Nice movie Buster82, but one thing bothers me. The B29s never fired back and thus the kills by the Oscars were way too easy. I know it's the way they played the senario but it just didn't look right to me..IMO.

But still a good preview of things to come. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I too didn't notice any firing from the bombers. Although I did see that the turrets were tracking the bandits. Perhaps they were set for an "empty" loadout?? Or maybe the AI gunners are crappy??

The B-29s were firing back at the end. At least one of them was right before the end of the clip one of the 29's had its top turret with guns blazing.

The 29s I saw hit didn't fire at all. It doesn't really matter but strange none the less. It's still a good video tho.

About 2:10 into the clip the 29 that has the Japanese fighter firing on it then breaking away to the right that B-29 has its to turret firing off to the left of the screen. Also one of the first B-29s opens up on the fighters and in the screen capture I have of it the flash appears to be in front of the tail of the aircraft as if fires to the left as well. Run it in slow motion and check those. I was curious about it as well and didn't see it the first time but saw the turrets tracking without firing.

Yes, I would have liked to have seen Oscars...but those guys are simply Ki-84Ibs, equipped with 4 20mm cannons. You can play them in AEP if ya like. They are more than equipped to take down a bomber like a B-29. Still it was an interesting video, more Japanese fighters please! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

ok. yes the gunners are fireing.
but just like with the B-17 & He-111
and all other multi crew bombers in thsi sim the Ai gunners have been nutterd.
(you can thank your local Luft-Whiner for that one since thay all screeamed and Cried Waaaaaaa the b-17 Gunners are snipers)
So it's obvious, at least to me , that they need to work on the Ai gunners and give them a little more acuracy. some of the He-11 gunners now do not fire or only fire a precentage of the time.

B-29's are looking good from what i saw.

those would more than likely be Ki-84C's attacking them. I am a little conserned over the DM on the B-29's. those franks took them out a little to easily IMO. Should have been harder. B-29 was a tough bird.

and did anyone notice the Speedbar?

True but from what i saw most were direct engine strikes. and just taking out an engine isn't enough to bring one down alone. I read a story not long ago of the P-61 Black widow crew who had to shoot down a B-29 over midway. 1/2 the cockpit and front of the plane was missing from a direct flak hit. the crew bailed out and the P-61 crew shot her down on orders to keep her from crashing on the island.

Note: She was flying with over 1/2 the cockpit GONE!

Very pretty, but surely a very lucky day for our Japanese friends.

Unless, of course, our Russian friends borrowed the Betty's damage model and plugged it into the B-29. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Not quite sure what you're on about, but the guy who made the vid, FAW_Harley, is french (I think), and that is the speedbar as seen when you use the french version. I have a feeling that the speed and altitude, etc are in metric, but then, I think the Japanese used metric anyway, so that wouldn't really be the best indication of whether the speedbar has been messed with to give knots, or feet, or whatever.

Yeah but they're not very consistent. Start an engine on fire and the guys bugger out faster than you can say "Sturzkampfflugzeug". Ruin an enemy fighter's control surfaces and send him on a shallow plane into the ground, and it's quite likely they'll never even pop the canopy. And it's real funny to see AI pilots with wounded engines try to belly land in the middle of a forest...

Oh, and I just downloaded the video. Good stuff, but it would have been nice to see the turret gunners tag at least one of the Hayates. I do hope that big flying metal sausage becomes a flyable someday...

Hi there! The music is composed by the composer Hans Zimmer. One of hollywoods greatest and best composers! The movie with the B-29s contains music from the movie "The Rock" by Zimmer and "Armageddon" by composer Trevor Rabin. I think they are buddies. The earlier movie with "Bettys bombing with torpedos" also contains Hans Zimmer music from "The Last Samurai" as well as "Pirates of Carribean". If you have watched the movie with "Avengers".. then the music from that one is from "The Thin Red Line". All are cool music arent they?? Hope this helps.. //Mike Zimmer fan http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I thought that the soundtrack on the clip sounded like a draft of Hans Zimmers "Gladiator" soundtrack. Now that it seems it was Zimmer music from Crimson Tide you can definately hear how the "Gladiator" soundtrack is an evolution of some of this earlier work. Top stuff.

Yes Ploughman. That is indeed correct. All of Hans Zimmers scores usually have a type of "sound" connected to each other. Most of his scores are usually very simmilar to the next one. For example the "love theme" heard in the movie Pearl Harbor is very simmilar to his score for "Thin Red Line" which he has composed before Pearl Harbor. The same goes for Crimson Tide and Gladiator like you said. But there is more time gap for those 2 movies, about 6 years apart.

Well I don't really want to say this, but does PF look bland to you? After watching this video (I look forward to the skinners getting to work on the B-29's), it all seems like an unimproved FB engine, which after this much development, is a real missed opportunity, IMHO. I was hoping that along with a new theatre of war, we'd see some visual improvements, particulary in the cloud structure, but alas it looks like it is not to be!

actually, I'm constantly amazed that the AI rides burning planes as long as they do. In my experience, AI doesn't bail in most cases until the planes burns then explodes---only then do they bail out, unless the pilot is kileld first.

PF IS just the FB engine. I think people are expecting it to turn water into wine.
It's Forgotten Battles in the Pacific Theater. We're not getting a whole lot of improved Graphics as far as i can tell, past the water and explosions (this could just be a few screenshots, but the explosions from bombs looks a lot more...Lo-MACish)
I think most development time has gone into new maps, AI routines, and planes and models to turn Europe into the pacific

I agree with you Mysticpuma2003! The clouds in FB and this unreleased PF really needs a rework. I have seen nice clouds in other sims.. say.. Microsofts FS2004 have really nice clouds.
