ATI X800 pro is the fastest and has 256mb ram, or you could wait a few more months for the slighty more expensive ATI X800xt.

Hello...thanks for the update....I replied in a message you already wrote..but what is the comporable nvidia card with 256 megs in this arena? as I said...Ilike the nvidia as they are most often the benchmark for game makers in myhumble opinion..any thoughts? Do you or anyone have any experience on how this card works with the medal of honor series.....call of duty......Il2 and IL2 sturmovik forgotten battles......what about Panzer elite? another couple years old but yet terrific game? I dont want to get a card that lets me play sh3 at the expense of leaving myother games I like to play in the dust....last game series..what about the battlefield series? thanks

Actually ATI are now the leaders in graphics cards, that's why the new X-BOX with have an ATI chip. And games like IL2,Batt42 will play with 50% higher frame rates.

A good thing to do is to get BT-32 removeable harddrive cases so you can remove the harddrive and use some other one. I have winME on one drive for those kind of unsupported games or applications. I have XP(fully pacthed before going online) installed on my fastest drive. Often I only load only one game on my fastest drive (7200rpm) this way my maps load faster like in battlefield 1942 and always im player 0(zero) which means mostly I spawn first and nearest to prime locations like aircraft. Its also good to have removeable drives for people who have kids and wives and only one PC to share. They screw up their drive while your drive is safe. (never know where they surf). This keeps your operating system safe. Its a good idea to not ever surf with your gaming drive. I use a laptop for that. I network between the drives and download from my laptop. Let the laptop take the hits from spyware and not your gaming drive. Most too often people have spyware installed and dont even know it. this is because hackers use exploits within XP to install their spyware. Use spuhunter and see what I mean. I had 150 spyware keys within my registry and also it checked my drive for where these tiny(and i mean tiny! 15-45 byte files) which lagged the **** out of my gaming. I task manager view my system often and check the running processes to see if there is any bogus programs running. If it is and I suspect lag its usually my operating system that is infected and so I try and delete it in the registry and also the file associated with it in C:\windows\system32 where these usually hide. I will write more on this later. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Check out the For you Benchmarking Fans 6800U v x800XT (http://www.forumplanet.com/planethardware/topic.asp?fid=3710&tid=1394484)thread over at Hardware Planet. You will see that both cards are pretty much equal.

Specs:

Vid Card---- NV38---NV40---R360---R420
Transistors--130M---222M---110M---160M
Core clock--475MHz-400MHz-412MHz-500MHz
Mem clock --950MHz-1.1GHz-900MHz-1.12GHz
Memory Bus--256bit-256bit-256bit-256bit
Vertex Pipelines-~4-6------4-------6
Pixel Pipelines--4x2-16x1--8x1----16x1
Shader Model--2.0+---3.0---2.0----2.0+
Fab Process--130nm--130nm--150nm--130nm

Clock speeds on the ATI are faster for the core, but are just above the memory of the GF 6800. The 6800 preforms better with OpenGL games compared to the ATI cards, but for the most part are even as they were with the last generation of cards.

TAsk force..thanks for the help...please help somewhat of a computer illeterate..Im not a newbie....but basically you are saying is to install TWO hard drives.....one with my old windows ME and the other with say windows xp...and use that for the newer games that need different configs? But..of course....I will STILL be running the same graphics card..and there in I believe lies the problem..if I go ati...it is not supported with Me..however..the Nvidia 6800 will work on the ME..now..the question is one then of driver....and if the older games...Mohaa...call of duty.etc..will work with those drivers.....SOME games like Panzer elite require the older geforce detonator drivers 45 series.....so its pretty much a toss up....I read that the ati 800 is pretty well same results as the 6800..I've also read the nvidea 5900 was chalked with problems..and then they went to the 5950 which seemed to solve all the problems...the 6800 card is mega expensive right now.as its the latest....but I dont mind spending the extra do re me as LONG as it will work with my ME ..which it will..and still allow me to play MOST games.......

ingsoc41 your \\'elcome and no problem-glad to help. With the prices of the 6800,if you can wait, best to get it after the new year because always the prices drastically drop. With the 2 hard drives I mean you can have one in a removeable tray and the other in another removeable tray. I'm lucky to have the luxary of many drives. I can take one of them and just install a fresh copy of windows on it. I nedt load all the patches,anti-spyware,firewalls like black ice and zone alarm. I install a game say like Battlefield Vietnam and patch that too as required. When I join a game and play all is well. My ping is low and everything seeems fluid. Now if I get hit by spyware from other peoples pc, my pc wont slow down. It just gets blocked by either my Firewall,or spywareblaster,or registry firewall. Most peoples problems with their windows operating systems are with registry resident spyware that they are unaware of because it doesnt get tray'ed or taskbared like other programs. Only way to know is to use task manager and see the processes.(thats the programs thats running currently in memory.). If you got spyware unknowingly installed the best way to get rid of it is Adware or spyhunter. These programs can find spyware and remove them. Of course I take the cheep way out and remove it manually with regedit since they are so kind to tell me what registry key some of these spywares are hiding in. Usually Spyware gets loaded up in the registry folder called Run or RunOnce. Check it out. Hope I help ya. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
