I have been thinking about how long WWII flight sims will be accurately made. With time, the WWII vets will pass away, and information about the planes will become harder to find. There already isnt a lot known about many of the planes in AEP. There will probably always be WWII flight sims, but will plane flight characteristics be guessed on more and more?

NO....maybe still the fantasy ones. Im not sure if a game engine can hinder actual performance of an aircraft, I know nothing about developing games, but Im sure they will get better before extinct.

"Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary force:
You are about to embark upon a Great Crusade toward which we have strived these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking" - Gen. Dwight D. Eiseinhower-Supreme Allied Commander.

you're forgetting that a lot of these aircraft still exist and fly today ... and theoretically could even be rebuilt to some degree of accuracy from scratch ..

+ we have an enormous amount of data on how the handle that is being preserved in writing, and in software such as il-2

Lack of recorded test data and flying antiques do not stop a few from dreaming of a hardcore WW1 sim.

Most likely the modding of FM will become better with more computer power and experience.

Ironicly enough, I think we are actualy part of living History right now guys.

When you look at Oleg Maddox and what 1C is doing with Combat flight simulation for the WW2 era.
Some words that come to mind are, Bench mark,
Historic.
I think long after this series of 1C Sims, Oleg Maddox and our generation passes on, people may well look back with interest at what could be called this era of Software History.

There is already a new Online Global reference to slightly mis pronounced English amongst Online Gamers particularly in WW2 Combat Flight Sims.

We all know its Olegish!

IL2 is limited by horsepower to run it but as the years pass we will obviously see much more in terms of things like number of planes, quality of AI, graphics, more accurate collision modelling, etc.

What sets IL2 above and beyond any other combat sim is the amount of research and integration of data into the game aspiring toward more accuracy. This is not a programming or gaming thing but real-to-life collection of flight modelling data, cockpit photos, ballistics data, etc., etc.

The proper integration of this research is subject to debate and much conjecture but until somebody else does the sheer volume of research and collection of rare data then [/i]nobody[/i] will ever approach IL2 in the sense of historic accuracy.

You can make the game prettier, faster, or more "fun" even but without the research background collected by 1C and the community it will only be a game compared to this sim relatively speaking. Scary thought really.

I know a lot of guys throw the 'Russian bias' thing around a lot and who knows? It is almost impossible not to be biased in some way or other when making decisions based on conflicting data but I think Oleg does his best not to be biased, especially in regards to his own nationality. That's just my opinion.

Records exist, and always will, for the main planes that are to be modelled.

It's like saying: we dont know what happened during napoleonic wars because there's noone alive...well thats not true.

The whole of human civilization is what it is, is because of ACCUMULATION of knowledge, not complete replacement of it.

Who knows what will be possible in the future?
Perhaps modelers can take a detailed plan of a plane, enter it into the computer and let the computer build a flightmodel from scratch.
