May you learn to play the harp.

Rex Kramer(Airplane, 1980): Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. It's a dumb question... skip it.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

I always enjoyed his music, and that beautiful smile, but I am always reminded of the wonderful Flip Wilson bit about Christopher Columbus not getting the financing from Queen Isabella until he tells her that he'll go to the New World and "...I'm gonna find Ray Charles."

For the rest of the bit, Isabella's only line is delivered with a snap of her fingers and the declaration that "Chris gonna find Ray Charles!" When Ray guested on Flip's TV show, they did that bit with Ray's appearance as the 'payoff.'

I'll miss him.

cheers

A great example of a person overcoming odds to excel. BTW, Dang horseback...The Flip Wilson show! Your going to confuse the youngsters.

Not being young I don't have a problem with sayin' how much I dug the man and his music, from seeing him the first time back in 1965 on Ready, steady, go.....the first hip music show to be produced in the UK. He was a real ambassador for the Blues, and a great artist.

Boogie on...

An odd memory of Ray Charles:

He was performing in Vancouver (back in the 80's) for the Variety Club Telethon and he stayed at the hotel I was working at - which was right on the harbour.
Don't laugh or scoff: his booking manager required a room with a harbour view for him.
Never figured that one out.
I unfortunately never got a chance to meet him while he was there.

He liked to listen to the sounds from the Harbor...........

He was on an Aretha Franklin Live alblum... Spirit in the Dark.... rocked the house. He spoke to once when I met him as a kid when my mom took me to Madison Square Garden to see Him, Nancy Wilson and Flip Wilson.

Sigh, I never got to see him live.

His "I can't stop loving you" is one of my absolute favourite tunes. His voice was amazing.
