View Full Version : A great idea for ship hit effects

Attacks on shipping should be a BIG part of PF given the nature of the Pacific warzone and therefore such attacks are deserving of maximum fidelity (to maximise immersion or is that immersions if you will excuse the pun.) I flew CFS2 for a few years and one thing I liked about it (courtesy of an effects patch posted by someone) was that ships when hit, if not sunk immediately (and they often were not) could drift around burning with flames and large plumes of smoke while discharging oil and debris into the water, leaving a large and highly visible oil slick. This looked very realistic and is definitely immersive.

The other thing I would definitely like to see in FB is for ship sinkings to be SLOW SLOW SLOW. It ruins the immersion for me to have a 10,000 ton freighter go down in 15 seconds.

One thing I do not really like about FB is that in ship attack missions the ship is hit and either sinks rapidly with little trace (OK if in shallow water part of the ship may still be visible above water level and that is cool) or there is little or no sign of damage.

These are just ideas but I think they are good proven ones which if taken up could add significantly to this release.

One thing i would like to see is small ships and subs crack in two and jump out of the water when they get hit by a torp

The time it takes for a ship to sink currently is obvi9ously coded someplace. All we'd need is either a place to set the "sinking time" in the properties for a given ship, or to globally set them under "mission conditions."

Please!

I have try in QMB in current AEP. I as flying P38J carrying 12 rockets firing a oil-tank ship. I hit the target with 2 rockets and the ship damage and moving in sink 1 side but still moving in slow speed. smoke coming out from the ship, but imho it's not enought smoke.

If PF can make the ship have big explosion, it's be very nice.

How fast a ship sinks should be relative how much water it's taking in, it shouldn't be a given time.

I agree, yellonet, but if the model isn;t that complex, they could at least make "sinking time" a variable we can control in the FMB.

Ships in PF need to be far easier to damage than AEP, but far harder to SINK.

Sink time will have to be much dependent on damage, or there will be a new type of whining discovered: sink whiners

O, how I want to hold you,
To feel your breath
And hear your laughter in my ears.
To look into your eyes
And see myself in there.
Caress you with my lips.
To hold your hands in mine
And find the hidden smile in your dimple
That makes you irresistible
And stops the breathing in my chest.
To be with you when you are weeping,
To wipe away the tears and take away the sorrow.
To watch you while you are sleeping
Like there is no tomorrow.

And with a tender kiss to wake you up.
