I'm not quite sure about that, but why would you want 1080i while 720p is better. It's also less taxing than 1080i.

They're talking about high-definition formats.

1080i = 1,080 interlaced scan lines

720p = 720 progressive scan lines

Totally understand your perspective embargiel, but unfortunately, a large number of HDTVs don't support 720p - a good number of plasma displays do as do the Rear Projection Hitachi's, But my Mitsubshi does not support 720p directly, as is the case with almost all other RP HDTVs.

Hey, is your idea to say that 1080i is supported more than 720p? That many more HDTV supports 1080i, but only a little number of them are supporting 720p? Well, if it were to be true, just FYI, more Xbox games support 720p than those support 1080i.

I'll add a bit more background for those interested but unfamiliar.

Yes, it is true that more games support 720p. As you say, it is "less taxing" or easier to implement 720p (at least according to some sources). Regardless, if you check out any of the Home Theater/HDTV forums (www.hometheaterspot.com (http://www.hometheaterspot.com) is as good as any and most have "gaming" sections) you'll see that folks frequently lament the dirth of games supporting 1080i and confusion at the number of games supporting 720p - as it is common knowledge in these groups that few HDTVs support 720p.

Currently here is the breakdown of HDTV support in xbox games -

1080i/720p/480p -
Dragon's Lair
Enter the Matrix

720p/480p -
World Series Baseball 2k3
Soul Calibur II
NBA 2k3
Street Hoops
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4

All other games support 480p.

-------------

Is it safe to assume XIII will support 16:9 and in-game Dolby Digital?

To those that don't know what 16:9 means...
Most HDTV monitors are widescreen - a 16:9 aspect ration vs the bore box shaped aspect ration of a 4:3 television. The games listed above and about 1/3 of all others support a 16:9 aspect ratio. All other games are scaled by the xbox itself (hence a circle is rendered as a "fat" oval).

- a 16:9 aspect
- ration vs the bore box shaped aspect ration of a 4:3
- television.

hehe... that was purely an editing mistake, but makes for amusing reading I guess...
HDTV is no less than amazing compared to regular TV, but I would not be so elitest as to call regular TV "bore box".

should read -
"a 16:9 aspect ratio vs the box shaped aspect ratio of a 4:3 television."

Will ever XIII be a TV show?

I'm from Sweden!

Ok, I'm never becoming that much of a geek. This whole 720p, 1080i stuff, who cares?!? A game's a game, don't worry about "interlaced blah blah blah" and all that other crap. Just play the game (when it comes out) and be happy with it. Or don't be happy, return the game, and DON'T rant on about how it won't support 720p and such. Jeez, I just entirely wasted my time because I know that all of these people are going to flame me for hating their precious HDTV's and their love of 720p garbage.

your right whe nit comes down to the nitty gritty it really does not matter I have HDTV and you really can't tell the difference even though I paid big money to tell the difference I can with DVD's but games that support it it's not that noticeable maybe later on but sound is really important to me

Yeah, I think the sound can make or break a game, really!
