you will be aware the program has taken two months to develop, test and refine so I'm ready for a short break but I'll be very happy to answer any questions relating to the program via e-mail or my discussion forum.

By the way I'm the curvatious one on the right in the photo above dressed in the delicious little satin number http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

IMPORTANT:

Please try the main download link first and only use the mirror server link if neccessary as there is a bandwidth quota limitation on the mirror server.

Grat and I both hope that you enjoy using the program.

Ok - everything says i have a successful download & I'm printing out the "Word Doc." It looks like I have a lot of reading to to do , but in essence what do I do with this, and do I have to download all the other little bits below main install on site & if I do what path do I use to get to whereIL-2 Mat is instaleed ( somewhere in C: Drive , I know -pehaps under program files...?)Whew alot of things to write on a Saturday Morning!!!

Hi m8,

No you don't have to download anything else as "all the little bits below that" are included in the download http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

There's two bit to installing the programs and files.

Install IL2-MAT Manager and the required TGA and MAT files by running its installer file: IL2-MAT Manager Installer.exe

This will first install all MAT and TGA files, if you don't have FB installed in its default folder then change the path when prompted and click on "Unzip" when these files have been installed the IL2-MAT Manager installer will automatically run. Choose what folder you want the program to install to or go with the default C:\Program Files\IL2-MAT Manager folder.

Then run the IL2-MAT program installer: il2mat_setup.exe

Then have a look at the instructions for correct configuration of IL2-MAT and operation of IL2-MAT Manager.

One main question - will markings created in MAT be visible for other online players, or are they for your own view only?

If you wait until the last minute to do something, it will only take a minute to do it!

Thanks so much! Actually I must be getting better at this sort of thing ( thanks to a lot of downloading fromIL-2 FB...) because I stumbled ( sleepily) into doing the 2-step ( anna one , anna two...)correctly, early this a.m. May I mention I've looked forward to this since seeing your short movie earlier this week- it really perked my interest in whatever this gizmo does( congrats the movie was wonderful& funny too.) Now all I gotta do is figure out how & where to use the marking possibilities that this thing seems to offer.....otherwise it will become part of the dusty corner of downloads that I don't use because it doesn't easily become part of everyday play( campaign, single or UQMG missions...)

Hi zjulik,

"will markings created in MAT be visible for other online players, or are they for your own view only?"

Ah, one of my most frequently asked questions http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, they will display on your PC only, they aren't transmitted to others online.

jamesdietz:

I hope that you enjoy using it, the markings will display throughout FB, in dogfight and coop mission, quick missions, arming screens, track playback and offline campaigns so there should be something in there for you or we've got different games LOL. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Ok - when regarding a successful install , I apparently spoke to soon...I do have the icon on my desktop, I can go directly to theIl2-Mat screen( its neat & I can checkoff the desired changes& go to the game directly from this screen, but so far none of the changes I specify get into the game ( noticably no swastikas or changes in emblem size...) May I quickly add I did do the configure screen as specified in the instructions( see 3.2 configuring)BUt when I try to check off"active" in the same pop-up box I get this message:Custom Artwork not specified" What must I do?
Also I don't seem to get the pictured sides of fuselages seen in the instructions ( not sure I am supposed to , or if so how I get to see these..) but this is a minor issue compared to getting this thing to work...help please?
p.s. I moght add I didnotcopy"il2hook.dlll file into the il-2Mat Folder....could this be part of the problem?

Hi jamesdietz

Two things, have you configured IL2-MAT as per the instructions ? and, if you right click on the IL2-MAT icon in your system tray make sure that there is a tick next to "Active".

IL2-MAT must be running, Active and configured properly for the markings to appear, IL2-MAT Manager doesn't have to be running as it is a GUI for selecting markings and closes automatically if you launch FB, UBI or HL throught it.

