Hi folks!

Here is the Friday update:

Please try to identify which one new cockpit of the new FW-190 version will be in FB. Currently it isn't listed in a full list of new planes for FB. It will be our present for sim community and included in final release. It is finished except several labels on the red details /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif .

Flyable P-40E, developed in 3D by Radek Jakubiak:

Pilots head. The new features /i/smilies/16x16_robot-wink.gif . It will be done finally for all planes before release of FB:

http://screenshots.us.ubisoft.com/IL-2/pilot1.jpg

http://screenshots.us.ubisoft.com/IL-2/pilot2.jpg

Reworked cockpit of La-5FN. Now it has the same quality level of the correct details that had in the past other planes. Simply early we hadn't so good info for the cockpit of this plane like now (anyway it was done for this plane with the very high level of quality... simply now it is even higher /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif ).

This is the device for the emergency drop of canopy on the La-5 sereis:

http://screenshots.us.ubisoft.com/IL-2/la5fn_1.jpg

And.. Mistel 1, that currently is developing by Ilya 'Luthier' Shevchenko. It is one of the features that planned in the follow on add-ons right after the release of FB. Last time we had grat discussions with him how to support FB in future and which directions to select. Sure all things will be very interesting until we'll be able to finish the new sim /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif

http://screenshots.us.ubisoft.com/IL-2/Mistel01.jpg

And more: German observation balloon. Barrage balloons - it is another feature /i/smilies/16x16_robot-wink.gif

Wow!

All I can say is you're psychotic Oleg!!! I can't wait!!!

Two quick questions:

1. Are we getting a Ta-152 in FB initial?
2. Will this system be able to handle FB?

PIV 1.6 GHz; Intel D845 Motherboard 400 Mz Front Bus; Ultra DMA/100 &4 AGP, 512 MEG PC 133 SDRAM Memory, 4 x AGP with 32 MB RAM and 40 GB Ulra DMA/100.

Thanks and keep up the terrific work.

The level of detail of the City of Leningrad is amazing. I can dream of city battles and aerial duels. People waving their hands on the balconies, cheering when I down jerry one more time until the next one. To think that it will all become rubble in the bitter end....

The FW190 cockpit is outstanding (asall the FW190s in the game). I think they are the best. Although that LA5 upgraded looks very nice indeed. Good marks on both (and all).

Mistel, mistel....isn't that a Xmas adjective for...???

Lovely pics of St.Petersburg! (Sorry, Leningrad..)

I can even see the Navy Archive (RGAVMF) where I did historical research in 2000! - - I studied Kotzebues expedition with the Predpriyatie 1817-20... - good memories coming back from my time in Piter! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

And yes, you were right about the colour of the Hermitage, I checked with a historian I know in Piter...

Once again absolutely stunning screenshots!

The Leningrad scenes were incredible. Given the heavy concentration of objects, I have performance concerns (similar to Berlin) for my older Dell PIII 700mhz. Might be time to upgrade?

I've always been impressed by the attention to detail in IL-2 Sturmovik and now the upcoming FB add-on. Today, for example, I noticed the VVS-KA aviation collar tabs on the P-40 pilot's flightsuit. Amazing!

Judging by the number of hardpoint indicators the mistery Fw 190 is almost certainly the F8. I remember Oleg mentioning he would include it at or immediatly after the release of FB a while back. I look forward to flying it. Of course there are few planes in FB I don't look forward to flying/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif . To be honest the only one I really don't care about is the La7.

Wow. Awesome!

Leningrad looks fantastic, great job on that.

I know it's only a small detail, but I think the pilots faces are a great improvement.

Can we see a in game shot from inside the P-40 cockpit sometime? That would be very nice. (I love that P-40).

Oleg, I want to extend a big thank you and your team for doing such an outstanding job! IL-2 is the only game I have ever purchased that continues to hold my interest. FB is looking absolutely fabulous! I am extremely excited about FB, but what impresses me most is your willingness to share, respond, and communicate with the IL-2 community. You are setting a new precedent for the gaming industry. One that is going to be tough for other developers to follow.

All I can say is if this is the Russian way of doing things, I'm moving to Russia! Screw George Bush and his new trigger happy America!

The images of a Hurricane over Leningrad have made my day. And those orange lights in the Fw are quite pretty... I'm also guessing 109F!

Was something done to the horizon graphics? The horizon looks softer and more blue than in Il-2. I've been meaning to ask about it since last week's update...

The models are segmented so is possible to set them by segments in the big construction.

And with the feature of FMB to use it you may set them now say in Berlin, where they were missed.

Each segment is damage able.

The FW-190? I'm guessing F8 with R4M's loaded.
Love the buildings in Leningrad.
Something I'd like to see, just because WWII Fighters had it, albeit poorly modeled: soldiers on foot or maybe soldiers marching on the road, or just people in general to add another aspect of realism to it. Maybe ground crew for aircraft? How about the Russians trying to throw a pontoon bridge across the Dniepr or Oder river before Rudel gets there? I know.I'm dreaming.....

