View Full Version : Improved damage modeling for ships in expansion pack?

The damage modeling on large ships now is pretty weak. I see that there's added ships in the expansion pack, so is there any chance the damage modeling was improved as well?

when I hit it with a bomb will I see more than a waterspout? Also, can certain guns be disabled from bomb hits, rockets. strafing, etc or will the whole thing go down at once still firing?

We should be able to destroy the Russian tankers and freighters, and in fact all smaller non armored naval vessels with guns only. Also, something should be done about the nearly impossible to accomplish "skip bombing" Why do the bomb fuses need to be set to zero? And for that matter it should only take 1 (one) aerial torpedo to sink the smaller naval ships and any freighters.

Hmmm, ship damage modeling. Hmmm.

Destroy many ships with guns only, hmmm.

Think about bomb delays and skip bombing... If your bomb has a 5 second fuse... the way this game works, the bomb hits the ship, then sinks for 5 seconds before it explodes... doing less dmg than if exploding on contact

Corection, doing no damage.

Even if you use 0.1 second delay, no (0) damage is done. You must use 0 delay. I asked Oleg about this, and he said it was due to the simplified nature of delayed bombs.

Would be great if a torpedoe to the center of a ship would 'break its back'
In other words, the impact of the torpedoe would split it in half and the two sides would sink independently.
Can do skip bombing in a bf109, didnt think it was possible in real life though...:S

Independent damage is modeled for turrets already. If you look closely at a ship thats been hit a few times by torps or bombs or guns, you'll notice some of the turrets have quit working.

It would be nice to say around june of this year to upgrade the ship models. They look real nice now,just the damage should be redone.
The ships should be made so what ever type of game format being played online ,single, coop ,dog that the ships can move.
Strafing a ship should kill or disable gun crews.
More types of AA 40mm, 127mm,1.1's with limited ammo.
Also AA with the different ship mounted gun mounts. Like 40mm with single , dual & quad mounts. The pom pom guns with 8 guns would be interesting to see in game.

Being able to carry different stuff on the ships. Troops, ammo , fuel ,guns. Would make missions more interesting & real.
Am thinking of Dunkirk, Crete and The Tokyo Express.
Maybe on the damage stuff, hits that effect fuel & ammo storage onboard the ships wold be nice.
Attacking the ships like mention, skip, high level, dive ,topedo, glide that could be implemented with Ai & player aircraft.
Just like convoys of trucks, maybe Task Forces of ships.
These are just some of the things I would like to see introduced in the use of ships.
