http://www.hollowlife.net/How%20Bitter%20A%20Victory.avi

39MB, 3minutes, 14 seconds long.

The music was kind of a placeholder, but I left it in, unable to find a piece that fit real well.

Also, you can download my first IL-2 movie at http://www.hollowlife.net.

I plan to host all my future movies here, and will gladly host other peoples' movies if they need a host.

I hope you enjoy it, and I'd love to get your comments and critique. Thanks. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

EDIT: My very first movie from the original IL-2 is here: http://www.hollowlife.net/Warriors%20of%20the%20Sky.avi 25MB

VERY slick video...btw what editing tool are you using? That 'impact shake' is HELLA cool, and it isn't in Movie Maker 2.o..or is it?

Thanks, Blade. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif To get all of the shaking, I had to edit each clip in Animation Shop 3. It's a time-consuming labor of love, but I think the end result makes it worthwhile.

BTW, thanks for pointing me to that site! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

fan-fricking-tastic!!

though i am a little upset that you got "camera shake" in before i did, i had it planned for my next vid in low level fly bys http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif to look like the ground rumbling as a p47 flew by.. ahh you'll see http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

outstanding!! I loved it, excelent use of visual effects to add realism, nice and smooth, good camera work! definatly on the right track.

2 ideas,
first skins, because you made it so well, high detail/smooth/nice camera shots you should probably use really nice skins that can show your work off(as well as the skins). A nice skins can really add to the realistic look. When the work is of such great quality(as this is) it begins to look more like its own video, then just a recording of a video game. Search through il2skins.com for some "realistic" skins to add to that "its own movie" feel.

second is of course the music, it fit well for the first half but was kind outa place when the action hit, still sounded great. Overall it the music was still ok because it had that "dream" feeling and your effects matched it well.

seriously! great work, now get going on another http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I assume like me, your first was more of a "test of concepts", seeing what you could/couldnt do, what it would take to do certain things. And im guessing your next will be even better with a more dedicated story and all that jazz http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I really cant wait, what the hell are you doing still reading this, get to work!!

again phenominal work, all around, top notch, nothing less(dont let those threatend by a good movie tell you otherwise). Wellcome to the movie making club, a brilliant addition it is.

hey, get to it!

VERY creative shots. I was surprised to see the blur effect(not the shake) used as I thought I was the only one planning it. The use was excellent and also enjoyed the shake. I am very interested in seeing your next projects as I like your vision in this one. What capture device did you use FRAPS 1.9?

This is NOT a criticism, but I really missed the in game sounds especially with the blurred/motion fly bys and the explosions, it might have added that extra bit of immersion.

S! to you for taking time to be a contributor in the niche movie making.

I appreciate it, guys. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I actually bought FRAPS 2.0, but ended up using only it's most base features.

I would really love to have sound, but that's going to take some work, mainly because I can't use your trick of recording at 15fps, and processing at 30fps.

I'll certainly give it a try in the future, and it would be nice to get my money's worth outta FRAPS 2.0. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Davinci, you're right about the skins, and I had not thought of that. Kinda helps convince the viewer he's watching a movie, and not a flight sim. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Motion blurring effect is pertinent. BGM is good choice.

When I watched the movie first, I guessed you to be the maker of the older movie "Warriors of the sky". As I checked your homepage, I found my supposition right. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Great film!

You most likelly used Premiere and After Effects. I have seen this type of Color Embosing and Camara Shake before on one of the Ubi IL2 contest movies, did you made that movie? It used a musical piece from the movie "Starship Troopers"... are you that guy?

Anyways if so or not, your work is very good, like the story, not many show the bomber's point of view. Really wish to know how you made some of the effects.

The song is from I-WAR2? Correct me if I am wrong but it is great stuff.

Also but not least, I might surelly take you up on the hosting offer that you made. Will send you a message when I have it ready if it's OK with you.

Keep up the great work.

Yup, I did "Warriors of the Sky", and I submitted that film for the movie competition, but the server it was on at the time got hosed, and I couldn't use it. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I have a list of all the programs I used on my site, but I've not tried Adobe Premier or After Effects. I'll definitely look into them, though.

To get the blur, I had to apply a motion-blur effect to the frames, one by one. Start small, go big, then small again. Takes a while, but it looks too nice to not use it, IMO. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

NTESLA, I'd be more than happy to host any of your movies for ya. I have 500MB of storage available, and am hardly using any of it.

Great!

Thanks for the offer, it will be for my three new movies that I will be bringing out as soon as we get the Add-On from Oleg (when ever that might be).

You know, that I really liked your submission and did not understand as to why you did not even get mentioned but seems like you explained it already as to what happened.

Many times I look over that first movie you made and show it to many people as how you captured the action, it is great stuff, same thing you did with this bomber mission movie...really good work. This new one will go into my collectors HD space for IL2 movies!

Well done mr! The shakes truly adds a "real world" feeling.

The final moments of the He111 when bluring and black'n whitening was a great effect.

Amazing vid!

Wish it could have been longer.

Loved the last bit with what I think was the pilot's left view of the shattered cockpit glass and shot up wing...

Great Job.....Great camera work....camera shakes was very different and fresh...love it!

Using the He-111 was cool.....don't see filmmakers using bombers very much.
Great camera shot of the Pe-8 getting destroy from ground level....Awesome!!

Watching the bomber hit the ground from inside was a great shot.

Great work! Look forward to the next one.

that was some great camera work, but i didn't like the music too much. the music set a good mood, but it was too repetitive.

my favorite shot was the pe8's getting destroyed. i don't know how you did the camera shake and other features, but keep up the good work.

XyZspineZyX

Yeah, Timothias, the music was initially a place-holder, but I had to work the music around the video, instead of vice versa.

So it was difficult to find something that fit the length, so I left it as it was, even though it didn't fit the action at the end.

Fear not, however! I now know my mistake, and my next film will match the music just as it should. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Have a real nice piece from Gladiator I want to try and use.

I can only think of one word, quality.

I might just not bother with what I was working on as there is no way it's going to be as good as that. Thank you for raising the bar to an even higher level.

btw, is the resolution better in Fraps 2.0 and do you think it shows through in the video? And how did you get the avi so damm small, I don't seem to be able to get them under 8GB http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

112th Scavenger Squadron

XyZspineZyX
09-21-2003, 11:35 PM
With FRAPS 2,0, you can record in higher resolutions, although I still used 640 x 480, so I could bump up the graphic details to max. It can also record sound, which I also did not do, because if you edit your clips, you must edit the sound, which is very difficult.

When your final AVI is put together, you need to encode it into a DivX AVI. You'll lose some quality, but it drastically reduces the filesize, so that others can watch it.

You can use a program like VirtualDub to do that. http://www,virtualdub.org

BTW, CGA Texas, don't stop your work on account of anyone, especially me! I'm a nobody. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I'd love to see it when it's done, and if you need a host, I'll even put it up on my site for ya! =)
