Hi, i have a dell laptop running with 512 RAM, 3Ghz and 64Mb geforce 5200 Go card.

what graphic settings should i be using - DirectX or OpenGL. Also, what does the stencil buffering do ?

IL-2 and FB are optimized to run with OpenGL, so you should get better frame rates with it. However, just try both for a while and see which one you like better, the image quality will differ somewhat. Stencil buffer alters the textures somewhat, basically making things look nicer, a bit more life-like. I'm no expert, but under some circumstances it can add some nice touches, under others very little. It does consume some resources, so if you are having frame rate issues, turn it off. Your graphics card might not be quite fast enough for all settings, but it helps that your screen resolution is probably lower than a normal full-sized screen.

I hope the screen on your laptop is fast enough.

If you have more such technical questions, you're likely to get faster and better help over at the technical forums. That's no rebuke, though. (Wish they had the direct links to the other IL-2 forums, what's up with that?)

Good luck,
Mike
