So, those of you who have the add-on "Battle Over Europe" for FB/AEP - what's it like?

Some people seem to have had trouble in getting it to run, missions being deleted etc.

What about game play, is it worth the extra cash? Also the RAF update, which if i'm correct only works with AEP patched to 2.01?

Thanks for your comments. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I must say, I never had any problems with it on 2.01. Not tried it on 2.04 yet. The campaigns are quite good, although I've not had much "stick time" - dissertation got in the way! - I hope that is about to change http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Patched it with the RAF and Night skins updates, again no probs. Sorry I cant give more insight.....

I bought it and have hardly played it. Too many air starts on missions for my liking, and the Operation Overlord missions are a slide show (On Black Death I get an average of around 28 FPS, 7 at it's very lowest point, which only lasts for a couple of seconds, O.Overlord missions on BoE I get around 5 FPS, I can't even take off).

Hey Guys,

I have BOE and every patch including AOE and it runs perfectly. I actually prefer BOE as the campaigns are more varied and enjoyable. At the moment, I am flying the Spitfire for the RAF in the first stages of D-Day and it's great fun. There is also a campaign for the P-38.

You can't go wrong, trust me. Invest in BOE.

I have never had a problem with BOE, but I really don't play it that much. It runs well on my rig. Too many air starts is my only complaint.

Hi,

At default settings, BoE is a resource hog as there is a lot of ground activity on the Overlord campaign but you can 'turn this down' by modifying the conf.ini file.

I think BoE is okay for the ground attack missions but loses its way, in a major manner, as the war approaches Berlin for no other reason than FB not being too good with high altitude modelling required for B17 interception; this is where the FPS REALLY drops off for me.

Also, I wish I could install the RAF missions for it but I don't have an original CD because I had a freebee for working on the RAF voice pack........can anyone associated with Just Flight, who might just be reading this, help here?

Cheers,
Norris

'Bugs? What bugs?'
'AAA steals online kills, crash landing if good landing but out of fuel, muzzle flashes, kill given for planes that have landed OK, AI steals offline kills, gauges not working, Spitfire never overheats, FW190 view, P63 damage model, weird collision modelling...'
'Yeah, but look on the bright side - at least the 0.50s are fixed!'

I have it and have begun campaigns with the FW190, the P-51, and the Spitfire IXe.

Interesting campaigns, but I'm stuck at a point in each campaign where the whole flight (or 2) fails to return from the mission they're on due to wierd AI behaviour (flying straight and level in heavy AAA; flying into eachother 2 or 3 times in the mission; failing to exit landing pattern when bounced by fighters).

I hate to lose so many good pilots from the squadrons in one go, so I've kind of stopped playing.

This is an IL2 FB issue rather than a BoE issue, but it's frustrating all the same.

Be aware: Tried to install BoE and the RAF & Night Fighter Updates over AEP patched to v.2.01. The 'new' campaigns were there (night fighter, P-38, Spitfire, etc.), but the 'original' BoE campaigns were not. Had to uninstall IL2 FB completely and reinstall including BoE for it all to work.

Overall pretty pleased though. Biggest problems flying IL2 offline are:

AI behaviour and quality
Ranks and squadron positions
Just never quite the same immersion levels as EAW or Red Baron.

Thanks for your comments so far guys. The positives seem to outweigh the negatives, so I think I'm gonna go for the BoE add-on.

So far installed I have FB then AEP (Ver 2.0).

If next I install BoE then patch AEP to 2.01 then finally patch BoE with the RAF data...

That should do it shouldn't it...?

I have played it a good bit and agree with the comments about frame rates in the first American Campaign section.
The oddest thing I have seen is that I keep getting trains steaming around the countryside, up rivers and generally ev erywhere they shouldn't be. Starshoy says it is a "known bug" with FB, but it never seems to happen much outside of BoE? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

do get BOW - you will thank yourself for it. But the other guys have a major point; the FPS will make your machine suffer gladly unless you have a powerful PC. I upgraded to a P4 with x800Pro and one gig of RAM and it runs smooth as silk. I agree, a lot of money for a sim, but it's worth every penny.

The wierdest train bug in BoE I've seen so far was a enemy train steaming down my home field's taxi-way ;-). I shot it into smithereens...
