While hopes were high for success, getting the exact fuse timing right proved difficult :>

That's an IL-4 dressed up in a Betty skin. Makes a good replacement since it catches fire so easily.

Good example of how much distributed damage Il-2 planes can take and still remain together, as long as it's not all taken in the one damage zone. A 1000Kg bomb going off and exploding a chain of 50Kgs upwards just isn't survivable, however :>

Arrows and thought bubbles appear when arcade=0 is set to arcade=1 in FB's conf.ini file.

Blimey! Nice one /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

There's a feature on this month's 'The Aeroplane' on a Zero pilot (Sadamu Komachi) and he talks about this 'Sangonadukan' or 'Aerial Mine':

"The Japanese began air-to-air bombing on Allied bombers in May 1942, dropping long delay (8-10sec) fused fombs from 3,000 feet above the bombers, wich would detonate in the middle of a formation, causing havoc to the bomber stream. Each bomb contained shrapnel pellets and yellow phosphorus, the later causing the fuel tanks to rupture and explore".

"We called it the 'Buckshot Bomb', and when we first took delivery of it we were given no instructions at all as to how to use it. It was case of getting up there and seeing what worked best".

Thanks for the screenshots /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
