the trigger lag on any game above 75 ping is bad... but the worst bug is the freezing timer at 1 second, i got it twice in 30min. that has GOT TO BE fixed.

Being able to "Run and Gun" ruins the game. Make it like it used to be in the R6 series (standing still to accurately hit a target).

Weapons realism when in referance to:
1. Ballistics
2. Recoil
3. Suppression
(the m4, p90, g36k, and LMG's(particularly m249) have to much recoil...and the 5.56mm is way to damaging when considering its reallife counterpart which takes several shots to kill.

How come the same bugs we've seen since the demo haven't been addressed? Ladder bug, nade bug, etc.

The new server crashing @ 1 second is important as well.

stand-alone servers...where are they and will they fix the massive memory hemmorage in the current UCC.exe?

06-20-2003, 06:55 PM
My question:

Are there any plans to replace the archaic server-side netcode with some halfway decent client-side code ?

06-20-2003, 06:55 PM
Will the team always look at 'system' problems first and leave the 'game balancing issues' later, or is there some sort of priority?

I am referring to the CMags problems / run and gun tactics / reticule bloom / suppressed weapons / speed of changing position / random start positions in multiplayer etc.

is netcode going to be even touched in future patches?

if you want to see a successful conversion of netcode and popularity of a game increased, take a look at quake. its netcode was server side, bleh. then when quakeworld came out it was a dream for even 200 pingers because it was client side netcode, and it added YEARS and YEARS of life and a much broader audience to the game quake. heck people still play on quakeworld today. lag free competition online makes games last for long periods of time. so make ravenshield world!

Frames per second. Do they actually realise it is a problem? I have seen no formal acknowledgement of it. And, I don't mean the FPS in firefights, I mean the FPS people are getting on good systems, and the fact that changing graphics settings does close to nothing. 06-20-2003, 08:49 PM
The original bugs that existed way back in the MP demo need to be addressed.

"Sticky" grenade bug still happens, the zoom lock still happens, the ladder bug, etc...

Once that stuff is squared away, lock someone in a room and make him work 24-7 to optimize the netcode. SERIOUSLY. Make it run like UT2K3 and you'll have us singing the praises of our beloved Ubi.

would like to see whiners stop their complaining about "balancing the game play". the game is fine right now, learn to play.
there are various little glitches that should be taken a look at, ie. frag lock, ladder bug, no mouse ret lock, sound glitches, door glitch, peeking in spec mode. i know some people will argue that some of these glitches are caused by lag, but they are glitches nonetheless and should not be existant. netcode is fine in my opinion; all the players i know do not get trigger delay because they're all on broadband. so if you're on 56k, too bad for you. the developers aren't obliged to modify their game so they can accomodate below standard internet connections.

3 issues but I'll be concise;

1/. Ladder/nade/startup bugs

2/. CD key errors (of various sorts)

3/. FPS

4/. Bot AI (very distant 4th as I really only play online now but SP gamers would luv it remedied) ie door breaching/nading/entry, etc

Sorry I cant count!

Server 1 second crash bug has to be dealt with quick, hehe!
Please let admins have more power over hosting.
1. Admins should be able to force start the game even if there are people not ready.
2. Admins should be able to password protect the game once the game has started or be able to change the password while in the chat screen.
Thank you

1) FPS - This game is a FPShooter and good frames (90+) is the only way to make it enjoyable as anything lower than 30 -- which is the norm on high end systems -- Makes it harder to AIM which is the name of the game.

2) Netcode - Terrible, terrible, out-dated, buggy "server side" netcode has got to go and be replaced with client side hit prediction and other modern netcode features.

3) R6 and Tango AI in Single Player - Tangos need to be more human and not head-shot machines.

R6 Teams need at least the AI level of GR troops even if that is a little "inhuman" in some instances... But would be fine if you don't tone down the Tango AI.

4) All the bugs that the MP Demo had in them are still in the retail release in both SP and MP.

That is the biggest thing that is ticking most of us who bought the game off.

This is the number one thing (even though it is five on my list) that is killing this game and doesn't have to.

Much like the old R6 and RS server consoles. I agree with helping the server admins out. We let people play your game.

BTW - Why wasn't the webadmin enable in this game? It's probably one of my favorite things about the UT engine. Then we wouldn't have to worry about not being able to play in our own servers.

06-20-2003, 09:09 PM
- CMags - when equipped they need to lessen the accuracy of the gun to prevent Rambo playstyle. OR, cannot run with CMags?

