View Full Version : Radio Communications still lacking

Hiya.

Radio communications is still the one area that I find Il*2:FB lacks in.

Here's an example: AI wingmen shooting at my target after my target is on fire. I can't tell them to find a valid target or break off the attack, NOW.

Here's another: AI wingmen breaking off to attack without my permission when I am flight leader. I have spent agonizing minutes carefully trailing bombers or unsuspecting fighters in order to secure advantages such as the Sun, altitude, and high speed, only to have my wingmen break off and make their own attacks independently, ruining my tactics. And to make it worse, I cannot radio them to get back into formation easily, or to have them attack on my command only. The command to 'rejoin' is there, but they often ignore it once they begin an attack vector. They shouldn't do this to begin with, but it should be remedied by my order to 'rejoin'. They ignore it most times.

Another example: Ai following a different course when I tell them to 'rejoin formation', when they DO obey. Sometimes, they like to fly to the next waypoint, even if it is in back of them. Shouldn't my command to 'rejoin' have a different effect than 'fly to next waypoint'?

I understand that some aspects of the AI might make this difficult, but I was hoping for at least an expanded choice of radio commands in ACE.

It seems to me that not enough players are comcentrating on this deficiency. To me, this is more fundamental and needs more immediate attention than typos in game, or arguments over roll rates of aircraft that nobody here has ever flown http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

have a pleasant day

Chuck,
What commands are you giving your wingie?

I have found that "Cover me" will result in a wing that will attack closeby targets of opportunity, but that "rejoin" effectively locks him to my tail. I am pretty sure a command of "rejoin" will also cause him to disengage ASAP. In fact I'm sure of it, as I have used it to prevent my wing from stealing "my" kills.

I haven't observed the "break" command to have any effect, maybe someone else has?

Clearly, you should be able to bark "What the hell! Stay in formation!" at them http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oh, I don't simply mean my wingman singular, I mean all three others in my flight break off without my permission, or fly to a waypoint, or ignore my commands. I guess I started talking about my wingman and then just kept on typing 'wingman' instead of 'my flight' http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

In my experience, 'rejoin' sometimes has little effect, especially if you are more than a couple hundred meters away. Even when I get a positive reply instead of 'cannot comply', the guy just does his own thing. I've watched him on the (horrors!) map.

YES!

Especially since the AI flight leaders tell me this all the time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
