I figured I'd introduce myself.

As you know I go by the name DudeMiester, same as in the other forums I visit (http://forums.3drealms.com and www.doom3world.org (http://www.doom3world.org)). I'm from Canada near Toronto. Of course, I'm not going to get very specific here on the interweb, lol. I have great interest in real time computer graphics and physics, ray tracing and photon mapping, GPUs, CPUs and their archtectures, programming (C++), philosophy especially the nature of reality, and international politics. Since much of my interest lies in computers, I am taking computer engineering starting september at one of the best comp eng schools in North America (University of Waterloo). woo hoo!!

Also, for my amusing posts at the 3drealms forums in relation to their game Duke Nukem Forever I have recently been featured in a Something Awful article. I guess I'm famous or something.

Some site I know that may interest you:

The aforementioned forums
www.theinquirer.net (http://www.theinquirer.net) for tech news
www.t5kclan.com (http://www.t5kclan.com) my old UT2K3 clan
www.gamedev.net (http://www.gamedev.net) everything you want to know about gamedev and more
http://nehe.gamedev.net lots of tutorials on OpenGL programming
www.gametutorials.com (http://www.gametutorials.com) lots of general game dev tutorials
http://picard.ytmnd.com/ that song is HILARIOUS!
http://www.chip-architect.com/ CPU architecture review site, extremely detailed.
http://www.realstorm.de/ realtime raytracing is possible, and the quality is excellent.
http://triplebuffer.devmaster.net/misc/yannl.php Yann L is the greatest graphics guru I have ever seen, and this is a listing of some of his immense contributions and knowledge.
http://graphics.ucsd.edu/~henrik/ This guy's also a graphics guru
www.opengl.org (http://www.opengl.org) simply the #1 graphics API in the world, imho.

Enjoy!

Hiya Dude! Jade here in semi-sunny Florida. My son LOVES to read Something Awful.com and when he does...he's usually laughing so hard he can barely read the computer screen. Do you have a link to the article? I'd love to read it!

Welcome to the forums!

*will not discuss politics*

*What is the nature of Reality anyway...erm...isn't that a TV show*

Be careful though, after a review of my favorite forum at 3DRealms, there's a review of an incest forum. I really do mean incest, very disgusting and shocking. Interestingly enough, a number of the incest practictioners there are foster parents, scary thought.

Oh and as for my heh, sexual related, comments I was just joking around.

By nature of reality I was referrering to how I frequently discuss what makes something real. I think reality is arbitrary and subjective. For example, a computer simulation is just a real and reality, but it's real in a different way. Like the world of Everquest is a real place, not how say Amsterdam is real, but it's still a definite, existant and hence real place. So say if you were to create a computer simulation that contained some simplistic form of life, that would imply that said life is truely alive. It has interesting long-term consequences especailly in the realms of AI.
