Silent Hunter 2 is about the best multiplayer WWII sub game out there, not a patch on Aces of the Deep in single player though IMHO.
There's a league setup for SH2 called the WolfPack League, you can find it here: http://www.sh2fleet.com

I'd recommend Enigma Rising Tide. Not as complex or realistic as Silent Hunter II, but far more exciting.

The sea rendering is just beautiful (Much better than the flat seas of SHII), and you'll also get a good deal of surface ships.
The 1st person view from the 3D bridge is brilliant. Worth a try!

A vote for Silent Hunter 2 with the Projekt Messerwetzer patch. SH2 can be played online with Destroyer Command players for great sub/destroyer battles.

Sh2 without Neil's patch is pretty lame. The Wolfpack League guys, at their own expense did what Ubi failed to do... completing the game so that it would function. I never could get a game online going but I gave up and started flying IL2 before the patch. Maybe Ubi will actually put out a completed product in SH3.

A great flotilla: www.hundius.com (http://www.hundius.com)

I haven't played multiplayer SH2, so I can't comment on that, but I've played the single-player part, and to put it bluntly: It sucks.

There are zillions of issues with the game. The most annoying is probably that the AI has god vision and a sonar/radar that modern navies would envy them.

If you can live with the graphics, I would recommend Aces of the Deep. It's ooold, but it's one of the best subsims ever made.

Or wait for SH3. Maybe Ubi will get it right this time.

I too prefer Aces of the Deep over SH2. The destroyers in SH2 are a little too acurate in their depth charging - kinda like the AI bomber gunners in IL-2.

Good on yer!!! You should be able to find SH2 and Sub Command for budget prices. They've both been out for a few years now (2001 if my memory serves), I've seen SH2 at my local shop for 10 and in a 3 for 20 type deal.
Saying that I've just checked the subsim store and they're both available for $12.95 each.
