Though the first Chrysler Corporation-built Hemi engine for an automobile appeared in 1951, the first Chrysler Corporation Hemi ever produced actually appeared much earlier - and powered an experimental WWII fighter. The XP-47H, with 2500-horsepower, Chrysler XI-2220, Hemi!

Everytime I see a photo of that inline equipped Thunderbolt my mind just goes on strike.

Like seeing a rhino walk around the corner and instead of a horn it has a trunk. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

Paint it black and slap a truck bed on that bad boy, and you have the new body styling for the next Dodge truck...well, minus the fifties.

cheers

That would be even faster than the normal Jug!! about same horse, much less drag! OooooOOOoooooo.

I know what you mean. Kinda ugly as sin. Would have been damn-awful to taxi...or land.

The XP-47H was a sin and a blemish on the P-47 line. Fahgetaboutit. It didn't perform like it was supposed to either. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Now, the XP-47J, she's a beaut.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v30/Cajun76/xp-47j.jpg

Or the XP-72, a monster derived from the P-47 design with a 3500hp Wasp Major stuffed into it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

Also the xp 72 was configured to carry the normal 8 .50 cals OR had an optiion for 6 37mm cannons. OMG lol

Im a little partial to the idea of the MoPar Jug, being a Chrysler man myself. That and the fact that it was built ten minutes from here!
Sadly, the only way anyone would know is a tiny national Historical Marker in front of the Whirlpool plant.
