Here's a quick heads up for all of you eagerly anticipating the next patch

Patch 1.31 will only include the arm patches fix that that caused server connection problems. Testing on it will begin next week and public release is expected in 3 weeks.

Tony Ray, from Even Balance, is working closely with our team in integrating Punkbuster and everything is going smoothly. More to come on this later.

The SA servers (windows - linux) will hit testing in a few days. Exact release on this is uncertain right now.

What can you expect in the future?
<ul>
<LI>Patch 1.4 is being worked on and is scheduled for release at the end of August. This is shaping up to be the largest patch thus far in terms of bug fixes and improvements.
<LI>Plans for an official MOD and release of an SDK are underway (expect both to come later).
[/list]
That's it for now. I'll continue to post updates as I get 'em.

UBI...your going to fast...i suggest you pace yourself /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

<A HREF=http://www.savealaskawolves.org</A>/akwolves_hdr.jpg">

Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski has signed legislation to allow hunters to kill wolves from airplanes and helicopters as a part of a plan to reduce the population of the animals over huge areas of central Alaska. Hunters in planes search for wolves, "buzz" the pack, and chase them until the wolves are exhausted. Then a person shoots from the air or lands and shoots the wolves as they flounder in the snow. Led by Defenders of Wildlife, the people of Alaska have twice voted to revoke land-and-shoot in the last seven years. But certain state officials want wolves killed to boost moose and caribou herds for hunters. To sign an online petition to Murkowski expressing your outrage over this action, go to: http://www.savealaskawolves.org

T for the info, Vulkan. A little slower on 1.31 then I was hoping, but it's great to know that this game is going to be including some positive changes. And soon.

With all due respect...

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE.

I know it's not your fault, Volkan..

But UBI screwed this series up (Rainbow Six) beyond belief with this distaster they call RvS.

I know all the fanboys love the game and apparently it runs like butter for them and they are happy the "whiners" are leaving...

But when you have "Goodbye" posts popping up on a daily basis from long time R6 fans, Clans and players, something is wrong.

My question is this:

What is UBI going to do when patch 1.4 gives new problems and drives even more players away?

How long is UBI going to support a game that has less than 1600 players online at a time?

How long is UBI going to support what essentially will be a "dead horse" when Half-Life II or Soldner comes out?

i somewhat support KungFu's idea. indeed, it's too little too late to revive the old dead RvS players, but the remaining RvS players could spawn up a whole new generation of RvS players. except i believe this is risky.

many of us here that still remain are the "die hard Clancy game fan". we're not likely to give this game up soo easily which is why we are here. so far, i must say when i try to convince my friends to buy RvS (whom i convinced to buy RS and GR), they simply arent thrilled because they dont like the features of RvS. there's nothing really spectacular about RvS in their point of view. what makes it worse is that RvS has developed soooo slow. the changes most people asked for arent really taking place and when a majority of the people ask for a change, then something IS wrong. unfortunately, it hasnt been changed.

i just hope that Athena Sword has this extreme force multiplier to make RvS worth buying for many people... but the weapon list is not helping...

Let us take a look at Volkan's post and de-bullcrap it, so it is readable in real life terms.

I was trying to check my email, and stumbled onto the boards by accident, and decided to post something amusing.

- Patch 1.31 will only include the arm patches fix
- that that caused server connection problems. Testing
- on it will begin next week and public release is
- expected in 3 weeks.

All 30 of us are working hard for 3 weeks to fix a problem that never existed. One sec the Pizza is here....

- Tony Ray, from Even Balance, is working
- closely with our team in integrating Punkbuster and
- everything is going smoothly. More to come on this
- later.

The only guy who knows what he is doing is recovering from our nudy party we held the first day, apparently he didn't take to well to our open invitation. When he is back maybe we will have someone to look up to who can do this so called "programming..."

- The SA servers (windows - linux) will hit testing in
- a few days. Exact release on this is uncertain right
- now.

Our monkies finally hit the big "Create Linux Server" button with their poo, and now we have to send it off to be tested. Unfortunately, our tester, a janitor named Bob, is still cleaning his school so we aren't sure when the linux server will be out.

- What can you expect in the future?

LOL As if we care

- Patch 1.4 is being worked on and is scheduled
- for release at the end of August. This is shaping up
- to be the largest patch thus far in terms of bug
- fixes and improvements.

We finally got our shipment of bananas in, so the monkeys can get back to work. We are looking to hit the 10mb limit for our patchs, and are looking forward to fixing the old bugs and introducing some really cool new ones. Wait til you see the one that happens when you try to switch from your Pistol to a frag..! It's halarious man, y'all are gonna love it!