- TK penalty system needs 3 things 1) TK'er cannot penalize another after he TK's. 2) TK's are cumulative (kill 3 teammates, sit 3 rnds). 3) Votekicks/bans should last a MINIMUM of 10 minutes.

06-20-2003, 09:11 PM
Definatley the netcode - people 'popping' in corners etc.

06-20-2003, 09:26 PM
NETCODE NETCODE NETCODE...im sorry for being p1ssed but im pretty sure its understandable given the circumstances. server-side netcode has ruined my gaming experience. i had a better MP experience with CS cuz it wuz client-side.

trigger lag
i love how the game plays on my LAN when i host, but online its a joke
please sort it

06-20-2003, 09:57 PM
the major problem i have which i havnt seen here is this: when i quickly glance around a corner it looks empty, when i step around it a terror pops up out of thin air to shoot me. ive had this quite a lot, i only play terrorhunt.

06-20-2003, 10:21 PM
Its been Said before and i will just reinforce the idea Please Fix The FPS (Frames Per second), COuntdown Bug, Shadow Bug, Ladder bug and Netcode. Don't get me wrong the game is definately playable for me but the iceburg can't be too far away and when its hits it will be an EPIC day in game History. Thank You

06-20-2003, 10:27 PM
The number one problem for me is the netcode.

Anytime my ping is above 80ish I get a bit of trigger lag and people just appearing after running past corners, etc. When I host this all goes away so I assume there is something wrong with the way RvS sends and interprets data to and from my system. This needs to be fixed asap as it just turns online play into a crapshoot.

I am on cable and generally ping 30-60 on any east coast server if anyone was going to blame it on the connection at my end...

06-20-2003, 10:45 PM
Not being able to enjoy servers with 80ms ping times or higher because of the stupid trigger lag. Why did you guys (devs) choose such a horrible way to limit broadband only from playing.

Please don't say you can have fun with 100ping or higher, thats a lie.

06-20-2003, 11:01 PM
People materializing out of thin air (versus smoothly appearing around corners/stairs/windows/etc).

You know what I mean, somebody comes from the door, you should first see leg/arm, shoulder, torso/head, the whole guy. Now it jumps right to the whole guy and you just keep wondering where the heck he came from. Especially noticeable with low ping (and I mean low ping for real, got 100mbit connection).

I can live with anything else but this is just annoying. Can't believe nobody else has mentioned this before.

06-20-2003, 11:03 PM
I'm going to have to say netcode. My opinion might be biased because I am on 56k (please no stupid replies to this post, broadband people are asking for this too), but look at games like quakeworld, counter-strike, and day of defeat. The reason why they are all still so popular today is because of the netcode (and the ability to hit moving objects with a sniper rifle successfully (yes on cable too)).

06-20-2003, 11:19 PM
Thx Volcan:

1) 1.3 server crash bug
2) Frag/ladder bug
3) Linux/Stand alone server support
4) Anything else that was promised and not yet delivered.
5) Game balance issues perhaps...
6) Prepare for a hearty slap on the back and "well done!" from the community.

06-20-2003, 11:23 PM
I know you said just 1 question, so i will limit it to 1 response then explain that response...

My response is... THE GAME IS JUNK!

The explaination - THE GAME IS JUNK BECAUSE OF...

1. FPS issues.

2. Net code issues

3. the implied and sometimes promised reality isn't there.

4. The recoil for weapons is too un-realistic - some weapons you fire just a couple of rounds and your staring at the ceiling just about.

5. The blooming reticule is the stupidest thing I have every seen in my life - there is no real scope, or sighting mechanism or system in the world that has a blooming reticule (thus another no realism issue)

6. stealthy professional teams do not use hard soles on their foot gear and expect to remain stealthy. When your walking around in a building it sounds like a heard of elephants. Another realism issue.

7. No SDK - dont you guys understand that you got one of the hotest gaming engines in the world that is used by and loved by literally millions and that one of the things that makes it so attractive is the ability to mod it. people just dont buy UT engine based games because of the game, thousands upon thousands buy UT based engine games because of the modding ability so that they can create new and interesting things with it. But what do you guys do - you take it and cripple it and on top of that, you use it to create a BETA version of a game that you sale to unsuspecting customers that works like crap.

8. Gheesh! I give up, I probably got about a couple hundred issues but i'm tired of not getting any response and tired of a company that treats its customers like crap. You managed to take one of the finest gaming engines in the world and mis shape it into something that is a piece of garbage. I dont know how people can screw up so badly, does your company offer like training sessions on "How to really screw up a game" or what?

