Hello,

I am asking on the behalf of the official Jug whiners that some talented 3D modeller do the P-47N or M to become flyable in FB. It would require quite a bit of work to do the "N", however I believe that the "M" could be done rather easily. For your hard work and coming to the rescue of much needed American fighter aircraft there are others but that can be another deal. I would be more than willing to contribute financially as well as any history and so on that may be needed. You can contact me through our website or here in this thread. And if there are several modellers who are interested in this project I have other allied a/c I would be more than happy to contribute financially to make happen.

I would be willing to contribute financially as well, as long as my name were embedded in the model and couldn't be removed http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

In all seriousness, I would absolutely be willing to contribute to help see the M/N series make it into the game.

I wonder what the prospects are of getting it finished considering the limited time frame, or if 1C/Maddox would consider another paid addon if most of the work were done by 3rd parties for all the planes included?

I'd rather have one of the late Ds myself, preferrably the D-35RE. Big cockpit changes required for any new P-47 model, mind you; since a lot of the later ones had the K-14 gunsight and different avionics.

Yeah Korolov I too would love to see the D-35 or D-40 in the game, put I am picking these two variants because they offer the most difference in performance and also they have not been done before. I can't think of a better sim to finally see these P-47's in myself. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Big? Maybe... but I still belive that it would be ezer to take an existing aircraft and cockpit model and tweak it than to do one from scratch.. But that is because I dont belive it is a BIG difference in them.. At least not as different as the razor back vs bubble top.

I would also be willing to contribute finacially to getting the P-47M and N. I think we'd get more bang for the buck with the N, as it was still a multi-role fighter. The M was closer to a pure fighter and had shorter legs. The N was almost as fast, with a very long range and ground attack capability. (10 HVARS) So if I had to choose, it would be the N. However, for just plain kicking a$$ in A to A, the M would rock. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Here (http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/~wingman/p47.html) is a general side by side comparison of the production P-47 variants.

I am under the impression that stuff not finished for the Addon Pack will be released in an additional patch following the Addon and that at least one member of the 1C team will be dedicated to working on these things for another 6 months or a little less. Time is definately ticking but I'm sure many aircraft can be done in that timeframe if there are the right opportunities.

the M has very little external differences, so its more a cockpit/fm change
it shouldnt take much time at all to add it to fb

If I was a half decent modeller I would do this... I also wouldn't mind seeing the Ar 234 make it into FB... how ever... I don't think I'm quite ready to try making stuff for FB... my quality (or lack of) being the main factor.

You could always try your skill in making some ground objects. Tanks, SPGs and armoured cars are rather boxy.

Hi,

You guys serious about this? I am a 3d modeler using several 3D apps but MAX/MILKSHAPE would be ideal for this.

Right now I only have IL-2 so I would need FB for this right? This can be esily done in MAX or exported using Direct X format using Polytrans. I am guessing here since I do not have FB and do not know the game format's that are compatible with it.

I have a WWII Fighters Book showing the F-47N although this book does not shown an 'M' version only an 'N'. Do you guys have any reference specification/blueprint for this plane? Let me know.

Your questions can all be answered at www.netwings.org (http://www.netwings.org). They have a forum there just for modelers, run by modelers, to answer any questions you might have. You may not even have to start from scratch, as the P-47D models are done and working. It may be possible to modify them, the M would be easier, as it's dimensions were virtually the same as the P-47D models.

Here are some links about the P-47, differant models:

USAF Museum (http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/research/p47.htm) Has pics of P-47M/N

Just FYI (http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/~wingman/p47.html) on the major differances of production P-47s.

Close up pics (http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/AWA1/001-100/walk057_P-47M/walk057.htm) of a P-47D/M for scale modelers.

I've also left this in your Private Messages and invited Eagle as well.

Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Nice! It would be cool to be able to drop a liferaft to downed airman on a mission, and then defend yourself from an attack, or perhaps pounce a Fw-200 on patrol. Maybe even strafe a U-boat. Can they be taken out by HMG fire in FB? I'm preetty sure I fly several versions of Snorri's skins. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Thanks for your hard work!

Do you think there is even the possiblilty the XP-72 would ever be modelled for FB? Can it be included?

Relax, Greenhorn. ( I feel like a grizzled old cowpoke http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ) There is a modeler on the first page who is interested in doing the P-47M and/or N models. Here's (http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/~wingman/p47.html) a good site for comparisions of production P-47 models.

XP-72
PERFORMANCE
Maximum speed: 490 mph
Range: 1,200 miles
Service ceiling: 42,000 ft.

P-47M
PERFORMANCE
Maximum speed: 470 mph (*)
Range: 560 miles
Service ceiling: 42,000 ft.

P-47N
PERFORMANCE
Maximum speed: 467 mph
Range: 2350 miles, with external tanks
Service ceiling: 42,000 ft.

(*) One flight reached 488 mph. 470mph is official. Common overboosting techniques could exceed the official speed by 15 to 20 mph. Info on this taken from here (http://home.att.net/~historyzone/Seversky-Republic7.html).

Then there's this ugly duckling.

Speaking of Chrysler's XIV-2220, do any of you know of any good sources of technical info and development history on engines like this? That kind of info seems to be hard to find on just about any WWII aero engine save for the DB600 series and the Merlins.

Well, I am gonna finish my Do-217M first before I do anything else. But it doesnt seem like a tall order. But I would first have to complete the M and help my Omega squad members complete whatever else is on the list.

But consider it under advisement.