- Plans for an official MOD and release of an SDK
- are underway (expect both to come later).

We are going to wait til we are on a new game to give the SDK out so we won't be able to watch people school us so badly it hurts.

- That's it for now. I'll continue to post updates
- as I get 'em.

and you can think and post that all you want, but when you start tossing personal insults, that crosses the line. I agree and don't like Ubi's philosphy on customer communication, but I don't own the company and get to dictate policy.

Honestly what I don't understand is why some people like yourself that has such a passionate hatred for the game/developers/producers keep coming back month after month only to toss insults aross the board. I can understand being frustrated when you got the game and it didn't meet your expectations and posting it on the board. But to keep coming back day after day for months on end only to **** it doesn't make sense. Move on. Find something you like. Not every game you buy is a winner. I was bitterly disapointed in SOFII. After all the glowing previews I found the game fell flat and didn't perform all that hot compared to other Q3 games. I moved on. IMHO RvS is a good game. I enjoy SP. I never have been a big MP fan and this wouldn't be my game of choice for MP. I don't have time to play with a group of people regularly and a CT game such as this would need good teamwork to be successful in multi.

I come back again and again though, because It saddens me that this series is going to end like this, waddling around in crappy programming, incompetent devs, and crappy support. And this is my feeble attempt to rant.

What the hell are you talking about spoiled with RSE? They stopped making patches 2 months after Rogue Spear was released. They did absolutely nothing to stop cheating and the game was far from perfect

At least UBI is continuing to support the game with patches and anti cheating software and while it may be taking awhile, they are at least giving it an effort.

If you are so sick of the game, lack of communication, and bi<a></a>tch and moan when there is some, them quite frankly get off the forums and go to hell.

Yeah, I think it may be too late for a turn around really. I mean, if we would have been able to work on mods from the very start, you might have seen some really good objective-based gameplay modes come out and such. But by the time that hits, you're staring down the barrel of Half-Life 2, the original which spawned somewhere in the neighbourhood of 86 million mods.

So that's likely to happen again. Anyone who would be doing any SERIOUS mods for this game are going to jump ship, come up with their own tactical shooter (degenerate it into totally random occurrances) and become wildly popular spawning a retail release and everything.

Meaning, give us an UnrealEd that hasn't been deliberately crippled and let us get something going.

1) The mods can bypass the language filter. The filter is the same for all UBI forums, including those that have a 'G' rating. We don't have access to the filter list. I believe "pissed" is also prohibited by the filter, but we don't have a problem with it.

2) You said you were warned the first time you posted with xxxx, but apparently you never had before, as I found when I went through all your previous posts. Not sure why you posted that, but in any case, that would be your first warning then, not your second.

Well if they dont take there time testing it then we may have even an even worse problem then servers crashing, if it takes 3 more weeks to make sure this patch isnt going to make things worse then let them have.
I can understand that some of you are frustrated but its gonna be time to fix these bugs without making more bugs.

Thx for the update Volkan.
Its a shame that things are abit slow in coming (Icant RVS at all after the V1.3 patch/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif ) but I´d rather the patches were fully tested and tweaked before release...
So its back to RTCW ET and BF1942 until after august.

Here is why I have a problem with this information, and yes, I understand the Volkan is just relaying this to us.

The standalone servers were said to be near-completion over a FRIGGIN MONTH ago. NOW they're going into testing?

The armpatch screw-up...how in the hell can they even TRY to justify a 3-week wait for something as critical, common, and downright STUPID of a mistake as this? I mean what the hell, do the developers only work from 1-2pm, on every third Monday of the month? Is that why they suck at completion dates and doing things properly?

Speaking of which, a REAL patch to fix problems is going to come only...let's see..March 18th or so the game went retail, August 30th or so a real patch is scheduled for...that would make it FIVE MONTHS--FIVE DAMN MONTHS before they actually FIX something!? Most games with critical problems upon release have a development team that has a patch ready the DAY it goes retail, yet with Ubi get get to wait over 150 days for anything remotely HELPFUL.

This is a bunch of crap.

Shadow bug, frag bug, spawn bug, armpatch bug, not being able to switch to a gun without pulling another ****ing grenade out first like we're controlling ******ed operatives created by Walt Disney with strings, silencer poll shows more damange should be dealt, frame rates are COMPLETELY independant it seems of system specs, fluid peek cheat (has that been fixed?). I know there is a countless list of others include the netcode that I'm missing.

SOMEONE needs to put the Dev's arses in gear because this is a complete joke and they're spitting in the face of the people who BOUGHT this game to support THEIR supposed 'work.'

I'm pretty contempt with RVS.