9. you release patches that really do not do anything or only make the game worse than it already is, for example the latest 1.3 patch. Dont you guys test anything before you release it? Or do you just put every thing you come up with in a big blender and what comes out you sell?

You come in here asking for the single most important thing, well there isn't a single most important thing, ITS THE WHOLE FRIGGIN GAME - GOT THAT! We already paid you to deliver what you promised, you sold it and we bought it, and it dont work like its supposed to. You unleashed a BETA on us, and now you expect us to tell you whats wrong with it? Your the experts, your the coders, your the company, we paid you to know your jobs. So now you come in here and ask us whats wrong? wev'e been telling you and your not listening. Now you come in here with a placating, condensending attitude, acting like you want to help fix it? Dont you understand yet? We already paid you to fix it. You want us to do your jobs for you? Ok then, send me a check and i'll be glad to work for you. But if your not going to send out checks for us to work for you, then you do the work and fix it. I gurantee you that if you give me a proper SDK, that I will have this game humming along - smooth as silk - within a week, I gurantee you that I will solve the FPS issues, and the net code problems, and all the rest, and you've spent how long just getting to the point of asking "whats wrong?", DUHHHHHHH! Gheesh! give me a break!

So all this talk, all the complaints, all the responses, basically all the crap, and you already have our money, so fix the damn thing.

ya know what - some states have a special term for companies like yours - its called "Class action law suit".

i think the most obvious problem is overall performance, mainly the FPS problems.

most games through each patch get optimized, to the point where they can run on a wide variety of machines (i.e. bf1942 now).

we all would like to see a real performance patch, not just an increase in fps during firefights.

thanks, i think this was a great idea to sort out the biggest problems.

Will the SDK be released BEFORE, WITH, or AFTER Athena Sword? Will native source be released as well?

06-21-2003, 01:08 AM
Well, aside from all the mentioned Bugs in here (and they are all valid and really need to be adressed) I would like to see if possible some Server Admin like in Rogue Spear, means you don't have to restart a Server just because you changed maps or Gameplay or whatever.

The way it is now, is quite annoying, especially if you are happy to finally have say 8 people you want to play with on the server and then you need to change a map and half of them have trouble getting back into the Server just because you had to restart server.

The sound of enemy footsteps, when they are running, drops off at too short a distance. This, along with the C-mags, makes the game too run-and-gun because you can't use your ears to hear the stampede until it is too late. The run-and-gunners just barrel through the map, firing before they turn a corner, and only their flying bullets or a HBS give them away. On the other hand, I hear footsteps when I shouldn't too, like when they are behind one or two solid walls.

BTW, my soundcard is a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz with 5.1 Altec Lansing speakers.

Fix the netcode. Games like that should be easily playable with ping 300 and less.

Option to Disable/Enable Bobbing while moving.

Hear, Run, Fire, that is all the game now.

The time someone gets injured the only penalty shouldn't be only the "aouch" sound, but a random direction of the reticule so that guns with weak bullets (SMG) should have an advantage in close quarter firefights.

Here the major issues with this game as I see it:

1) Netcode
2) FPS
3) Bugs that have remained since the demo (frag bug, ladder bug, etc)
4) Cheating (being taken care of, thank you)
5) Lack of customer support
6) Lack of actual public beta testing of patches and the like since the demo

Any plans at all to tweak the gameplay ? IE...silenced weapons and of course....fps issues.

#1 issue: Trigger Lag...servers that ping over 70 in the server list cause a delay of up to 1/2 second between pressing the fire button and gun actually shooting.

Servers < 70 ping in server list the trigger lag isn't as bad, but it is still there. That gun needs to be as responsive as it is in other FPS games...when you click the fire button, the gun shoots - simple as that.

Trigger Lag does not happen in single player or locally hosted LAN servers.

My Question:

Will the problems with the Radeon 7500 series (ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500 64MB DDR is what I have) be fixed?

The problems are:
1. No Blood Pools
2. No Blood Streaks on the Walls
3. No Bulletholes
4. No Shadows Coming From the Operatives
5. Corrput Footprints in the Snow (they are either 10x big or are just black streaks)

above the obvious bugs/netcode issues, the main opne for me is the stale gameplay.

it just needs something changed, its too run n gun, it makes the gameplay 2 dimensional.

would it hurt to play with the gun attributes patch by patch to see what people think?

trigger lag/netcode

change the netcode, just like the programmers for quake made quakeworld with client side netcode. look how much that boosted the games life span and popularity for the game, not to mention sales! without it the online play life expectancy for this game is low. i know about 5 peopl off the top of my head who would buy ravenshield when they hear me tell them the trigger lag is gone.

