View Full Version : Announcing the grand opening of Gibbageart.com!

Finally! I have my own domain!!! I have been waiting for this for a long time. I took a portion of the donated money and registerd www.gibbageart.com (http://www.gibbageart.com). I also now have my own mail address of gibbage@gibbageart.com. Thats a hole lot of gibbage!!! Anyways, to celibrate my new domain, I added a new tutorial. Before you guys go "I dont do 3d, so I dont need to see it", think again. In that tutorial is a hint of my next project. I have a feeling a few people will be really excited, and a few Luftwhiners a little bummed. I hope to complete the new project with the P-38. As for the P-38, the external is done. I got it down to 3650 pollygons and just enough for Oleg to accept it. Not its time for Snorri to work his splended magic!!!! I hope to have some screen shots of it soon. Maybe next week.

Also, consider this my Friday update. Im extreamly busy this week. Moving to the new domain took my day away.

One last thing. For my fellow modelers. I am thinking of putting up a temporary message board for us till IL2 Center is fixed, or we get our new home at Netwings.org. What do you think? Should I bother?

http://www.gibbageart.com

P.S. For you mods. This is IL2 Related. Nearly 99% of my web page is about IL2, and the work I do for it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

P.S.S. Who gets to be the first one to send gibbage@gibbageart.com an E-mail? Winner gets something. I dont know what. I will think of something cool. Maybe his name IN the toilet of the PBY? Like below the waterline or something. I wonder if they had those blue toilet cubes in WWII? I love those things.

Your humble Gibbage

I am now accepting donations to help get the PBY flyable.

Thats odd. I have had the domain for about 1 week operational. I was just fighting with the admin on how to make it work.

good for you Gibbage.

There's a fair head of steam gathering for VVS/LW twin engined planes so head on over to the thread marked Hs129.

I'd happily wedge you a few quid to see something like a flyable Ju88, Hs129, Bf110 (variants and successors) Pe2, and that really good Tupelov plane, but can't remember its number.

Guys, Gib hasn't got the "void" skin yet: Snorri has to make a template and then he can send it to you... patience.

OK. First you guys said the angle is wrong, and the pilot should be higher. Then you were proven wrong by the blueprints that the pilot cant go any higher. Then you said the dash should be lower. Again, proven wrong. Then you said the FW-190 flew nose down. Again, proven wrong. Then you said the Revi should be higher! Proven wrong by photo's of the Revi nearly touching the glass. Now its refraction? There is no stopping you guys. I agree that refraction would play some part, but not much. Maybe a few extra pixels at most. Besides, you cant calculate refraction in 3D!!!! In 3DS, it would take about 5 mins per frame. There is no stopping you guys is there? No ammount of proof or evidance will keep you from your goal. Not even history and facts and detour your runaway train. Truly sad.

It would be paying for research materials on the PBY and things like the new domain. I sent out a news letter to all that donated saying that I spend some on the new domain, and I will soon spend some on memberships to two local air museums that have extensive aircraft liebrary's for research. Soon I will get a few books and I hope to get a PBY model. I got a P-80 model and it helped me out a lot. The only good PBY model is a 1/48 scale thats friggen HUGE!!!! I read some reviews and they said it had great interior detail. Also, if I get enough, I would like to get a new 3D card. My GeForce 3 is currently really choaking in 3D Studio's Max. The program I use to model. If you look at my WorkSpace Tutorial, you will see I use extreamly high res 3 view drawings. The one's in the tutorial at about 1400x1400 and are half size. The original drawings are in 3000x3000! I want to get an ATi Radeon 9500 (around just over 100$) with 128MB of DDR so I can use the high res drawings for construction.

Whatever money is left over will be used on beer and girls. Wait. I dont drink and im married. Hummm. I guess I can go watch a movie. Lots of good flicks out now.

P-63's are quite a big larger. Wings are totally differant, and so is the tail. P-63 is basically a P-39 with a laminar flow wing, more powerful engine, and a differant tail. Let me see if my books can show this.

Here we go.

(Gib, don't flame me for that like in the old days with Xanty)

P-63 must have some things in common with P-39 (where is that book when I need it?) as it evolved from it. So when it'll come to cockpit modeling would it be possible for you to re-use some parts from P-39 pit (e.g. gauges, labels, you-name-it...)??

Yes. Thats the only reason why I would do it. I hate doing cockpits. But Oleg said there are very few changes to be made. Same for the P-38. Im not doing the cockpit for that, so I can have it done in 1 month easy.

(As a disclaimer, I'm a rookie and fly La-5FN and don't give a damn about the FW, and don't want you to read this and get angry...)

(Can I somehow write in smaller font?)
The refraction is the issue, and it would be corrected by rising the gunsight, as the wiev doesn't get better when refracted but the guns shoot higher, without refraction the view is the same but guns shoot lower if modeled to shoot where they would with the refraction (As the view to shoot is moving with refraction, gunsight isn't)
(I dunno, and am not going to think it trough if moving the reticle image higher would somehow screw the guns/aircraft facing ratio or anything, but moving the reticle higher would give the advantage the lack of refraction takes away)

But seriosly(?), even I can't believe 3DS has THAT bad renderer, 5mins for simple raytracting? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
I tested my refraction-gunsight scenario in my belovew LW with raytracing + some global illumination and THEN in took me 5mins to render /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I hope nobody really gets angry from this, I just wanted to get that off my chest.