OKAY, got it, either you haven't installed the MAT files into the "CoopRegt" folder of your FB folder or, more likely, you haven't configured IL2-MATs "Custom markings location" folder path correctly. If you have FB installed in its default folder then this path must read C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Forgotten Battles\CoopRegt\

Do not forget the "\" at the end of this line.

Please re-read the diagram at the top of section 3.2 for correct setup of IL2-MAT and check that you have a folder called "CoopRegt" in your main FB folder.

Hi jamesdietz,

The only time that I've seen this is when IL2-MAT can't find the location od your custome markings location either because it is incurrectly entered (no applicable to you as you've checked) or because it the path points to a folder which doesn't exist eg. "CoopRegt" folder isn't where the path says.

When unzipping the TGA and MAT files as part of the IL2-MAT Manager installation the "CoopRegt" folder and sub-folders will be created in C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\Forgotten Battles unless you manually change the unzip path to another foldr eg. you might have your IL2 folder on another drive or a differently named folder. IL2-MAT Manager will automatically try and find your FB folder in the default location when it is installed and, if it can't find it, it will prompt you for the location.

Maybe this diagram will help.

Now one question: How can i activate the additional staffel-emblems?

Aces_High_2

Hi Stefan-R

I'm pleased that you have it working. The options to display reduced sized luftwaffe emblems are on the bottom left section of the screen. There are three options, each of which can be turned on or off for single-engined fighter (Jagd) units, twin engined, bomber and recon units and lastly for stuka units. On = smaller size emblems, off = default emblems at larger size.

Hi m8,

6. Staffel StG 77 as a unit isn't included in the game and the redused size unit emblems function will not achieve what you want, however it is possible to use the "squadrons" configuration section of IL2-MAT to "substitute" an emblem of your choice for one or more of the game's default units. I think that I included a suitable unit emblem graphic for this unit else send me one and I'll do you a TGA file which you can use.

BTW this is a good idea for the next version of IL2-MAT Manager, a section where one could choose to "substitute" unit emblems for units not in the game for those already in there as per IL2-MAT's "squadron" config but built into IL2-MAT Manager http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

pacettid:

Thanks Don, all the best m8.

Now i managed to load the 6. Staffel emblem by selecting it in IL2 MAT, but now another question: is it possible to select a emblem in IL2 MAT and than resize it with the IL2 MAT Manager?

Aces_High_2

Stefan-R

Hi,

Glad you managed to substitute the emblem. The answer to your question is no, at least not at present. Each TGA file and that includes emblems has a loader MAT file. My emblem TGAs are re-sized by a set of specially edited MAT files which display them at 50% of their horizontal and vertical size. These are copied or removed when you select on of the reduced size options in MAT Manager.

IL-2 MAT can generate it's own MATs but it doesn't have the re-scale ability. I hope that we will be able to combine these functions into IL2-MAT Manager in a future release.

IL2-MAT Manager as been written as a front end GUI for IL2-MAT for the time being to make the job of manually copying markings a lot easier. It has taken two months of pretty non-stop work from Grat and I to get this far and over a year of work on the graphics and MAT files. In total thousands of hours work, not to mention maintenance of the website, forums, answering e-mail correspondece, helping others with my cockpit files etc. So I think that you can see that these things take a lot of time but I've already started to think about the next version and would value anyone's suggestions.

Last night I uninstalled & reinstaled the program. Before I did I checked to see if coopregt\folder was in the correct place in il-2 Fbfolder-it was& it was apparently full of stuff downloaded from your program.I did note one other sstrange thing : when i would revisit the configure screen after leaving the game or perhaps rebooting the pc the "il-2 location box" shown on the Configuration screen would have turned back to "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\sturmovik\ leaving off Forgotten Battles , that I had changed this to when goung thru install. As I said I uninstalled both il-2mat & manager( but I did not "trash can" the coopregt\folder,)& rerun the install program carefully going according to the book , doing the MAT Manager first, followed by Il-2 Mat. Now I'm back in exactly the same place I was: I can't make the active switch work - still getting the same results as yesterday, the il-2 location box wants to leave out Forgotten Battle ( & oh by the way when I "tick" the BMP>TGA box it takes me to ( of all places) my documents-is this right???) I do have the desktop Icon , I do have the icon on my toolbar,I do have the Il-2 MAT screen full of fun stuff, but when I make my decisions & tick the boxes & then tick "launch" I do get a bar saying " downloading changes in progress " & then I do go to the FB startup screen & game , but no changes have ,of course, happened....I still ask what is going on??