Great work as usual, Oleg and team. for the Fw variant, I'm guessing F-8 (U14 with torpedo, anyone?), though a G-3 with SB 1000 would be nice too. Helps with my bad aim again.

So will both side pilots wear best looking uniform! I guess if Oleg will offer option that can change style of uniform. For example Erich Hartmann sometime see in pictures wear camoflage to aid him escape behind emeny line if have to crash landing. I didnt read it, it just reminded me what i learned last week at chemic (and physics) at school.

but is it true you can catch another plane in the balloon's explosion?
and at what altitude do balloons swin stable?
Here, at queensday there are balloon races, everyone lets up a small helium balloon (thats 4 times the weight of hydrogen** hydrogen is 1p 0neuthrons 1 electron, and helium 2p, 2 neutron and 2 electon** i believe but most ofthose balloons are never seen back, only ones that are leak.

sometimes they go up in a helicopter and chase them... some go high..higher...higher... PANG and the paper they carry (with name and adress of the guy that let em up on it) falls down.... so thats why i thought they'd go boom at high altitude

I still think that 190F series was the best ground attackers before Il-10 was born.

So I expect F8 after FB in add-on or even early.

the mistel will be excellent .. the first mistel apparently used bf109's for the "Vater" half of the "Vater and Sohn" combo.

There was a lw plan (operation EISENHAMMER)to send 82 of the mistals against russian power plants but they were diverted urgently to taking out bridges instead .. this operation would make an excellent co-op mission.

Helium gas is only twice as dense as hydrogen gas at the same pressure and temperature.

Helium being monatomic, whilst hydrogen is diatomic.

i think Oleg will model these planes (maby not the c-0 only a few semi-prototypes ever saw action) because he is modeling russian planes wich saw little action (or in small numbers) so he will do the same for the germans

S~ Oleg!

*A*S*T*O*N*I*S*H*I*N*G*
I can't wait...

Regarding the cockpit i believe that is either an F8 variation or -more posibly- an F9 modification (for the friends i post a photo below).
-------------------
Please allow me to ask/propose a few things:
*Did the WWII planes (even the later models) had an identification friend or foe (IFF) device? I think i've heared that they did. If this is true, would that worth it to be included in a future add-on?
*How about radars? (i dream of a night-fighter mission, something like a Bf-110, with radar)
*Since i've started playing the game, i searched the web for info about the amount of ammunition each plane was carring. I found that even for specific variations of a plane the ammo load was not always standard and i'm curius about the ammo preferences your team have put into the game. Would be possible, please, to inform us through your site about this details?
------------------
What - I -would - love - to - see - in -the -future by your team:
* A game like IL-2 about the WWII in the Mediteranean and the North Africa
(I'm a Greek!)
* A Flight Simulator with the whole globe mapped and many airports (i believe that your team is capable of building "The mother of all simulators"
* A game like IL-2 about the Sino-Soviet-Japanese war (Biplanes! Yes!)

IIRC, RAF aircraft and others had IIF - but these were only of use to ground-based radars looking at them. Secondly, radar-equipped aircraft were either not used or very rare on the Eastern Front.

Great pilot improvement!!!
It has goggles, instead of the old Scuba-dive mask!
Wil the Luftwaffe pilots have the 'Nitsche & Gunther'sun-gogles?

And maybe for future; the pilots wearing oxygen mask when fliyng above 10.000 ft.

The players pilot-head moving, when using padlock or rudder controls, this would ad extra realism to the trackfiles!

Just keep up the excelent work!

What a superb sim IL2 FB is becoming, just love the Hurri and thank goodness for the new look pilots.

How I wish a Battle of Britain version of IL2 could be created although several of the aircraft or earlier version in FB were used during the BoB.

Look forward to purchasing FB in the near future.

At the start of WW2 the German army lacked experienced anti-aircraft gunners. The average gunner was so bad that the USSR decided to help them out. They did it by forcing some of their pilots to fly I-153 flak magnets. These planes were slow but very sturdy. This allowed German anti-aircraft gunners to get a large amount of target practice on a relatively small number of planes. Thanks to the Soviets help, by the end of the war the German anti-aircraft gunners were amoung the best in the world.

BAN TOPGUN!!!

-------------

"The picture repeats itself when operations, which began with great intent and local successes, degenerated into senseless, wild hammering at fixed front-line positions once they encounter initial heavy losses and unforeseen situations. This incomprehensible phenomenon appears again and again. But, even in extremis, the Russian is never logical; he falls back on his natural instinct, and the nature of the Russian is to use mass, steamroller tactics, and adherence to given objectives without regard to changing situations."
