when you start a dynamic campaign you are allowed to choose your aircraft from a list, in my case i picked yak-1 for lvov '41 in the vvs fighter campaign. alas, when i reached the smolensk '41 operation, i suddenly get assigned to a I-16 Tip 18, the default in the list for aircraft for smolensk in the list of operations. is it at all possible to choose another aircraft for operations after the one you start with other than the default? i'd very much prefer to use a yak.

i've been thinking of installing IL2DCG, does the same problem exist in those dynamic campaigns too? is it a good program?

CheeseWeaver, choosing aircraft types for subsequent theaters of a campaign is a poorly documented feature, though it's not hard to do. In the screen where you first picked the Yak-1, you have to pick ALL the aircraft you will fly for the entire campaign when you first generate it. Each theater has the same pull down menu you used to pick the Yak-1 for Lvov '41. Just pick a plane for each of the theaters (I usually go from last to first, to make sure I start with the first theater. Several times I've caught myself by forgetting to highlight the first line, and wonder why I'm starting in Berlin '45.)

Can't tell you much about DCG since I haven't messed with it much. Comments I've read from others are usually very positive though.

Blottogg is correct, but even better is you can change the plane you fly in the middle of a subcampaign if you want. All you have to do is
browse to the folder for the campaign in question and change it in the status.dat file.
Find your Missions folder, then under it is all the nationalties, like DE for German campaigns.
Then under that would be the campaigns folders you are flying for the German side or whatever side you need to change. Let's say you are currently flying an I-16 Type 18 and it's the 10th mission into your subcampaign, you decide you'd rather be flying the I-16 Type 24 instead. It's easy to change it. Open up that Status.dat file and find the line I_16TYPE18 and change it to I_16TYPE24.
You will fly one more mission in the old plane
and then you will change to the Type 24 automatically. You have to use the Dgen internal
name for each plane to get it to work, I pasted all Dgen plane names in the game below for you.
Also, the planes you originally selected when you first started your career for all the future campaigns can be changed before you start flying them, so you are not locked into anything. In that same folder, there is a file called conf.dat which looks something like this:

Doe,John,Hamburg,1910
Stab_JG51
dir=missions\campaign\de\DGen_C_Kurskbraun0
Language=English
instant=false
Kursk BF_109G6
Bagration BF_109G6Late
Lvov44 BF_109G14
Berlin BF_109K4

These are the planes you first selected when you started you campaign. If you are in the Kursk subcampaign now, you could change the future plane upgrades to whatever you want, if you have changed you mind. Remember that any changes to either of these files have to be to planes on the same side. All planes are considered to be "Red" or "Blue". Blue is Germany, Finland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Japan. Red planes fly for Russia, USA, Great Britain, Poland and France. Also the first time you click on either file to open them, Windows will not know what program to associate them with. You have to open them with Notepad and make it a permanent change. All the proper Dgen plane names are as follows:
( Note: Red flyables have and asterisk and Blue flyables have two asterisks. Type them exactly as is but of course without my asterisks!!! )
