Does anyone find the JU87 nearly impossible to shoot down?

I was flying VOW last night and attacked a Stuka, in the battle that followed I hit it with no less than 5 or 6 dealy cannon shots in a P39.

don't get me wrong this ain't a whinge, but correct me if i'm wrong, 1 well placed cannon round from the P39 can remove the wing of a JU88, so how is it that this stuka managed to keep flying after losing the entire tail fin and both aerlerons, one of its wheels and the wings resembling more like a pepperpot!

It was flying at almost vertical angles at some points at less than 200kmh, WTF?

Oleg I believe the JU87 is slightly overmodelled!

I would have more luck breaking into a bank vault with my head!

Someone must know the JU87's weak spots.

Hm, interesting question. Some planes are a little weird. On several occasions I clipped the whole wing from a Ju 52, and several minutes later it was till airborn, flying at the same altitude. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Hmm..never had an issue with that. My Hurri pops them really fast.

Hmm, was the Stuka AI piloted, they can fly pretty much anything that still has the wings and propeller attached to it... usually a P39 vs. few Stukas is a complete turkey shoot.

The tail section is probably the weakest part of Stuka, very often online I lose both my rudder and my elevator or even the whole tail part to the very first bursts of MG fire.

I haven't had any particular problems with Stukas. They're a bit like Paris Hilton: They go down pretty well ...

Hm, I think you gave the answer yourself. Your 37mm rounds hit the tail fin, the ailerons and a wheel. If this is true, you basically wasted 4 or even 5 hits. A hit to a control surface will hardly damage the attached bit of wing or fuselage. A shortcoming in the damage model.

The Stuka was a very tough bird, so a wing in a Stuka just could survive a 37mm hit with a bigger portion of luck I think. There is enough wing surface and if the spars are not damaged, it will be fine.

I have no problems shooting down Stukas with my Yak-1 in my carreer. The ShVAK cannon will rip of wings or shred the fuselage rather quickly.
Imho the Stuka is not worse than any other plane in FB, all suffer from DM inaccuracies which make them hard to kill.

Easy way to shoot out anything flying in this game is head-on shooting (pilot or engine).

However I find that the best way to bring down any kind of bomber is to fly on higher altitude and to get yourself in quick - dive (especially useful when flying hurry---that way you're avoiding bomber turrets---). I think that tactic is used by AI fighters too... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Only problem with this 2 tactic is in positioning... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Some good points here, particularly the last.

I would do this but: it dont seem to work.
I watched a program on tv about No1. RAF Hurricane squadron the other day, they featured the Stuka and how it was easy due to the greenhouse canopy to kill all of the crew in a few short bursts.

I agree totally with this tactic but have never manage to get a PK on a Stuka. They seemed to think this was the most effective way of disposing of them.

I am usually a good shot, but I have had nothing but trouble with JU87's since the start of FB.

For starters the rear gunner is far too accurate, and I often end up picking lead out of my teeth, sh*t I'd rather fight a 190 any day!

I fly the Stuka whenever it is available in a scripted server...and I have no trouble getting shot down in it at all.

I wish it was as tough as you think.

The only thing overmodeled is the accuracy of my AI gunners fire. Guy gets more kills than me! I'm so jealous I'm usually happy to take him with me when I get shot down...

Hmm, never really have a problem with them, but dont hit them from behind as that is pretty much wasting your ammo. But shooting them from above or below should work.

Oh, and rockets are very usefull as well. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The Stuka is a fairly tough bird until you try to fly one in a campaign, then it seems like it's paper mache. You can't survive a Stuka career very long. Might be different if the escorting AI was more effective or if there was an escort flight in the first place. That being said I find the Stuka downable, but never am able to get more than 2 or three on a ammo load in most planes. I can usually down more 111s and 88s than I can Stukas.

I tried downing one in a Hurri Mk1 after reading about some of the air battles over the Channel. I went as far as making the Stuka "empty" so it couldn't shoot back, and got well within 250 yards and gave the enemy the whole nine yards. I went to an external view of the Stuka and you could not even see bullet holes in it!? In the Battle of Britain they called it a "stuka party" because they were pretty easy to take down.

Interesting, I took down a veteran Stuka in QMB last night flying a P-51. Took three or four passes -- got it smoking then blew off the right wing. Had a lot tougher time having any real success against a JU-88 though.

Stuka's in FB are later versions of the ones used in BoB. One of the things they did was strengthen the airframe and add quite a bit more armor. The BoB ones were easy pickings and were removed from service.
