The usual questions : will this be released in the US or UK ? Is there an English language version ? Is this for real ?? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Can someone please translate the information written in German to English ? Or give us a summary. Thanks.

LOL, Ashe you beat me to it.

Tacking the word "honor" on to what the Germans did in WWII would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Have you flown BoE?

IMHO it IS good!

As far as "rebirth of Honour" goes - I'm not sure if we can take it seriously - see this thread http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=98;t=009551 and check out this bit "Now to the sound effects, you will not belive the sound of the engine start on all of the aircraft, even the tires turning when the aircraft is taxing down the runway,it sounds like you are right there. The sound effects of the cannion and machine gun will make you sit up"

It's as if the "reviewer" believes that the FB sound engine has been tweaked somehow??? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Extreme One,

I have BOE, flown it, don't care for it.

1. Waaay too many objects. The bomber escort missions are like slide shows. Impossible.

2. The missions are not dynamic. Start a campaign over and you fly exactly the same missions again.

3. BOE does not yet have the AEP new planes. DCG does.

4. There are major historical inaccuracies. If you fly the P-47 in Normandy, you fly 56th FG. BUT you fly it from French fields. And, if I recall, the briefing says you are flying as part of the 9th Air Force. The 56th FG always was stationed in England and never flew CAS missions and always was part of the 8th AF. This is the most famous P-47 unit in the USAAF. You can't fake it.

5. The missions tend to repeat themselves. It's clear there is just a short list of missions and, even though they move on the map, they're all pretty much the same.

I won't rant on. These are just like the Starshoy campaigns in IL-2 and FB, which every reviewer said was the weakest part of the sim.

DCG provides so much more than BOE and it's free. I strongly recommend it.

EO, your campaigns are super. I have no frame rate problems with any of your missions. They're clever, challenging and fun to fly.

S!

And once again this board has demonstrated its apparent lack of reading skills and its excessive amount of prejudices.

"Rebirth of Honor" is a semi-fictious campaign where 'the austrian corporal' is removed somewhen in 1941/42. I don't know why certain people always have to rant and ***** even without understanding the matter.

Oh tttiger - you should also mention that DCG has a rather high learning curve and speaking of historical inaccuracies it's not a single % better than DGEN. With the exception that I have figured out how to change units within DGen rather easily.

I don't wish this to sound too mean, it's just circumstantial evidence...

This addon was announced a while back by SWEET WILLIAM over on SimHQ. He has also posted there a number of times about his difficulty with installing BoE. In all his posts, he has a tendency to use CAPITALS, has very poor grammar and spelling, and generally comes over as having a mental age of about 12. I've not flown his demo, but many have praised it, which is promising. Still, the impression one gets from his posts is not of someone with attention to detail or much imagination...

Time will tell if it is vapourware and if not, how good the campaign/skins will be.

"Sweet William" is not the maker of "Rebirth of Honor" - the maker's callsign is "pluswave". A lot of german players ordered it and seem to be very excited about it.

This is done by the same fellow who made the popular Pik-As campaigns for IL-2 Sturmovik. Still, it's not surprising to see knee-jerk reactions on the forums.

I was asked my opinion about translation of the title of this project into English last year, and I found the description of the project not only not offensive, but interesting and very creative.

For those who wouldn't read the basic storyline (http://www.pluswave.de/ROH/Campaign/Story/story.html) before winding up their crank, the basic premise is an alternative history springing from his imaginiation based on his own research of events and politics. (I don't know how extensive it is, but it seems to be at least at a level of your average campaign maker.)

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>The story of the campaign is not about a Germany, which gets rid of Hitler, avoids all his major mistakes and wins the war. The story of `ROH´ is far more complicated.

Until the mid of 1942, the campaign keeps striktly to the realy history. I own an extensive library about World War II, the 19th and 20th century, about history and military history. Some of the books are very rare copies of US- american post war analyze works. With the `Kriegstagebuch des OKW´ (war diary of the German head command) I was able to investgate many incidents from the fronts at that time. As close as possible, I tried to create the missions around real events, with real weather at the real dates. I extensively used maps, which unfortunately show only situations at specific times.

From mid 1942 on, after Hitler´s death, the fictive story starts. Politics, strategy and the war economies take another way, than we know it. It lasts up to the end of the campaign, until the player gets a whole insight in the true events. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Of course we all "have the right" to moan about better campaigns and all the skins that are available to us for free. That's fine. Now go and weave them all together into an interesting storyline. A DCG will make missions for you, but they'll never be imaginative or follow any storyline other than a real, historic campaign. That's great, it's what many of us want. Most of the time.

What this guy is offering is a story, but in an alternative format to a book or console video game. I think it's a great idea. My only question is the playability of the missions. It might be best to run it under 1.21 instead of AEP. Mission tweaking in campaigns can be tricky. It's probably a shame he didn't have a Bf-110 to fool with during the creation.

