I have to say that: the cockpit of the I-185 is simply beautiful, a new standard. The details are so crisp, a real piece of art!

Congrats to the modeller! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

definatly the best quality, it looks like a game that should be 2 years away.

Does anyone know who made it?

To say the truth, the I-185 cockpit looks as good like a Lomac one, with a much older game engine!!!

It's simply incredible and a real challenge also for the future cockpits of Pacific Fighters http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I do want that my Hellcat cockpit looks the same http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Done by Araks. The same man now models the Spitfire and cockpit for BoB. The way to model such nice looking pits without exceeding terribly the polygon count is modelling everything in high-poly (even several tens of thousands of polygons) and then render it to texture which is then put in place instead of the 3D parts. No one can notice it if you don't have dynamic lights in the game engine and fully movable head and it looks terribly good.

Cpt.Haddock did it same way with Gladiator pit. One time he told me his cockpit had over 50.000 polygons (the budget for the game is around 5.000 - 1/10th of it) before the texture rendering process.

No pic?!

This is how I felt when AEP came out and the Gladiator cockpit was what all the talk was about!

I am saving trying the I~185 for last, saving my most wanted for last (like I saved the Biplanes for last in AEP, had to toss coin for CR.42 or J8A). First I pedal bike to store tonight. I am really milking this thing, cos I want to see it sooo bad.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

That cockpit is sump'in else. Is it the textures that make such a difference? Two things though:

1. I wouldn't want to dogfight too much with full open cowl flaps.

2. The Gunsight toggle view command does almost nothing at all in this cockpit.

Still veeeerrry nice.

My gunsight view did not work in I~185.

The gunsight view does little to "zoom in" BUT what it does do is it keeps your sight (or rather, I think it is supposed to model your head) centred in your view. If you switch off the gunsight view, you will notice the sigt reticle slides around a lot. So the gunsight view DOES work, and to be honest, I think centring the sight is far more important than eliminating a good portion of your FOV!!!

Heh, I thought the same thing... Found out the gunsight view doesn't zoom you in at all, it just reduces head shake. Go into a sharp turn and keep toggling the sight to see http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

hi,
dear simers..please !
wake up:
an nice panel with state of the art finish does not mean that the virtual pilots view is correct and compare to height of real pilots eye of forward view.
Of course we are siming at a pc-monitor.
But this main 'view bug' 'gnomish camera view sytem' in game engine is more than overdue since first release of IL-2.

many new plane...few old fixes in general...

nice designed panels to create the illusion of a 'real view sim' to 'Igor and Jonny Joystic'
show business is all business ...

You know, maybe the cockpit modding method is why gunsight view does not work. Is this possible, or (more likely) am I making this up?

Anyone know what the lever with Maddox games did on the actual aircraft?

I mean, it could be the jettison whiner control http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Looks beautifull, but... useless.
Trimmer wheels are not animated like in some (?why some and not all?) models to begin with.

Has anyone noticed you get alot more fps with the i185 cockpit then with the bad looking p47 iar80 and mig3 cockpits. The spitfire cockpit seems to be a major fps killer too.

We will never get a quality pit like that for a US plane only the german, russian and japanese aircraft http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif All the cockpits for pf looked like the iar80 modeler http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Then luthiers excellent ki84 pit

Don't confuse gunsight zoom view with "toggle gunsight" or Shift-F1. Toggle gunsight is in fact not working for the I-185, because the entire reticle is not visible...no pilot would have sat that far back as the G's and shaking would move your head out of optimal position too easily (and does so in IL2). Toggling gunsight does not zoom you in at all, but rather, it does two things:

1. Move the pilot's head closer (physically) to the gunsight to increase the effective field of view through it (like how moving closer to a pinhole allows you to see greater angles through it).

2. Aligns the pilot's head with the gunsight so the virtual gunsight image (focused at effective infinity) is visible.

The argument that the cockpit model doesn't allow for this shouldn't be likely...it is a 3D model, and I doubt it was modelled with such polygon limitation that you'd see edges without faces just by a 4 inch viewpoint shift.