My ONE biggest problem with R6 is the lock-up I get every time I'm hit. Hit by machine guns seems to be the worst. The freeze is for about 30-50 seconds. If you're only injured, once the freeze stops, you quickly get killed and it locks up again! The 1.3 patch seems to have decreased the freeze time a little.

Gigabyte 8INXP (Grantite Bay board)

Intel INF Installer 5.1
Intel Application Accelerator 2.3
GeForce4 Ti4200 64Mb RAM Det. 44.03
Audigy2 latest beta EAX drivers (DX sound acceleration set to standard)

I've tried all sorts of tweaks and variables but nothing gets rid of this lock-up. This system is perfectly stable with other programs e.g., America's Army

Are you going to investigate/fix this? It appears to be some sort of loop problem or possibly a poor garbage cleaning implementation for memory.

06-21-2003, 10:28 AM
1. FPS (This is the only game running the UT2K engine that my system has a problem with.)

2 NETCODE (This just basically sucks, and WHY is it tied in to the frame rate ?????? Any of the other UT2k games netcode has been fine, but this game is horribly different, laggy)

3. AI TEAMATES (This ELITE group can't even place a door breach charge and often stand in the doorway gettin shot up on a room breach)

This is a potentially great game dogged with some extreme annoyances, I would say that these are the main problems that need fixing ASAP (As well as 1.30)

Please fix em Dev's, or you expansion pack ain't gonna be worth zip. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

FPS. Nuff Said.

Hello Volkan,

I play only single player, so I my questions/problems might be not as representativ

1.instant kills should only possible at head and heart,

Don't misunderstand, I see no need for sophisticated modelling of wounds, firefigths of a special unit like "rainbow" shouldn't last longer than a few seconds
but because of this flesh wounds should be irrelevant or make the target shooting like crazy.

2. movement
rotating of view/aim and body is out of sync for the rainbows, also the tangos seam to turn to fast.

a realistic modelling of fast eye/head movement and slower rotating of body and weapon might be difficult to master for most players
but the limitation of mouse aiming when laying looks like a very good compromise, so why not use it also when standing?
so you could also modell the change of turning by weight

this would improve the use of tactics, like sneeking from behind or placing people to secure an area.

3. behavior

when you sneak close and then start shooting, tangos are to fast on recognizing where you are and to precise at shooting.
when you surprise them, they should "panic" for some seconds where they don't do "sniping"
those pistol guys are very annoying

this makes silencer useless in the game, because it makes no difference if they "know" that your here or not.

4. first person view player modell

why is there still no body for the player?
the external modells of people and weapons are very good and even animated (change of clip/weapon), why not use the external modell and put the viewpoint where the eyes are?
okey this might not work, I don't know,
but I realy wait to get some feet for my men /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

at the moment heavy equipment is to strong because spraying the target is to effective and weight don't give you real disadvantages.
also the use of tactics and silencers could be stronger by adding a surprise factor.

hope this gets to the developers, I like rainbow six, its much fun to play and it would be great if this thinks could be improved

I'm going to try not to state whats already been stated like oh 500 times...

1) An Active anti-cheating community

2) Fix sniper rifles make them accurate...
(don't like it when my rets in I fire they don't die)
(I love it when my ret is out and I fire and I nail them)
Or in short term balance the guns
Shotguns- deadly at close range
SMGs- Good at close range
Assault Rifles- Good at close and long range
Sniper Rifles- Deadly at long range
Light Machine Guns- Spray and pray guns :-) [don't touch LMGS perfect as is]

06-21-2003, 05:54 PM
Fix the FPS problems!!!
Why do I have to get 10-20 FPS on a relatively good pc?!?

06-21-2003, 05:58 PM
Gun accuracy - close range (3 metres) strafing and shooting = no chance of hitting and moving with SMGS = bad accuracy. Also weapon dmg (draganov takes 1/2 health off person - same as falling 3 metres!!!!!!!!!)
& also faster nade/weapon switches + weapon sway (for non-sniper rifles) & of course the problem when people SUDDENLY appear round corners and shoot you before you even see them.

There are important bug issues but right now I don't see anything bigger than the NetCode.

OK, I am not going to say things that have already been said ...

Now, to put it simply Ubi this game has big problems; it seems to me that you either tried to hard to follow in the footsteps of the other R6 games and make it wonderful and/or tried to hard to make it a "fun" game for everyone, including making wonderful graphics - it seems at the expense of game play.