I admit that at nearly 30 euros it's a bit pricy for me, because although the price is not prohibitive, I have to consider whether I would actually fly the campaign. I do most of my flying online nowadays and don't get much campaigning in, especially since I tend to fly the whole mission without autopilot or time compression. (Don't hold myself strictly to it though.) The 333 missions is a lot, which is good, and the story does seem interesting, especially with 75 movies.

If I were not an onliner (for both play and forum), I should think this would be a very tempting campaign, especially if I liked flying German aircraft. And I think that this product is especially aimed at the offline campaign crowd, which constitutes the vast majority of FB owners.

Cheers,
Mike

yes extreme BOE is better then the other packs by far, but i returned my boe after a couple days http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif, sootys skins are excellent tho IMO.

I just felt the work done in BOE is nowhere near the ammount of work put into FB so why should it be more money and you know Im against the whole selling skins and missions deal. Starshoys making a killing with profit for not much work, i wonder how much he paid sooty, probbaly not much compaired to what he made. The dynamic campaign generator is ok, but then again so is the free one.

Also the many bugs in boe made me return it and get my money back. out of all the other packs boe is at the top quality without a doubt. This new one i have no clue about but looks very bad

Now luthier with PF now thats some massive work he and the modelers are doing, if PF is an addon for FB or PF incorporates all the aircraft and maps into PF from FB/AEP id be more then happy to pay 49-59 MS prices. If PF is a stand alone that splits the small il2 community no money from me.

It seemed a bit more inflammatory, since it applies to the current-day situation. (I did want to add a comment about the previous posts.) I agree that a lot of regrettable and evil things happen in wars past and present, but this is not the place to discuss them. I usually keep my mouth shut but I would just like to see this thread kept useable.

Mike

So, understanding what I can from the German pages on the site, I gather this is not compatible with AEP ? I see a version for FB 1.0 and 1.21, and not any further. I do agree that some of the claimed features sound to good to be true, so I'll be interested in accounts from those who have played ROH.

But for me, again, it comes down to distribution in the US (or at least, an English language version). I still don't have BOE for that reason.

Thanks for the heads up.

I really like the sound of this... I like playing campaigns that have a proper story to them, with in-game movies that propel the narrative along.

I really liked BoE when it first came out but I got tired of it after a couple of weeks. The missions are well done but they are all exactly the same! Nothing ever happens, you just shoot at the same planes over and over again.

That's why I'm so desperate for the AEP patch - hopefully it will mean the release of the new BoE patch and some much needed variety to the missions.

This sounds more like what I'm after. I'm going to check out the demo for this right away. This looks very promising indeed.

Capt._Tenneal,

Click on the link in my first post in this thread and you'll land on a page in English. There are parallel versions, one in English and one in German. It's already been posted how you enter the site in English, but here's a link again:

Huxley, what do you mean about BOE being endless ? I'm interested because I want to buy it if they ever release it Stateside. Do you mean the war never ends and just continues on or do I take it to mean not enough variety in missions ? Just escort bombers for the USAAF and attack bombers for the LW ad infinitum ?

Back to ROH, there is a trade-off IMO on scripted campaigns like ROH and dynamic campaigns like DGEN or DCG. There is more immersion in scripted campaigns whereas dynamic campaigns give you more freedom.

It certainly feels that way... but in reality it is following historical events fromthe Normandy Landings up until the end of the war from the Western Front point of view.

What that means in reality is seemingly endless P51 vs Bf109 combat missions with huge groups of high flying B17s arriving at some point in every mission and little else besides.

Like I say, it is very well done and the first 20 or so missions were very exciting, but the lack of variety means it gets stale quickly for me at least.

This demo is well worth a download.

I don't like the fact that the Primary Objective is always achieved just by taking off... but the missions are nice - things like rescue your friend or help the stricken Bf110s. Lots of big dogfights too.

Another nice touch is that you seem to start on the taxiway most of the time, with your engine already running, and have to make your way to the runway. Gives a real sense of scrambling.

hi
i ve played most of the roh demo, the missions
are pretty good as well as the theme.i just didn t care for the skins.but every thing else
seemed pretty well done.the 300+ missions per side make it seem like a good deal.how many missions in boe per side?srry i don t know much about boe, cheers.

After it was refeuled i climbed in.With many manipulations the mechcanics started the turbines.I followed their actions with the greatest of interest. The first one started quite easily.the second caught fire.In no time the whole engine was on fire.Luckily as a fighter pilot i was used to getting quickly out of the cockpit. The fire was quickly put out.The second plane caused no trouble - Adolf Galland (first time in a ME262)
