... what did you do to the AI? They seem to actually have brains now! If they're low on E they won't just point their noses up at you and stall out. I also noticed that in QMB the better climbing planes seem to take advantage of that well before the merge!

Whatever you did, I LIKE!

Interesting, I never thought to check this. Thanks! I have noticed that AI Zeros now have a winning chance against AI I~153s. Hope you are right. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Can't wait for Gladiator and CR~42. !!!!!!!!!!!

My first flight in 1.2 was a P-51 vs a Zeke and I immediately noticed that the AI P-51 did not try to turn fight the zeke. I haven't had a lot of stick time with the AI but I'm hoping that it was a significant change and not just a fluke of randomization.

Just for the record, I really dig the new version.

Me too.. but you want to see a real difference? Load up a QMB and chose advantage, then select different matchups. My experience has shown that whenever I was in the E-plane the AI would try to keep the fight horizontal. On the other hand, if I chose a good angles plane that was relatively poor in E-terms, like a brewster, hurri or Polikarpov, the AI would climb like hell pre-engagement and, like you noted, avoid turn-fights if possible.

Then again, I can't identify anything tangible, it's just a feeling that the AI is fighting smarter, because I never flew against it that often.

Also, contrary to some recent claims, I *think* I see the AI as more "aggresive"--at least in the one sense that the fighters don't run level past enemy aircraft and ignore them during a dogfight. They are always involved in fighting. I am not talking about out of ammo either AI aircraft either.

I think the AI is getting better at the whole flying buisiness as FB marches forward.

I'm not so sure about their gunnery though..... having run a few large AI furballs in 1.21 there do seem to be some occasions where it goes for ridiculous shots and some where they plain miss.... ( I watched one Veteran FW balzing away at a Mustang's six at about 150m, and aiming their shots 15-20m over the plane... the Mustang was not doing any evasive manouvers either).

Then again... there have been issues here and there with the AI gunnery for ages now.... so its no big deal. Plus, I also appreciate how complex and difficult it must be to get the AI gunnery to act in a "realistic" manner, 100% of the time.

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Gunther Rall

One thing I'd like to see is a smartening up when your out of ammo. They can be manouver killed easily even if you've been out of ammo and haven't taken a shot at them. They ought to have a routine that figures out your no threat. A human would in about three seconds, these idiots will keep fighting defensive forever even if your out of ammo and never shoot. They respond to gunsight, never bullets.
