Very nice.

I only wish that we had some real WWI models for talented artists like this.

Sorry . . . the KOE issue really has me down http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Re: WWI

Some fans developed a mod patch that makes Red Baron 3D playable on Windows XP. Before, it would play but you'd lose the sound after the first game and have to re-install to get it back. There's a work-around to, which keeps the sound going but makes it impossible to save changes to your preferences.

Iknow, I know: RB3D is ancient and an arcade game compared to Il-2 as a flight sim, but sadly it's still the best WWI flight sim I know of, even though it's six years old.

Now that is sad.

I can find the link again if anybody wants it.

Also, is there a better WWI sim out there, somewhere? I think some game called "Knights over Europe" is supposed to come out next year.

Please don't say such things. KOE is as good as dead, and you may be jumped by a crazed mob of disappointed simmers. Me included.

Would love a decent WWI sim.... last I played was rowan's Flying Corps, I still have it, both original and deluxe versions but it won't work on XP http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif - Great Skins....

Thanks for the compliment, ASM 1.

Looked up some info after Jazzman 777's post. Yeah, the picture looks pretty bleak. Looks like KOE's distributor went down the drain and pulled the game down with it. The half-baked game is out there but the developers need some backing to finish it.

Somebody did a WWI mod of Combat Flight Simulator 2 a long, long time ago, I think, but it was pretty limited. Only a few planes.

Hmmm. There's some pretty decent biplanes in the patched version of Aces now, and a couple of them are flyable.

So do you online players have a place where you can fight among yourselves with antiques?

Re: Flying antiques

I haven't messed much with the biplanes in AEP, but tried them last night after looking on this thread.

They're a hoot. I set up a dogfight between me in a Gladiator and a biplane Fiat. It was a twisty turny carnival completely unlike running and gunning. It was more of a snake-fight than a dogfight.

I wouldn't recommend learning to dogfight on these planes. They'd teach all the wrong habits. Sure were a lot of fun, though. More than just a change of pace.