You really have two types of problems:

One is that individual people are going to have vastly different views on exactly what this game should be like and there is no way you can make a game that will make them all happy. To this end I personally think that the R6 series has been defined by reality which is something that in this title has been sacrificed on the alter of "fun" (for example C-mags, attachments, weapon balance, object and wall penetration). These are however my personal opinions and I know that you are under no obligation to make a game for ME; as I know that many other people have view points that are drastically different that mine. The answer to this is quite simple and right under your nose - release the SDK! If people can make their own small or large tweaks to the game so that they like it they will stop bugging you about it.

Second the game play needs work, you need to take a step back from were your are right now and take an objective look at this game. Firstly before you should even think about anti-cheating or small optimization you should have every one of your paying customers able to at least get the game to work. Once you have accomplished this you can deal with making the game work well. Game play needs to be smoothed out and all the problems that we have been seeing since day one need to be addressed. Here it is imperative that you listen to the people that you made the game for, they will spot MANY more problems then you ever will, so take our advice to heart, try and find out what most people want in the game (this can be hard, but if the Devs talked and listened to the fans it should not be a problem); once you know what the people want implement it quickly and well without introducing any new bugs to the game. I know these are high standards to meet, and the things I suggest here can be extremely hard to accomplish but if you can you will go from the universal evil behind all of this game's faults to the maker of one of the best FPS ever.

Know I don't know if this is exactly what you wanted on this forum or not, it really isen't a question or single gripe; but since no one really has just ONE question or gripe, I feel that the above message is a rather accurate assessment of the way people feel (although I do not read these forums much, I am a cross-over from Aggression). Ubi even if you delete this post please read it and take it to heart and you will find yourself with a much better game.

A proper bug report x2:

Ever since 1.3, whenever I turn night vision on (no matter my resolution or detail level) I drop to about 10fps (from 80fps which is where my video card maxs out because I keep vsync enabled)

Also ever since the demo, in Windows XP (not 2000), my monitor flickers for about 20 seconds every time I try and change the res (or the first time that I play the game ) until it finally stops. Normally when it stops my resolution is at 640*480, not matter what other refresh rates I try or resolutions it still does this, to fix it I have to keep going to the options screen and pressing "return" until it works... this can take up to 10 minutes sometimes. I have tried different video card drivers, DirectX versions and monitors drivers (currently using the pnp drivers) to no prevail. This is a really annoying bug and it does not happen in any other games or applications (including UT2003, Postal ... etc).

System specs are:
P4 2.4 533
9500 pro
Windows XP & 2000

Why do people keep asking for gameplay features? UBI will not add a single feature like that and these posts only consume space that should be addressing the bugs in this game. The only time we'll see a gameplay add-on/feature is in an expansion pack release or when the SDK is released and someone makes new mods.

This whole thread is lame to begin with considering that there are several really good questions that the devs need to answer, not just one. What's worse, unless the devs are complete ******s(I'm sure their not), than they already know all the important issues that need to be fixed. Why come here and ask?

The irony here is that we now need a patch to fix a patch. A chimpanzee could beta test a patch better than UBI has done with RvS patches/final retail! Retail v1.0 comes out and we get a CD-Key error = poor beta testing. Patch v1.3 does nothing for performance, but crashes servers when a certain client has X program running = poor beta testing.

I don't want lip service and I don't want to be asked for ONE question to ask the devs, but rather would like to see the devs do something about all the bugs they already now about and the new ones they've created. I personally think that UBI has one maybe two devs working on bugs, which is not nearly enough to handle the scope of RvS' current state.

I have two:

Ditch the CD Authentication schema - your entire 1.1 patch was wasted on it, and it is still unwieldy at best.

Release the SDK - with the limited dev hours that you have to fix bugs, it would be advisable to get the community working on mods that will keep people interested in playing the game. Who knows, we may even be able to fix some of the problems with the game...

I'm fairly sure that this CAN be done, as you can set pretty much anything to allow penatration, but the thing is, whenever you make something so that you can penatrate it, the game is not as smooth.

06-24-2003, 06:36 AM
The reason we can't have bullet penetration on as many objects as we want is because the way the Unreal Engine works, for every bullet that passes through a static mesh, it does ray-tracing calculations -- or can/would in this case -- But the problem is, as I understand it, is that the ray-trace lines wouldn't stop and go off into infinity, even outside the map itself.

This is why there isn't any penetration in any Unreal Engine game except Tactical Ops -- Based on the older Unreal Tournament Engine -- And even that option is rarely implemented for online play because of the fact the game slows way down because of the calculations that have to be done (imagine 32 players with hundreds of rounds having to be accounted for).

