I'm new to online gaming andthe first thing that struck me in dogfights online was that something wasn't right.
Reading the threads in the general forum the general consesus is that there is no real cheating, yet cycling through the opposition aircraft I saw them bouncing in and out of the water - fling with one wing below ground level etc.
Also the ease with which my aircraft is destroyed with apparently only a couple of rounds of machine gun NOT cannon fire is surprising!
Are all these thing attributable to lag or am I a lot worse than I realised?

Lag. IL2 is very prone to lag. You will see some odd things, but keep an eye in the upper right hand corner. There is a lag meter. IF you see it in the red, then you know some funny stuff will happen. I myself have not seen any real cheating since IL2. Also they promised a re-hashed network code to help fix lag in the latest patch.

Not so much lag as packet loss, but still an internet issue rather than a game or cheat issue. Ask in the technical support forum about ways to tweak you system for stable internet connection and be careful about which servers you fly on. The problem can come from your machine, your ISP, the host's machine, his ISP or just general traffic clogging on the internet.

Yes. It happens from time to time.

Saw a StuKa warp at about 3000kph over the ground once.

Weird thing to see, but they said the patch will improve the netcode, too. I really hope so, though this is not a real big problem, IMHO. Mostly it happens, when somebody has a slow connection and there is no patch in the world, that would fix this /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
