Two F16 jets collided 40 miles south of Terre Haute, Indiana today. One pilot is dead. The second ejected safely.

I used to live 30 seconds from this airbase. The Indiana National Airguard shares the Hulman Regional Airport on the east side of Terre Haute.

This base was formerly home to the F4 Phantom before it was retired. There was this little road that ran along the north end of the runway. You could park there and watch as the Falcons screamed overhead, mere feet from your head, as the hot-dog fighter jocks practiced touch-and-go landings.

But I really miss the roar of the Phantoms.

~SALUTE~!!!~ And God Speed~!!

Sorry to hear there were casualties...

Normally they don't collide - what happened - any link ?

Normally they crash - its a crappy plane - bad record - some years back one crashed in a town near here http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif lucky the plane crashed between two houses and no-one got hurt even (pilot survived too) - I live near Twente Airforce Base The Netherlands - 2 squads F16's there http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif 314th and 315th

ah well the F104 Starfighter was even worse...
but at least that was fast ...