Hi m8,

I'm afraid that I'm running out of options to offer you. I can't replicate the problem that you describe with the IL2 Location path in IL2-MAT not setting to your Forgotten Battles folder. I have never come across this one in over a year of supporting IL2-MAT and it doesn't happen on my installation. Are you browsing for this folder or entering its path manually in the box ? and clicking on OK to save these settings ?.

Yes the BMP-TGA conversion will take you to your documents folder as default you can browse to another folder to look for a BMP file to convert to a TGA if you wish, this is how Andrew wrote it. It's standard practice for a lot of programs to default to this folder as its a standard folder on Windows installations. You needn't bother with this feature unless you want to turn BMP files into TGA files.

The CoopRegt sounds like its in the right place, as per my diagram that I did for you to look at.

Unless you can get the "active" setting to stick in IL2-MAT you won't see any markings.

I'll think more on it but I'm clean out of ideas at the moment.

One last thing you could try editing the IL2-MAT ini file to set the program path, custom locations path and active as follows:

[General]
IL2Dir=C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\
CustomArt=C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\CoopRegt\
Active=1
FileTypes=MAT
DefConfig=0

Just change these lines and not any below them, you can edit the file in notepad.

Thanks Aces...

Downloaded, installed, no problems whatsoever!! BEST set of step-by-step instructions I have EVER seen!!!! I sure wish that paul Lowengrin could get his instructions for DCG to half as clear and simple and effective... His is a great program, but very Non-intuitive..

Anyway, I have one question... Once i have set up teh options I want in Il2 Mat Manager and have quit, teh program will shut down and save those options. then every time I want to fly FB (with those same options), all I have to do is use the IL2Mat.exe to launch FB (with Active Box checked, as i have been doing for a long time...Correct? I Have done this and it works.

Now, if I have IL2 Mat Manager open, and I make a change, let's say, then want Launch FB immediately from that screen, am I correct that before I do so I MUST have aleady activated IL2Mat.exe in my task bar... Or Should I just double click that IL2Mat.exe to launch FB???

I can continue to experiemnt but maybe a quick answer will clarify the procedure..

meanwhile, Jimdietz: When you go to the IL2Mat.exe "configure" screen, Be EXTREMELY careful that the locations ion teh two windows are EXACTLY correct... i have found cases when, for no apparent reason, a space or a dash seems to pop up...Read tehm very carefully and compare to YOUR set of file names in my computer.. Of course, if you use the Browse option to find the locations, you should have no errors occuring...

Hi,

Basically it allows you to display alternative markings such as weathered Luftwaffe numbers, stab symbols, re-sized unit emblems, VVS red stars etc. in place of those supplied with the game.

Here's an example, one of many http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Just got a very heavy Virus alert on your site that you suggested going to in your last posting( in fact my AOL shut down almost immediately !) Suggest you run a check...soon. I think I printed out this entire document during initial download, anyway, but... tell me does most of this wonderful ability to customize staffel markings & stab symbols etc, really apply most when someone does full mission planning? I mean I can see the results during my campaign missions when viewing the planes provided, but rarely are they from the second or third Staffles that the number design & colour apply to...right? Ditto Stab markings...just playing the various single & campaign missions doesn't allow me to specify these markings on the other a/c built in these missions ( or for that matter my own aircraft,) right? I do get to see all the weathering effects , swastika & emblem changes ( very nice too..) however.
Let me compliment this work- really a nice addition to the wide collection of utilities downloadable into the basic game...Its been said by others,& I have to agree- collecting the downloads & incorporating them into the game is almost as enjoyable as actually playing the game. I swear I've learned everything I know about computers by ( initially..& recently in the case of your download,)struggling thru the different processes in saving , donloading & applying the various add-ons that Il-2 offers.. So thanks again & may i say I look forward to further contributions from you in the future??

