Although Im an avid IL2 fan I do like the odd WW2 FPS. Recently someone introduced me to this game and WOW!! This is the most realistic FPS ever. I was so impressed by the screens and what people were saying on the forums that i went out and bought UT2004 just for this mod. Its still in beta so there are a few glitches but it is so immersive that you dont notice them ( when ur on a window ledge and u get shot, u fall out onto the pavement rag doll style, splat!!). Heres the link.......

Looks Ok. But I'm not into First Shooters to much. Can you have tank Battles though??

I've been following this game for years. Had some of my own quotes on the main site too, but when it was *finally* released it was a huge disappointment. While you didn't have crosshairs, you didn't need them, because there was no "free fire area". I have been able to kill 5 people in a row in excess of 500 yards with a PPsH41 firing from the hip. Hvae they improved any since then? Has a free fire area been added? Have they *finally* added machine-guns yet?

EDIT: Btw, it's NOT the most realistic mod. WHen I played it it was more or less just Unreal Tournament 2003 slowed down with crosshairs taken out and set in WWII. Infiltration is an old Unreal Tournament mod and I played that years ago. It is the most realistic game ever released (no joke).

I rather enjoyed it myself but it's a bit tricky to start with. I found myself just randomly dying from sniper fire, not fun.

It's not as good as DoD1.3b or 2.0, but better than the later versions of DoD I think.

I was *really* into DoD and looked with great anticipation on RO. I just recently got U2TK4 but the game won't even run. Dunno what the problem is either, I am way above the sys reqs on this one...

Awww c'mon Razz, its much better graphics wise and also with a good combination of confined and open spaced maps it only adds to the realism. You gotta admit, when you hit someone with the KAR @ 100m using ironsights its pretty bloddy rewarding http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

yes razz- please keep your head down and utilize cover. just like you would do if your life depended on it. i can somewhat understand why new guy in the fields IRL may not last long.

it does have a high curve on learning to survive, il2 does too. that is what intrigues me. darn it, i wish oleg had made it - who knows what he and team could do.....

Realistic FPS???

America's Army is it for me.

I would prefer a WWII fps at the same level, but this is free, heavily supported, continually developing, and very accurate. Just download, and do a couple training missions, and then log on and play.

Agreed, Tooz_69GIAP http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

AAO rulz in terms of realism. It's actually more a sim than an FPS.

Anyway, I've been very dissapointed by the "final" release, too. Didn't like the gameplay and the ballistics and hit ratios were much better in earlier version. Dunno, how what this version is like, though, so I'd welcome some reviews http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

A speck of dirt on your windscreen could turn into an enemy fighter in the time it took to look round and back again. A little smear on your goggles might hide the plane that was coming in to kill you.

Iron sight sway = 3d-sights?

Sounds good.

AA was just a couple of months ago upgraded to the Unreal engine and has cool ragdoll physics, along with more precise hit points. And the Stryker APC is being introduced in a few months as drivable (they are being introduced sooner, but not drivable at first) and with working 0.50cal (wonder how they model that one?? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif ).

And to counter the armour threat for the grunts, a new anti armour missile thing (I forget what it's called) is also being introduced for blowing up the Stykers (well, you will actually blow up a Russian BT-something, as you only kill the terrorist guys and they all use russian stuff!!!)

The only thing I am not too thrilled about with AA is the single type format. There's almost no variation in game play. There are a bunch of cool maps, and plenty of cool weapons to play with, but you can't create your own missions, or objectives, and stuff. And it is entirely online, zero offline stuff except for the training missions (you can open the maps offline and do weird stuff, but it gets boring by yourself).

But it's free, and the gfx are cool, and it's being constantly updated and worked on. I just wish they would do a WWII mod http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Acutally the Stryker is allready included. It is just stationary. But you can use the turret-HMG (cal.50) - awesome firepower - don't know the effect on a 109 from dead six, though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

It's true, that you cannot create your own maps and there are no third person created maps to download. But that's perfectly okay for me, because there is a hughe amount of time being spent on balancing the included levels. Grenade-Spamming a la DoD, CS or CoD is a known issue and is being effectively countered.

The objectives and maps themselves are VERY variable. From large DesertMaps or icy paths over Night-Recons to Intrusion/Extraction-Missions and CloseQuarter-StreetFights.

An with the SpecialForces update, you can even conigure your weapons http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Actually this sounds right on. Rookies died quickly when entering combat for the first time and vetrans survived by knowing when to poke their heads up.

@Tooz_69GIAP

There are three Strykers in the map SF-Arctic. They are located between the hills to protect the convoy, the attackers have to secure. Every teammember of the attacking side, has a LAW, a disposable LightAntitankWeapon (=rocket) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif
Supporting troops have an RPG7.

The defending party can enter the Strykers and use the main gun via optics. Awesome sound, that gun, awesome.....

@ RJNewly
Of course you are correct, but actually in WW2 there were not many snipers. And if you look at most games like MOHAA, CoD or similar games, there are loads of snipers. Same with RO. I played a mission with 12 ppl and 7 were snipers......
And that's when I like AAO most: You get the sniper-rifle when there are enough people running around with other weapons, so the number of snipers is limited to a maximum of 2 per side.

I like sniping myself sometimes, but a server with campers only (not moving after one maybe two shots makes the difference between a camper and a sniper) just sux,IMHO