I'm not a Modder or coder, but this is what I have read and if I am wrong, someone please correct me.

06-24-2003, 07:28 AM
While I think the netcode is relatively poor, and I'd love to see the SDK released so people could make the game into what they feel it should be and we can pick and choose what we consider to be realistic..

The basic bugs in the game need to be addressed. Getting stuck in ladders, having a grenade get stuck in your hand, or even getting stuck with a breaching charge (seen it happen), things like that. We've known about them for a very long time, and we haven't seen any obvious attempt to address them. If you guys ARE working on them, but for some reason they're proving to be difficult to fix I'd at least appreciate a heads up that you ARE working on them. So far we're seeing patches released that address side issues at best, or no issue other than copy protection (like 1.2). I do appreciate the ready bug being fixed, but that's one of many that need to be dealt with.
I don't really care about PunkBuster. A lot of the community does, and I don't pretend to speak for them.. but I think you need to make the core of the game work without bugs before you go about adding things on, and ESPECIALLY before you release an expansion disc.

I'll repeat what I said about the SDK though.. giving the player community the tools to modify the game as they see fit would fix a lot of your problems. Even if you were going to try to modify the game to play like people feel it should, you can't please everyone, there are too many different ways the game could be done. So let THEM do it, and you can focus on bug fixing and hopefully netcode tweaking.

Could we please have BIGGER RUNNING RETICLES ???

Too much 'run n spray' right now (specially with the Cmags).
The running rets should be a lot bigger but close faster.
This game is suppoused to be a tactical simulator right?
Even Mr.Mike Grasso says that the running accuracy is
exagerrated. No one can shoot that accurately while running

1. Friendly AI are worthless at shooting while the enemy is brutally accurate.

2. Grenade Switch bug. (Which probably is a netcode thingie as I never ever experienced it in single player)

3. Ballistics - Realism. Barrellength, bullet weight, bullet diameter and muzzle velocity should determine damage, not coolnessfactor of the weapons.

(A note to CMK_ARKADI: The 556er is not so bad that it in general takes several shots to incapacitate a hostile. The issue US troops has had with it is in SHORT barrel weapons such as the M4. The bullet does not fragment in ranges over 50meters, while it often do that up to 200m with an M16. In this game you generally need 2-3 556ers to kill an opponent, UNLESS you hit in the head or center of mass, then people mostly go down at once. As in real life.)

If it's hit a man's head, it will be blow to a part! howabout make the charter to be able to blast to a picse of bloody jam? if they've blasted by the gas can? it's no fun if the man's head is still here when they hit by a .50cal!

If you work on complete the following you will win everyone over and be loved for once.

First off you have to improve the framerate and lagtimes. Make it so you can pick up and drop weapons like in AAO. Make it so you can have at least 2 accesories for your weapons. Release an SDK or a fully modified version of unrealed with unlimited capabilities. The ability to mod will be the only thing brining more people into this game for years to come. Take away that BS where rave shield has to connect to ubi. Make it so you can do true IP to IP connections. Complete all of these tasks and strap punkbuster on the game and you will have done a wonderful job. Sounds pretty easy but will ya do it??

Here's my single most important question then:

Why does Ubi Soft feel that the most effective means of communication is one way? You hear plenty from the community, while we hear little to nothing from you.

This thread is just one more instance of Ubi Soft's SOP for communication.

The single player game.
The planning of the R6 series is what set this game apart. Right now the single player game is simply, not fun.

You don't get rewarded for good planning since your AI team mates can't shoot.
My snipers lying prone in the dark are getting shot by tangos with pistols from 150 ft (the tango is shooting from where my sniper is aiming).
ROE's don't work, so this part of planning is pointless.

What happened to the snipe, cover, defend commands? I miss these. These commands were in previous versions, why take them out?

Please implement bullet holes in tangos and friendlies. This isn't a childish gore thing. I don't care about extra blood. I would just like to know how good my aim was. In RS we could run up to a downed man and see how well our shot was placed.

The tangos can see me in the dark without night vision. Why?

What happened to the replay feature? It's nearly impossible to refine your plans without the replay feature to see what happened.

Previous versions of R6 allowed you to toggle in and out of observer mode. This feature is gone.

I truly hope that these issues are addressed. I was so excited when this game was announced. It's prettier than previous versions but in it's current state, it's taken a step backwards in gameplay. I continued playing RS up until RVS was released because it was just fun; planning, replay, bullet holes, gameplay.

