Whoever it was that mentioned the video series Piece of Cake, thank you very much! I ordered the 3-DVD set and just got it last night. Sat down and watched the first show last night and it's GREAT! Stunning aerial sequences, great shots of Spits starting up, taking off 4 abreast - it's really awesome. I know the original book was written for a Hurricane squadron, but they likely couldn't find enough flyable Hurri's to make the series. I don't really mind, the Spit is such a beautiful bird. I also noticed that some of the spit models weren't around in 1939, but who cares?
Anyway, whoever recommended this video - thanks a bunch for the tip and if you don't have these DVD's, I rate as a must-have for WWII fighter buffs.

You convinced me... I heard good reviews about it, but I was still in doubt whether it's worth buying.

All mighty plastic, here I come. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

It's bloody brilliant, that's what it is.

Thanks for reminding me, it's about time I saw that one again.

I've had a look but the dvd unfortunately seems to be region 1 only, plus the VHS set seems impossible to find.
Oh well I've still got the book and it's still my favourite read. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I have not seen piece of cake since very early 1990, but I remember at that time I really liked it. pbs showed one episode every sunday for a few weeks, I could barely wait the week for the next show.

They really fly under the bridge! Ray Hanna flies the MH 484 under the bridge, that is. They had to chop some trees on the other side to fit the Spit, but everything is real. No special effects in that particular scene.

Why, oh why, did they shoot Moggy?

Yeah I know what you mean, Moggy was by far the best character in the book although iron-filings had his moments too.

Huh! Funny you should mention Piece of Cake. I've just begun reading it again (Nugent and McFee just copped it).
It's a great read and helps fill the void left after Poymandos BOB campaign and my computer developing the st-stutter of the year.
No more FB till I can cure it - damn!

I did want to add one little thing to this thread: A very nice hardbound book about this series was published about the same time it came out, titled "The Making of Piece of Cake." It goes into the screenplay , casting, resons for aircraft choices ( why no squadron codes were used on a/c ( they tried vinyl letters-they blew off!)), stunt flying involved, etc. Lots of pics of sets, props , actors ...If at all interested you might try a bok search...I would think Oleg might find it usefull for some bit of the new sim....

One thing, is that in both the book and movie, Flash takes to flying inverted; is this realistic given that neither early Hurricanes and Spitfires were equipped with fuel injection?

Regarding squadron codes, didn't most squadrons remove them early-on when in France?
