Don't worry, I-153 take-offs are a pain in the rear.

Here's what you do.

Taxi to the place where you want to take-off.
Go full throttle and hold the stick forward.
At 30 kmp/h, hit the breaks and say

"One Mississippi"

then let go of the brakes and center your stick.
Pull her up at 140 Kmp/h and raise your gear. If you stay level till the end of the runway, you should hit the I-153's top-speed before reaching the end.

If you fail, try it 5 more times.

I think you can already lift off at 70 or 80kph in the I153. In any case, a lot of fun this plane.

Just a question: You got a very nice server, but could you expand the planeset to something like Finnish brewsters I16's and I153's vs Russian I153's and I16's? On a fitting snowy map or something?

Would be fun i think. The crap plane battles. Pretty balanced as well. And you can have a bit of everything. BnZ and TnB and everything in between http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Dnmy,

I'm already planning to do just that. I'm going to add the P11 also, since it plane can really tear up an I-153 or I-16 if the pilot knows how to exploit its (only) advantage.

I can't wait to get AEP. New crap planes!

You mean the fact that it has no apparent damage model?

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The I 153 P can saw the wing off any plane in a matter of a second or so, but you can dump the entire ammo load into a P11 with no apparent effect. Complete nonsense. The P11 has been totally wrong from the time if it's introduction in IL2.

Your server Saturday was a riot BTW!!!

totally agreed... indeed a P-11 is maybe worst modelled plane in-game... like they make those from titanium http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
but MK108 do the job http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

Try a couple of FAB-100's! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I get to Missisi-BOOM! using your method BJ, though I'm not denying that it will work without external ordnance. I taxi steadily to the beginning of the runway, straighten up and ease the throttle on to about 90%, holding the brakes firmly on. The big radial takes a couple of second to get into its stride and then the pull starts to be felt. At that point I let off the brakes and, as the beast starts to roll, decrease the gas to around 75%. This is to enable me to get control of the torque effect with the rudder, and then ease the throttle on again to get the tailwheel off the ground and then I usually wind the prop pitch to 95% just before I rotate. I'm looking at 160+kph to get un-stuck with a max. load, and I always use 120% fuel mix until abt 1500 metres. On a long patrol I find a setting of 70% power, 70% prop pitch, 80% mix, and a half open rad will enable me to fly straight & level for a long time with virtually no stick input - and the engine sound is just gorgeous http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm up for any arena that matches the early planes against each other http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif In fact I have four very good coops that are solely based on I-153's (with a few AI U2's and a pair of Arado floatplanes) Give me a shout if you see me in HL...I'd be happy to run them for true fans of 30's technology. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I can't agree with this "crap planes" stuff, though - surely that's just ageism? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Heh heh http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Is this in response to my plaintive cries on your server the other night Baldie? I have to admit I still made a bit of a ballsup of the next two take offs, but I'll keep working in it. It looks quite comical, and gives the other players a laugh if nothing else.

By the way, anyone who hasn't had a go at fighterjerks, I strongly recommend it. I'd virtually never flown I-153s, but I've had great fun the couple of times I've flown on the server. It really forces you to learn a lot about stall-fighting. I found out very soon that turning tightly is just not enough. I reckon I've picked up a few hints I can transfer to more modern planes too... But if you want some awesome close in dogfights, look no further than this server.

Cheers Baldie, looking forward to lots more crap plane action after AEP comes out http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The P11s engine doesn't die during negative G manewbers http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I wont coment on the dm, since its a fm is just as flakey. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Stall fighting. That pretty much sums up FighterJerks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The method I use is to throttle up, full left aileron, when the Tchaika rolls left center the stick, and take off normally. This should keep the bombs/rockets off the ground.

Fighter Jerks is great, I will visit it again very soon. I missed the Chaikas though so i had to put up another server (F19_Server) until u came back with that planeset http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I have to practice my biplane dogfighting until the J8A comes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I don't do it this way, Baldie. Not that is something wrong with your T/O method. I throttle up 60% and wait a bit then full throttle.
BTW, I can do a half loop and land within second after T/O with I153.Is the most maneuvrable plane in the game after P11.

hit the break??? ouch, seems dangerous. I apply 70% throttle, push the trottle forward, adjust the rudder, when on 2 wheels i increase throttle and take off at approx 180 kph

FYI:

If carrying bombs, replace "One Mississippi" with "One".

Will do.

Does F19 have a regular time to play online, or do you all just play whenever you get the time?

Well Baldie, F19 VS consists of Scandinavians (+ Haddockhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif), we are at this point 10 individuals, reserves excluded. I wish we were more regulars, but all of us have a very busy schedule with work, famlily, school etc. This F19 is really a very "laid back" squadron - we play when we can.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I had a great time on Fighterjerks shooting down and getting shot down by the F19 folks when you had the B239s up... having rarely flown that AC, it was a learning (and fun) experience... guess I need to try the 153 now... S!~

That must be me. I'm easy to spot. Usually running away from a burning crater.

Tried the slight break on take-off and works surprisingly well. It helps lifting the tail and gaining some rudder control quickly. Nice http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