Hi, I have just virus scanned my documentation file and no viruses found if that's the file that you were refering to ?. I have already scanned this file prior to upload from a different computer with a diferent virus checker.

Now regarding your other points well I supose that one gets out of it what one wishes depending on one's usage habits, some people will probably never see all of the graphics on offer but then again they would never have seen the originals either ! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Hi jamesdietz,

I can assure you that there are no scripts malicious or otherwise in this file. I think that your anti virus software is warning you that Microsoft Word docs can contain macros (mine doesn't) and that these can mask viruses. the file that your are trying to download is included in the MAT Manager download anyway, the reason that it is also available for seperate download is for those who'd like to have a look at the program documentation before downloading if they wish.

I always run every one of my files through anti-virus scanners before uploading and, given the nature of viruses one can never be 100% sure but there have been over 120,000 downloads of my artwork files during the last year and not one report of a single virus.

Thanks ExtremeOne,

I'm really pleased that you are enjoying it. I've been giving a lot of thought to a future version and will happily try and incorporate ideas if they are possible.

Regarding the P-47s and P51s, you should see three digit codes "H01 -H34" in place of the normal two digit numbering when this option is enabled in the bottom right of the GUI. This was designed for a squad who use these historical codes and I though that I'd include it in MAT Manager. I'll test it again at home tonight. They will only appear on 1st squadron planes of the first "regiment" as to do all four squads in all four "regiments" would need an awful lot of MAT files.

Aces,
Great program- obviously the result of a lot of dedication and effort.
Just a couple of comments:

I've found I can change the staffel colours of my flight of aircraft in the middle of a campaign (109F4s with JG52) from white to yellow using your program- but I don't know quite how this works, I just selected all the staffel colours to be 'on' in IL2 Mat Manager and the game decided that my previously first- staffel 'white' flight should become a 'yellow' third staffel. How would I get the red or blue numbers?
Staffel colours do not seem to appear in QMB. Can you introduce this feature at some time?

One slight problem; If I select Weathered National Markings for German aircraft and choose a weathered hakenkreuz I get the required result for German aircraft in QMB. This looks great with scruffy skins.
However, if I then deselect Weathered National Markings (ie 'off') for German aircraft and choose 'default' hakens (ie return to game defaults) the program refuses to recognise this and still gives weathered markings plus hakens in QMB when I reload. This just doesn't look right with very clean, unweathered skins.
Strangely, if I then go back to IL2 Mat Manager, select a year of haken (any year), but still insist on leaving Weathered National Markings off, I do get the required unweathered balkencrosses- albeit with hakens that are inappropriate for certain years.
There's a glitch here I think.
The only reason I point this out is that with very 'clean' skins unweathered markings look better- and I'd like to be able to swiftly return to game defaults without having to worry about which year of hakenkreuz I should choose.

Cheers

Hi BerkshireHunt,

Thanks for you comments.

Regarding the coloured Staffel numbers I can't see how it could turn 1st Staffel numbers from white to yellow ?. The way that it works is that each "Staffel" section contains options to select various sets of different coloured numbers which were used historically for that Staffel. These round buttons actually select the set of numbers and the square box contained in each section actually enables/disables them.

The first Staffel has two possible alternative selections, white with a black outline and the same colour numbers but heavily weathered.

The second Staffel has a larger selection of alternatives and the third and fourth staffels also have more alternatives. As these are hard coded into the very MAT filnames themselves I cannot see how third Staffel yellow could change to 1st staffel white or vice versa etc. If your Staffel itself changes in the campaign then this would explain it.

