View Full Version : Where do you play online?

What are some good places to play online? This weekend I went online for the first time, and tried out Ubi and HyperLobby. Now, I haven't been at either place long enough to form waterproof opinions, but here were my first impressions (keep in mind I'm on a 56k modem):

1) Ubi: Smooth, lag-free gameplay. But a lot of people flying around in Gothas and LA-7s. Half the time I was blown up before I could take off (is this what "vulching" is?). But the people were friendly, if ruthless ;-)

2) Hyperlobby: I had a lot more problems with lag. Also, everyone seemed to be speaking some Eastern European language, which really didn't help me out at all ;-) On the plus side, people conducted themselves with a higher level of chivalry/courtesy (no shooting pilots who had bailed out, no shooting planes before they could take off), and didn't flock to the jet aircraft as much.

So where do you prefer to play online? Ubi? Hyperlobby? Somewhere else? Have my first impressions been accurate, or are they simply abberations?

All input is appreciated.

One more question: When I spawned on the runway, I would sometimes get a warning "Warning! Cheating has been detected!" What does this mean? I'm not a cheater--at least I'm not doing anything intentionally that's cheating. This happened on both Ubi and HL.

HL hands down. Ubi is a real stinker.

"Cheating has been detected!" simply means someone is warping/lagging.

Too True...my thanks as well to the Jeri. Not enough appreciation is expressed for his creation, nor the people who offer the servers.

Hyperlobby it is then.

So do most 56k users find that HL lags more or less than Ubi? From the above posts, it sounds like HL lags less, though in my brief encounter with it, it seemed to lag more.

Any insight?

All depends on the server you connect to, I am on a 56K and have had pings from 250-300 on some servers while others are a lot higher. you just have try them out, there were times when I was on a server and there was hardly any lag, but when a bunch of 56K users came on(you can tell a 56Ker by their ping) the server lagged huge and I just left the game. Still have fun though just watch the ping it might get in your way sometimes and get annoying, its really not that bad. Have Fun and Good Luck