My clan and I play hours on end with no problems. We enjoy it so much we rent a Raven Shield server for $112/month. The package includes a public 16 player server, web domain, web space, and a team speak channel all hosted on an OC-192 connection in Dallas.

Ya... RVS sure is good. It has a few bugs but big deal. I trust Ubisoft with patches because I remember how well there patches for Splinter Cell did. They were incredible about what they achieved.

My moneys already down for Athena Sword. Can't wait for that. And of course Rainbow Six 4 (If there ever is one).

What saddens me about RVS is this.

I don't know why, but I read about a few companys that were planning to do mods for Raven Shield. These were going to be big time mods (Like Desert Combat is to BF1942) but they all stopped process because Ubi decided not to release a SDK. So, they took there project to Half-Life II and are already working on it, even though its not out.

I was rather bummed about this because I would enjoy a good Mod or two. Especially a jungle type of thing.

I was also baffled about the 1.3 patch. The server crash on "Deploying Teams...1" crash bug interests me because I keep wondering how the developers (Or beta testers) missed this.

But like I said in the beginning, I see a better future for RVS sometime after the 1.4 release in August and can't wait. I also believe stand alone servers will double the amount of players, but who knows...

Im ranting aren't I? I'll shut up.

If they manage to make it vaguely realistic, I might buy it. But if, like in RvS, they just pay lip service to realism and tell the authentic gun stats (for instance) to bugger off and stop bothering them, then forget it - Ubi's lost another sale.

Volkan, thanks for the update bud.

Is there any way we can know how many devs they have working, how many hours each (average), and what kind of educational background (for computers / games related), and how long they were in school (or GPA)???

I really think we deserve to know, since simple fixes (that shouldn't have slipped by 1.3) is going to be taking 3 weeks for a fix to come out (including the 2 weeks since the bug was noted)...

I can understand how tweaking the fix, and all this good stuff would take a long time. But I believe we deserve to know if it is warranted, and if something is hampering this process (such as poor programming skills, lack of man-power, tediousness programming (bigger bug than we think), or etc...).

Basically... how do they figure???

again, thanks for the updates... and it's too bad that on these updates the devs get reemed; but they pretty much deserve it at this point. I know that I could sit here and say that "oh wait till 1.4", but that's what we all said about 1.3.

Also, Jackal PDW, I was LOL reading your post. It was pretty funny; too bad it doesn't really show much appreciation for the update. But I hear ya...

One question:

How many of you guys actually program? I don't mean putting out a little utility in VB- I mean really really program?

Those of you who do (I have college courses in it but don't really program either) know one thing:

bugfixes are probably the single hardest thing a coder does. Not only do you have to figure out where the bad lines of code are-- not the easiest thing since most if not all bugs don't replicate 100%, and often reside across multiple modules-- but you have to make sure that the fix you implement has no synergistic effects (ie that the bugfix does not break anything else)

Now imagine that you are working with already buggy code you bought from another company. You weren't in on the original developement, but are coming in later, so you don't have a full grasp of the codebase. You tack on your code and presto! A spaghetti farm!

The slow rate of fixes from the developers probably results from the above.

The lack of communication on these issues is another matter entirely.

I used to program (not heavily, like you mentioned), but Ubisoft developed the Unreal engine theirselves. They made Unreal. They were the ones who decided to use that same engine for the next installment of the Rainbow Six series.

The amount of advertising of Xbox games ubi does on their site leads me to believe that they have no interest in the PC version whatsoever, i should imagine they get a hefty sum of money from microsoft for doing xbox ports its prob alot easier since they dont need to constantly patch a console game and most console ports are usually dumbed down to some degree in certain areas.

since the release of the xbox, microsoft has thrown millions and millions at the publishers and developers this has made the pc much less important, the situation will prob get much worse and titles will stopped being developed for the pc altogether.

the blatant greed of ubi is astonishing they've spent god knows how long development time on this pathetic CD-key login crap even on small LAN games and disguised this feature with the ladder rankings, its almost identical system used by some high end software that makes u logon when opening the programme, what next a dongle with every version!

im sick and tired of this greed and i will make damn sure that i avoid buying anything the the words UBI on the box in the future.

Right, that was what I meant. They bought the engine from someone else, and from what I have read, it was not the final version of the engine, either. So they have not only their own bugs, but the bugs from the engine build they bought and the bugs that come from the meshing of the two.

No fun.

when they purchased the licience it was the most recent Unreal Tech build. I imagine you could either buy the current engine in the licience, or get updates. I've read that around 70% of the code was changed when programing the game, so it wouldn't be all that easy for them to just 'drop in' the updated Unreal Tech code. They could probably modify it some, but who really knows unless they are on the inside.
