I would want this to be a constructive criticism:
1. Half of the clip - Hurricanes on a take-off and flight. We already know they can take-off and fly - May be you can fake the city of London, balloon barrages, AAA, pilots running to their planes and stuff?
2. Gunners of four He-111 can't take out single Hurricane at 100m - "rookies"?
3. Pilots on both sides can't take deflection shots. Are they all "rookie"?
4. While shoving Hun planes in flight, may be it would make sense to change music to Wagner's "Flight of the Valkyries" and during the dogfight to Aram Khatchaturian's well-known "Sabre Dance"?
I do understand - you were trying to synchronize action with music, but still - try to make it faster passed even at the beginning - there is no sense of urgency. The dogfight should also take place over the city or at list over the coast.

hi, thanks...
the problem was.. ( because it was my first movie )... i made the video sequences before choosing music... but that was a mistake... you first have to choose an audio track.. and then you can record video...

thanks to Boandlgramer... he told me which music i should use...

Was it the Gladiator`s soundtrack? Some themes were similiar, I am not sure...

Hey, check out the "Schmiedellied" (The Forging song) theme from the Ring, it would be perfect for underlining bombings, plane`s firing.

Don't take those criticisms to heart JU87, I thought that film was really good. I am usually very critical of players movies but I liked yours.

Common mistakes in making IL2 movies:

1) Too one sided ie a movie showing how a squadron of 109s or Yaks can destroy a formation of bombers plus all their escorts without taking any losses themselves. You showed a more 'balanced' view with aircraft lost on both sides.

2) A movie that consists of little more than 10 sequences of a fighter shooting at a bomber that explodes immediately or worse still a fighter taking out four bombers with each pass. You showed plenty of variety in subject matter and the kills were not too easy.

3) Overuse of the 'flypast' shot ie You see the squadron fly towards and past the camera then immediately you see the same shot again twice more. I think you only showed one flypast and that was effective and enough.

4) Jerky panning round the aircraft. Your panning was extremely smooth.

5) too many shots of aircraft crashing. I don't think IL2 models crashes very realistically so the less of them in the movie the better. I think you showed just one crash and it was into water so did not look too bad.

I liked the fact you started with the hurricanes taking off rather than just jumping into the dogfight immediately. You did not spent too much time on it.

The camera angles were good. I liked the shot over the nose of the parked hurricane and I liked the inclusion of the 'White Cliffs' to emphasise where we were. I liked the panning shots of 'mid-ground' aircraft with aircraft in the foreground.

The fact that the deflection shooting was poor was *not* unrealistic. Lack of skill in deflection shooting was probably the most common fault in fighter pilots and calculating the correct deflection while pulling Gs was a skill few plots possessed.

I am not sure about the lack of skill from the He111 gunners. On the whole bomber guns were not terribly effective except as deterents and while the hurricane did come in fairly slow on their six he did not sit there begging to be shot down. Perhaps he pushed his luck but I feel in real life he could easily have got away with it especially if the other three He111s were busy watching the other hurricanes.

The only real fault with the movie was the music; it did not really fit.

Minor niggles:
If you were to remake the movie, apart from changing the music, I would suggest you get the hurricanes to take off in rough line abreast. When scrambling (or even starting a routine patrol) they would not have lined up in line astern at the end of the runway.
Showing the pilots running to the aircraft would have been a nice touch.
It would have been a nice bit of 'closure' to have shown the surviving hurricanes breaking off and landing, perhaps with obvious but minor damage. Maybe show a squadron of Spitfires joining just before the hurricanes break off to show they were 'passing the baton' rather than just abandoning their posts http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A pain to download and unrar, but the camera angles were excellent, you should have thrown in hazy settings with alot of clouds to make it look less bland in the sky. And the music seemed to make it seem very slow.

I liked the beginning...was anticipating more...The whole *.RAR thing with multiple parts got too complex for my old head... Couldn't get it all loaded into the right folder... I only got the first couple parts loaded.. A Darn Shame.. Why not just Zip it like everyone else?? Or just Host it someplace so it can be downloaded in one piece...or streamed...??

From what I saw, that first maybe 1/6 or 1/5 of the movie, I Liked the Blending/Overlapping/transitioning between clips(views/scenes); The introductory music was Good and Involving, in an impending sort of doom/Important future coming around the corner; I like the Impression of the Cliffs of Dover(Crimea??); Panning with the mouse troubles ALL of us IL2:FBMovie makers!! The first, Not the Last, criticism of MY first/onlymovie was something like "NEVER Mouse-Pan" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I LIKE your choice of format, with regard to size....Roughly 320x240 gives a very appropriate "viewing screen/size" with the right balance of resolution Vs File Size; those that produce 'videos' with Super-Resolution for Full Screen viewing, with a resulting 7 Minute movie that 'costs' the downloader/host 100MB in file size..well, it's Just not Ever worth it...IMHO

The downside is that I couldn't get all the parts in the right folder and it got too complex to do so...so I gave up. I REALLY would like to see the whole Movie!!!!!

What IS the Advantage of this RAR Application over the basic ubiquitous ZIP application??? I cross paths with *.RAR now and then, Rarely, and I just don't get it! ?

Fantastic! I would've paid to see that at a better quality/resolution!

You have potential!

Really like the takes, those nose shots from take off on the airfield are great. Dogfight takes are fantastic and different to what've seen so far on IL2 short film.

The music is great, really love Hans Zimmer, use this particular piece "am I merciful" in a short IL2 film I did right after the Ubisoft contest, his stuff is great...just need to time the music at the right moment and you got a great mix. Music is the soul of a movie.

Keep up the good work, will keep an eye on your continued work!

Am I missing something or are you? I just downloaded all seven files to the same directory and clicked on the first file. WinRar opened it and I clicked on the film (BattleOfBritain.asf) and the whole thing played from beginning to end (6m 33s). In fact if you click on any of the 7 downloaded files it plays the whole film. Apart from the fact you download 7 files instead of 1, playing the movie is no more complex than if it had been in a single zip file, ie you open one compressed file and click on 1 file inside it.

One of us is confused http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nonsense, I verified the joints twice!: This was the answer given by chief Mechanic Klaus Stoeffel to Oberst Lotar Von Müllenbrock when he complained about some strange vibrations in the wings of his Me-262 during take off. This picture show that Oberst Von Müllenbrock's fears were in fact quite real.