Gameplay and functional graphics will go further than simply pretty graphics.

make ALL weapons more lethal. a .50 cal will take anything down with 1 shot, not 3 like this game. Improve framerates NOW.

Fix the old ladder bug, the grenade bug, the "stuck in spectator mode" bug in survival games.

Restrict C-MAGS to those guns that can use them in real life.

Thanks! :-)

when will you add a demoplay feature?

06-26-2003, 07:18 PM
Silencers take off less damage than before, multiple weapons attachments (tat-clan moding) but with limitations, slower speed when scoped, health more realistic (being shot in the arm will not make you limp, but reticule is worse), gas masks should not take up a slot in the other items slots, but could lower vision and hearing. Thats all I could think of for now.

Why, even when I play on my regular server with a 30-80ms ping, do I still sometimes have enemies "pop up" in rooms sometimes as much as a half-second after I enter the room?
I have also noticed that, sometimes, enemies around corners don't seem to show up until some arbitrary "midpoint" is visible, at which point all of the enemy which should be visible will "pop up". When this happens, I'll often see the enemy's weapon floating in the air at their last location. I've also noticed this effect significantly while ghosting.
Suggestion: "AI activation at a set proximity to any player", in addition to whatever routines you're already using to "activate" the AI.

06-27-2003, 03:29 AM
Trigger lag without a doubt - can't hit anyone on a server with pings > 100ms... really frustrating

Ah, the sublime pleasure of seeing an enemy convulse in shock and collapse, the crimson spray offering a welcome confirmation of a well-placed shot.

I noticed a new bug? I lay down take a sniping position to shoot. Guy moves just enough that you now have to glance over to the left or right to get enemy in sight again. If I have to glance right I hit the glance right key but instead of glancing right it glances left. The same is true for hitting the left glance key but instead it glances right. This I've noticed happens about 40% of the time I take up this position.

Can u change voteing to just cover the particular team. I was on a server where a guy tkd the whole team but me and another, and I had to tk him 4 he got us. Then the host or admin wouldnt kick him out and there werent enuf votes for us to remove him, so we just quit the server. Why should 1 person get to monopolize the rounds that way?
Also I think there should be an aspect added to the next patch so that everyone knows if u do this, ( like tkin ), no matter where u go u gonna get the consequenses, (like gettin booted) automatically, or actually being voted out. Hope this makes sense.

The server-side netcode needs to be KEPT, but it needs SERIOUS optimization. I am convinced that along with the "trigger lag" problem (ie very unstable latencies), many of the bugs that occur in MP play only are a result of the unoptimized and buggy netcode still present in Raven Shield v1.3.

From least important to most important:

* The sounds while "sneaking" up or down stairs are way too loud.
* demoplay?
* Trigger lag(hope you really do have it fixed, that would rock).
* SDK - you guys know the only reason Half-Life is the best-selling game out there is because they made it so mod-friendly. Plus it would allow all those complainers out there to fix their own problems. ;-)

COOp Mode Fix

Dev's, I would like to see some changes in the single player/coop mode. I play COOP on line very often and I like this mode because it's really great to have a good group of players acting together as a team. Also, the PvP modes have far too many cheaters at the present time.

So, the problem with coop is that the tango placement is far too predictable. There needs to be more randomness and perhaps more movement on the part of the tangos. Many of the coop matches have become an issue of memorizing where they are and then just taking them out. The game would have far more replayability if the tangos could be more random and if the tangos could move more rather than staying in one spot and waiting to be killed.

Also, I've seen many people posting about the netcode. Well, I have a cable connection and I find the netcode to be very good. Now perhaps this is not the case for 56k-er's and some ADSL users. However, I think that someone should speak up in the dev's defence that in some cases it does work very well. I typically connect with a ping of 95 or better.

07-01-2003, 07:36 PM
Maybe you could make RvS kind of like Rogue Spear or Urban Ops.. What I mean by this is for the map list in game. When you select a game mode to play.. ONLY THE MAPS playable in that mode will show up. It's getting insame with all the maps coming out and server crashes constantly because certain maps only work in certain modes. It would be nice to know exactly which mapa are playable in which mode. Honestly though... how many people remember which map is playable in which mode with about 150 maps out now for RvS. I can't understand why the map mode sorting wouldn't have been added to begin with.

Seems like UBI released a "BETA" version of RvS with all the bugs and problems with game. Was game released early to quiet the hype and not completely checked out? Funny how 30 minutes after the latest patch release the entire RvS community could point out the problems with it.... yet the people who made it couldn't see these problems. Hmmmm.... Just wanted to ad my two cents.. RvS is beginning to be a huge dissappointment after paying 50 bucks for game.

