Generally refers to a set of random and short manuvers designed to throw off the aim of your attacker.

While I don't have a precisely clear image of what jinking is...but when you're chasing a guy online and he starts doing half rolls and short violent climbs and dives thats essentially what he's doing - trying to jink his way out of your gunsights and make it hard or impossible to lead your fire into him.

Jinking basically means you're screwed.

As I've heard it defined, jinking is what you do when you're completely defensive and all of your regular maneuvers and tactics have failed.

In short, you've got nothing left, so you just start dodging as randomly as possible in a last ditch effort to throw the attacker off and not get shot down in the hopes that it buys you enough time to withdraw and either run or regroup and attack again.

Jinking is like a "juking" in football.

You fake one way and then go the other. It's a diversionary tactic (used by aces)

Thank you guys, for answering my question!

Hey now - I am no ace and I "jink!" Or - does that make me an ace because I "jink?"

Actually, jinking works best against AAA. If you find you are jinking when you are being shot at from behind, then yes, I think you are done.

Fighter Combat
by Robert Shaw
page 28:

"Snapshots at high angle-off are relatively easy to defeat with out-of plane "jinks."

Websters:

Pronunciation: 'ji[ng]k
Function: intransitive verb
Etymology: origin unknown
Date: 1785
: to move quickly or unexpectedly with sudden turns and shifts (as in dodging)

Shaw distinguishes between a "Break" turn and a "Jink" in that the Break turn is defensive to break an enemy tracking and put that enemy on the defensive by turning as much as possible into the attack.

A Jink is an out of plane maneuver to spoil an enemies shot possibilities.

If the enemy is seen in time a break turn can be made, if the enemy is seen to late a Jink may be required.

this is how it is described on this site, aolong with other useful manouevers.

http://members.tripod.com/~F15EEagle/jinking.html

Jinking
This is a defensive ploy against an attacker who is sitting on the defender's tail within gun range with little or no overtaking speed. It is a series of random turns, skids, pitch-ups and yaws to spoil the attacker's aim. While the attacker is able to retain the advantage, the longer he is forced to concentrate on attaining a shooting position, the more nervous he is likely to become about what is going on behind him.

Odviously, at this point the defender is in a desperate situation, about to be shot down, following a break with rapidly decaying airspeed.

If you're an ace, you won't have to jink.

Jinking is a pathetic atempt to stay alive when You have gotten so low & so slow that you have no hope of living...

ACES.... Fly High, Stay Fast, Never have to Jink because they can stall you & force the overshoot at will...

Jinking is what people do when they want too Ruin there Joystick cause there slaping it around wildley

Hoping against hope that they can make the Bandit eating there six off, crash into him or miss the shots Trust me it rarley works...

Speed is the best solution for evading bandits or should I say proper speed control...

This might sound harsh, that I say Jinking is not for ACES & is a weak last resort tatic that rarley works... but you asked & im telling you only my opinion.

Im sure RBJ has to do alot of Jinking Muahahahahhahaahahah.

A valid tactic that has a solid chance of working is called sicssors....

Scissors is a form of Jinking because you are evading enemy fire while you are trying to force the enemy too overshoot you, so that you can find a firing solution its much more fun to scissor than it is too Jink because you can actualy win the fight by imploying this manuver Im not going to tell you how to do it you can search the net & learn tho

Good Luck

This guy is too much! RBJ, why don't you write a book on being a virtual ace? Us non-aces would be grateful!
