View Full Version : Day and Night in Map Editor

Would love to see the option to have day and night cycles in the editor. Don't know if something that dynamic is possible but I'd love to see it, along with other weather effects, like having it get super cloudy and start raining, rather then just being a static stormy map. Extra weather dynamics like this would really help maps come to life.

Also, really want to see the return of stormy, rainy, and cloudy sky box options. A pallet like Montana can quickly become Washington or Oregon with just a little rain.

Also zombie ai/non-projectile-melee-only ai plz (adding this everywhere cause guys, im desperate)

We had that in Far Cry 2, so as you were playing the map the time of day changed and the shadows moved, you could vote to extend the map time so could go from day to night.

There were issues though because some of us made a map for say daytime and didn't want it played with fog / storms / rain / night etc although it was a really special feature I would have liked the option to set in and lock down the time of day so people would only see it that way or leave it dynamic.

Also there is a MOD on PC where your maps are dynamic but the MOD has to be installed for this to work.

I'd love to have the option at least, like you can choose between it being dynamic or static

I have to agree with fallen about that point. Some maps I made were really meant to be played at night time but if and when the game extended past a certain time it turn from the dead of night to dawn. The shadows were a bit weird and the map sort of lost its edge. Yes day and night cycles would be awesome but I'm not sure in the multiplayer setting. There isn't enough time for the player to enjoy the feature or maps are not meant to be played past a certain time. Horror maps are a good one. The feature is probably best used in a single player/ coop setting like fc4. We spend so much more time in a map here because of the objectives and less focus on run and gun type gameplay.

Fallen mentioned a "locking" system to this feature which would be so cool to have. Hmm... For now I'm okay with setting the specific time for now though. :)

That's why I suggested it as an option. Having more options is always better, and that is what we need-- just the option. Now lets talk about something a little less controversial, like politics.

Definitely worth having the option. Some maps in multiplayer can have an advantage to one team if the shadows make them less visible so time of day is a factor in balancing a MP map for sure. The day/night cycle in FC2 solved that problem if the map was played throughout the whole cycle, but having the option would be a good feature.

I prefer fixed time of day myself, but it's good to have the option for people that want it.

I'm really liking the look of these mods :)
I didn't even realize that fino had made one for the day cycle. It would be best, like you guys said, that it would be up to the editor if this feature is locked or not. It does bring a certain aspect to the maps which I had forgotten since far cry 2. Those memories man.. miss the community from those days. Hopefully they make a return :)