Single Most Important Issue:

More realistic Reticle behavior. Refer to Pope's thread.

Second Single Most Important Issue:

More realistic Movement speeds incorporating realistic inertia.

The most important issue is the dodgy netcode, it just feels a bit rough....

Second most important issue, have it so that people can't just run and gun, (make reticule larger while running with zoom)

Third most important issue, nade problems.

i am having no problems with fps

My question:

Whatever happend to the other ingame orders?. Open door, Frag room, Flashbang room, clear, etc. are a nice improvement over Rogue Spear, but you left out some of the most fun controls in Rvs, i.e. INGAME Snipe and Breach controls, along with the ingame "speed" control (i.e. Blitz, Normal, and Cautious) and to some extent the ROE toggle. I switch in the game to Assualt to Recon (which by definition is fire if fired upon) and tried to sneak around. My teammates fired everywhere and no one fired on us. Same with Infiltrate. My team does NOT take out their silenced pistols. What happend?

My questions would also be why don't you spend more time on trying to make the guns more accurate in their looks, their sounds more real, and the stats like their real-life counterparts? Oh yeah, why are suppressed weapons so weak that almost no one uses them in MP, plus the supressed weapons should be ALOT quieter, I can hear them across the map?

The m249 model looks like you did a half-*** job on it. It looks like a grey render more than the complete black gun with a green box for the bullets. Please see america's army for a correct m249 model.

The sound on some guns is horrible such as the m4, m14, g3a3, and ak47 just to name a few. Why don't you add more realistic sounds.

The stats on some guns are really wrong. The m4 should be way more stable as should the m16. The m4's RoF should be around 750-850, not around 600 like you have it in this game.

Ok, didn't take the time to read thru the 9 pages but this is what I'd like to see.

1) New Netcode above all else
2) Punkbuster
3) The ability to climb objects like in Rogue Spear
4) Officially converted and FREE maps from the first R6 games - and I mean FREE, you guys jerked us around on this so hey... be nice and give us a butt load of maps from Rainbow, Eagle, Rogue, Urban, and even Covert.
5) A choice on where to play the Game... Forcing us to play on Ubisoft is way out of line... you got your money from our purchase and some of us prefer MSN.

Thanks for passin these on Volkan.

When and if the Scope bug will be fixed. (Where your riticule stays the same between normal zoom and scope zoom, which makes your riticule almost twice as small when zoomed. This is the primary cause and reason of the Run and Gun ability with scoped weapons)

Thanks for the chance to post our questions

1. ...the rainbows ever be able to slipe down from windows/roofs using ropes, like in the intro?
2. ...the netcode be improved?
3. ...you release an SDK sooner or later?
4. ...you be able to arrest people during all gametypes in multiplayer?
5. ...the armpatches be fixed? They are showing once in a while, but becomes black when changing map e.g.
6. ...a knife ever be added?
7. ...teargas ever act as real teargas would(it would _fill_ a room, not just make a pathetic cloud)?
8. ...you be able to kick a granade away(I know I would if a frag came rolling lol)?

I guess that's about it

Plus in real life the effect of teargas will not cease in seconds, when you leave the area. It would take several minutes (or even hours) depending on the type of gas used. But perhaps it's not a good idea to make the effect so realistic in the game. Anyway, I agreed what comes to the size of the "cloud"...

this is a game..... teargas would be way 2 effective if it would fill a whole room, and make u blind for 20 minutes

07-26-2003, 11:06 AM
Sure it would. But maybe the duration should be little more longer, like one minute, 'cos I think now teargas is quite useless in multiplayer..

Hehe... When I was about 10, me and my buddy sprayed around with my sisters parfumes. And what do you know, we emptyed a half bottle of teargas, not on porpuse ofcours. We were like, aaaaaarghh my eyes, my eyes!! We ran totally blind(left the area as you say) to the kitchen where we filled our eyes with water and afterwards a wet towel. We were "crying"/"screamin" in about 30 mins. We totally paniced. Then we had to pay my sister $30 for using it :|

This game is awsome! My only gripe is that everytime I play it I crash to desktop with some sort of general protection fault error or my system simply reboots during gametime...As I have scanned these forums (for days...) there has not been one solution to anybodys GPF errors at all that have worked.. I tried them all myself to no avail...
When it does play though man oh man! This game is sweet! My fps are excellent, the graphics do rock! The weapons are spot on, etc, etc... If it would just stop crashing...
