Ok here's a thought that some of you hosting might like to consider giving a shot or maybe you already have?

I have played on a few of the servers on HL now and I have noticed that just about every one I sign into run's their maps in summer and usually around midday.

This is no big deal but I thought that just for a change I would try moscow at 6 am in the QMB and see what it 'felt' like.

It was great fun and I think even improved my frame rate some? The sim certainly seemed to run smoother.

My thinking on this would be that the game engine is not choking up rendering all those pretty reflections in the water for a start plus there are less textures overall for the lanscape.

I found the visability was good enough for decent play and not really anyworse than daylight missions as far as visability of the enemy is concerned.

So just out of curiousity why not try hosting a few winter dawn/dusk missions in your map cycle and see if there are any noticable difference's in performance overall?

I would be interested in your results. Especialy those that choose to host the 32 player servers as there always seem to be issues with freeze ups on these ones once they get full.

I am not saying this is a lagg fix just that it may help some. Either way this is no criticism and I am very grateful for the efforts that those of you hosting put into providing us with a decent arena for our 'sport'.

Oh yeah if your looking for one to use the Ardenne winter map is pretty good and not too big either.

that is all

Well for the wintermaps, they didnt work with server 2.01. The ded server gave a Java exception error http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I didn't test it yet with 2.04 but will do it soon. For dusk missions... well i'm hosting them also when it's totaly dark. We have a campaign soon to be finnished by one of my squadmates. It starts at 03:00 till 19:00 over a few missions.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Hmmm hadnt heard about that bug would hope that has been fixed with the recent patch.

03.00 am is a little more extreme than I had in mind though and I was thinking of keeping the time fixed or set to cycle after 90 mins say.

Have you noticed any performance improvement during the early hours?

Thanks for the replies

I suppose I should add that I am only really talking about dogfight maps at the moment. I realise you coop guys tend to vary things a lot more in terms of time and location / season. But it does seem that a lot of Dogfight guys seem to be fair Weather fliers lol.
