Hi Everyone,

I thought this might happen later rather than sooner but it has so here goes. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

As some of you shall know I setup an image gallery and upload site for the Lock On and IL2 communities.

http://www.world-data-systems.com/aerofiles

It has been an overwhelming success, acruing some ~500 pictures and 74 users in little over a month.

I recently upgraded the site to 7Gb per month bandwidth utilisation as you guys went over my original 3Gb limit.

I've just recieved this E-Mail from my ISP:

------------------
Dear Matthew

We have noticed that you have exceeded your bandwidth by the following:

Bandwidth Allowed: 7GB
Bandwidth used: 62.2GB

You have an outstanding balance of 420.00+VAT for the amount of bandwidth you have used, however we can upgrade you to allocate your bandwidth to 70GB per month for 99.00+VAT per month.

Could you call me in a matter of urgency to discuss this.

Regards,

Lisa Wilson
------------------

As you can see I face something of a dilemma. The crunch time has come, I either shut it down or upgrade the service to 70Gb per month. Now, as much as I love you guys, I'm not paying 117 per/month (including VAT) so we have two options:

1. Shut down, bye bye, nada, nowt, gone. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
2. You donate ala Gibbage style to PayPal. Basically, I just need to cover 117 per/month to keep it going * (assuming it doesn't go over 70Gb per/month). Of course the benefit of keeping it going is that we can make it truly 'ours' and do loads of cool stuff, plus it's a place to put your pics.

If you are interested my PayPal donation E-Mail address is: matt@world-data-systems.com

I hate having to do this but unfortunately I have no choice. Also, please accept my appologies for anyone who isn't aware of the upload and gallery site.

ta,
Matt.

Hi Bader,

Sorry to hear your news. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I would be happy to pay a little to cover your expenses since my Spit pics have contributed to your costs. However, I would not be happy to pay every month.

On top of that, I searched for PayPal on the internet so that I could make a donation and a load of warning sites appeared telling horror stories about PayPal (e.g. www.PayPalWarning.com (http://www.PayPalWarning.com)) , so I don't trust them. Is there an alternative?

Do you live in the UK?

BobTuck.

Thanks for the reply BobTuck. I completely understand your viewpoint and, to be quite honest, feel rather ashamed at having posted what I have. However, my rationale was that rather to simply turn it off, I would provide an option, at least that way I can't be blamed /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I do live in the UK and understand your concerns about PayPal. In the meantime I have upgraded to 70Gb/month but am on the hunt for ways of funding it or getting it hosted, I simply can't justify forking out 117 a month on a 'free' website, I wish I could.

ta,
Matt.

p.s. Please put your other Spitfire pictures and skins on there, I would love to see them.

That's a hell of a lot of money. If Gibbage's 'thankyou to donors' page is anything to go by, he hasn't exactly been inundated with donations. There's no way you'll cover your costs with donations.
You've got a great service going, and it would be a shame to see it go, but I can't think of a way to finance it at those kinds of rates. Unless someone has got some unmetered bandwidth going begging? But that's getting harder and harder to find these days.

i would ask that hosting company what kind of scam they are running.

if your limit is 7 gb, how were you able to exceed it? how can they offer a package limited to 7 gb if you can so easily go ever the limit?

scam. another crap hosting company.

as for the other fellows comments about paypal: go read that sites' forums. you'll find that the only people who are angry at paypal are the people who try to get one over on paypal.com. interestingly enough, thier forums are full of so-called-hackers and scam artists.

i've used paypal for two years with no issues what so ever.

Hi Bader,

If you want to email your address to me at:

nick@bushfa.datanet.co.uk

then I will happily send you a one-off cheque to help cover costs.

If you are OK with me continuing to post pics and skins on the site, then I will /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I have made an RAF WW2 pilots skin for use with FB, and I want to share it with others.

Thanks,

BobTuck.
