I recently was flying Cfs3, and i found out that there was a P-40 in my aircraft selection. I flew it and found out that it had 3 cannons on one side and 3 machine guns on the other.

Is this possible, was there such a model?

Are you sure they were cannons? All the P40's I've ever heard of have had .50's in the wings.

hmmm, if i remembered right. P40 isnt originaly in CFS3????

but, i do remember u could DL custom planes with custom arms, fortinstance the FW D13 with an insane amount of canon's.

i belive that the P40 u found is a custom plane.

When u get to HELL, Tell'em I'll sent u.....U'll get a group discount

I had dowloaded the P-40 off Sim Outhouse.

But if there had been such a model wouldn't the cannons run out of ammo first then once you fired the .50s it would cause a stall or yaw becuase off the offset recoil?

It's Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator. Need we discuss it further?

Anyway, whoever modelled that probably plays basketball.

Heh, I just remembered when I downloaded an italian fighter pack for CFS 1. It came with an MC.200, an MC.202, and an Re-2000. The funny thing is Italian planes were not known for their heavy armament, but these things each had 8 MG's in each wing and 4 20mm, 3 in the nose and one in the spinner, lol.

That's why I left the CFS community, too much modding going on, X-wings with 1000 20mm cannons and a top speed of 4000 knots. But, most of the time, people would make little adjustments wich where hard to notice but, gave them a boost in performance or firepower.

What's the fun in that?

The beauty of Il-2 is that you cannot mess with flight or damage models.

And NO, there was no such thing as a cannon armed P-40. There was a cannon armed P-51 but, that's another story.

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge,
ye shall be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be measured
to you again.

Placed 3rd, with team, in the official european championship Il-2/FB

there were no p-40's produced with cannons. there were a couple of varients that had .30 caliber mg's, but i cant find anything about p-40's having cannons.

Like they said there were not P-40s which had 20mm cannons. The P-40B/C did have high calibre gun in the uper decking of the nose, these gus were two .50 cal machine guns, while in each wing there were .30 cal machine guns.

As for CFS series. It's a killer single player game, but I would only fly it with people I knew and trusted in multiplayer.

Even if there was no model with cannons, as a "what-if" it would be interesting having a really heavy punch in a small area as the P-40 that i flew (in cfs3) the cannons were placed like .50s on a p-51.

it "sounds familiar".... i bought a book for my brother, and it detailed all sorts of lesser known, or maybe trail variants of WWII aircraft, and other was "unusual WWII aircraft". i can see if its pictured, or not. i am in no way saying it existed..but for some reason the topic of your thread made me go "i think? ive seen that"... ill try to get a look when i go by this weekend.

EDIT.... i noticed the post said cannons on one side, and MGs on the other... if it did exist i dont see it that way. but for some reason i do picture a P-40 with equal cannons on both sides... 2 per wing? like i said, ill go check it out.

This comes off of Joe Baugher's site.

P-40D

"The fuselage guns were deleted, and two 0.50-inch machine guns with new hydraulic chargers were installed in each wing. There were additional provisions in the wings for two 20-mm cannon, but these were never actually used."

P-40Q

"Four 0.5-inch machine guns were carried by the prototypes.....The proposed production models of the P-40Q were to have carried either six 0.50-inch machine guns or four 20-mm cannon, but the XP-40Q was still inferior to contemporary production Mustangs and Thunderbolts, and development was therefore abandoned."

So they certainly messed around a bit with the idea, but no there were never any P-40s with cannon.

And if they did, it wouldn't be unbalanced. No aircraft that I can think of has deliberately unblanced weapons like that. Even before the cannons ran out of ammunition, the recoil from the three twenty millimeters would outdo the recoil from the three fifties. Spin city!

Fw-190D-9, the late models of the P-40 had more than just two. Most had six fifties in the wings, as in IL-2.