Regarding the QMB, which of course only allows selection of 1st staffel, 1st gruppe aircraft I have given some thought to including a new section which allows one to assign any of these set of coloured nummbers to the 1st Staffel therefore giving you the choice to substitute these for use in the QMB but of course they would also get substituted throughtout the game and would be non-historical in campaigns and coops etc. but this could easily be reversed by running MAT Manager again and setting things back to normal.

Now regarding the weathered Haken and Balkencrosses this is an interesting one which I need to investigate further but this is the way that its supposed to work. Selecting one of the alternative sets of hakens and balkens actually chooses which TGA graphics files to copy over, including a weathered set of "default" hakens. alongside this one mjst select the "Germany" option in the weathered national markings section to actually enable these eg. copy the required MAT files. When you select the "Off" option to the right of "Germany" then the MAT files will be removed when exiting the program and without these MAT files the game will go back to displaying it's unweathered haken and balkens. Please make sure that you have selected "Off" on this line elese you will still see your choice of weathered haken and balkens.

Best Regards

Hi,

I have checked and found the bug in turning off weathered hakens and balkens and will correct ASAP and release in a new patch. The code is correct but VB seems to have changed an "option box" into a "check box" and is ignoring the selection.

Thanks for spotting this.

Aces,
Your program is definitely changing my staffel colour in mid campaign (but I got the colours wrong). Please try it. This is not a complaint, incidentally- I think it's great- my only disappointment is that it doesn't work for all staffel colours.

I'm flying the standard in- game German campaign for Fighter Group South (Kuban). I'm currently in a Bf109F4, IIIJG52, which (until I apply Mat Manager) has me in the second aircraft at take- off, coded 'Red 2' with a red third- gruppe vertical bar (position is rank- dependent, I believe).
If I exit the game, go to Mat Manager, choose yellow (RLM04) third- staffel numbers (select 'on'), then re- enter campaign- not only has my aircraft changed to 'Yellow 2' with a yellow vertical third- gruppe bar but my whole flight of 6 aircraft has your yellow weathered numbers applied sequentially (which looks very good!). The remaining eight aircraft behind my flight are white coded, as they were originally.
This is repeatable. In effect, I change from being second staffel, third gruppe, to being third staffel. third gruppe
I came out of the game, deactivated IL2 Mat, re-entered the campaign, and the stock red numbers had re- appeared. The eight aircraft behind me on the airstrip stay white coded.
I've done this back and forth several times, turning IL2 Mat on and off, and it's definitely an influence of your program- but I'm interested as to what is going on.

When I try this with the white and blue staffel colours (ie selecting them in IL2 Mat Manager they do not substitute themselves for the stock red digits.
In others words, there seems to be a pathway only between the red and yellow MATs in campaign.

Hi m8,

Whilst I'm not exactly sure what the issue is I did start a new campaign with the details of unit, location and plane type that you mentioned. All the aircraft had my white weathered numbers displayed on them.

The 3rd staffel by default in-game number colour for a Bf109F-4 without my numbers is red with a black border, what they confusingly call "brown" in the mission builder. So if the numbers diplayed without IL2-MAT were this colour then with IL2-MAT they would turn Yellow as that is what IL2-MAT Manager does for 3rd staffel red/black numbers if you enable the 3rd staffel option.

In other words the game defaults are 1st staffel = white, I agree with this historically and thus my numbers are weathered white, 2nd staffel default = black with red border, I disagree with this and feel that black with a white border was more historically accurate although,as you see I have provided alternatives for other fronts as I have been told that red wasn't widely used because of fear of misidentification with red markings on Soviet aircraft. For the same reason the default 3rd staffel red with black outline numbers I beleive were more historically correct as yellow. I agree with the game's default of blue with wqhite outline numbers for staffel 4. All of this is for the Russian front.

I can't jump into the middle of your campaign to invesigate your issue but I'm happy to do so if you can zip up and send your campaign files to me by e-mail. This is an interesting one.

Best Regards
