View Full Version : How to remove "Player killed"?

We are some guys finally arriving at full real. Only thing remaining is the kill message at the top left.
Messages at middle left ("Enemy aircraft destroyed " etc) - gone!
Speed bar - gone!
"Player killed" - still there...
I have tried to remove the correct entry in the i18n/hudmsg files. So the kill message goes away except for "---" which gives the game away...

In IL2 Manager there is a "Show text chat" toggle. Is this is? We still want the option to send text messages, in case TeamSpeak drops out etc.

Can it be done? A message-free game?

You need to open the "Conf.ini" file with notepad. Run down the file to the following:

[game]
NoSubTitles=0

Change the "0" to "1" so it reads:

NoSubTitles=1.

You can also eliminate the Hud in this way:

NoHudLog=1

I believe that will get rid of the message you're seeing (and the Hud, if you choose).

I run with all huds off. What I would like off is the connection bar at the right top of screen. Anybody know if it can be killed?

DONB3397 - Thanks!
SKY_BOSS - That would be nice too. Less clutter, better tracks/screenies. Anyone?

NoSubTitles=1

That didn`t do it I`m afraid...

This value determines the size and position of the chat box:

[chat]
region=(dx=0.69,dy=0.07,x=0.0,y=0.0)

Set dx and dy to zero to make it disappear.

zjulik,

Ok. I know what you are talking about. This is an old trick from IL-2, but I still use it today. The only thing to remember is that the host machine controls this setting. Only that machine needs to have the added command. Here is what to do:

Open your conf.ini file and add the following line:

[chat]
region=(dx=0.8105469,dy=0.17317708,x=0.0,y=0.0)
autoLogDetail=0 <------------------------------Add this line
adr0=ALL
msg1=War is Hell
adr1=MY_ARMY
msg2= boges

The number value at the end of the line determines the amount of messages displayed. The available values are:

0-No Messages
1-Some Messages
2-All Messages

You should obviously try '0'(zero). I tried it in one of my DF rooms a long time ago. It got so quiet (and a little strange and boring) that I went back to '1'. It gives the basic messages without that silly arcade stuff.

To get rid of the text chat, you can just resize the box with your mouse. Click on it, and from the bottom pull it all the way up until the text disappears. You can pull it back down when you want to see chat again.

Again, the chat box stays. I want to be able to send text messages to the lads. What I don`t want is the game-generated "Player Killed" message, written in white text at the very top left.

Reason: Flying full real, the guy behind you kills you. He gets the kill message (not the middle right one, but the top left one) and breaks away. If the message didn`t appear, he might continue shooting, follow the now dead pilot plane and perhaps crash himself. Which in my book would be more realistic.

I might try the autoLogDetail=0 tip. But then I would worry about the game not logging hits etc to the logfile...?

If you run the server, you can adjust using the autologdetail=0 or 1 on the server. If you don't run the server, ask the server admin to adjust the value for you, but that (autologdetail=) is how you do what you want done.

Oh no - the autoLogDetail=0 was there already.
Any other suggestions?

By the way, I have checked this during serving myself also, so it is not a question of a missing setting at somebody else`s rig...

While we`re here, is there a way to remove `Mission Success/ Failed` from the screen in offline Campaigns? I can get rid of everything else except that. I hate being told whether I succeeded or not by magical words in the air.

Anyone?

@zjulik

Some of us were probably a bit confused because in your first post you wrote that you want 'A message-free game'.

I also tested 'autoLogDetail=0' without success, still got the messages.

I recommend that you delete as many entries as possible from the i18n
etmessages.properties file. This means that you will still get the "---" whenever some message appears. But you won't know what "---" means because it might stand for any of the messages that were deleted. Also, as long as you don't chat, the appearance of a new "---" will even be invisible as it overwrites the old one. So in most cases you won't notice anything.

@Sky Boss: No, you can't - the connection bars are always there if you're online

@Sea Fire: No, you can't - the messages appear always.

I asked both questions many many times (even in original IL-2), and the answer was always "no".

I would really like to be able to switch off the connection bars, because on the LAN of our mini-squadron, we always have a fast connection (never expirienced Lag).

I wonder if just removing the i18n folder will work--probably server-side. Just back it up, of course.
