Both were 'letting me know' that they seem to be flying over the Gulf of Finland and not The Channel. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

They were serious too! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

Congratulation, Extreme_one, your BoB campaign
is just great !!!

I'm just working on this campaign, making the
missons flyable for the german side, which is
very interesting too. Escape with the He-111
recce plane or go into a dogfight with the
Hurris in your Ju-87.

Thanks!

Re-doing it from the German perspective sounds real interesting!
Let me have a link when it's done won't you?

Where are the Germans taking-off from? Are the missions mainly air-start?

I understand, I get it now... you chose to use Finland because there isn't an actual map for England! How stupid I feel in retrospect...

I still just can't figure out where those Germans are flying from though. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

I greatly enjoyed the first three missions. I'm flying with all aids turned off, including the HUD. On the second mission I just couldn't find the Dakota. I even exited, looked in the FMB for altitude (shoddy briefing, no alt info http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) and tried again, but no go. I followed the waypoints from memory, then tried to beat him to the Isle of Wight and cut him off, then again at the city. No joy. So I went in to land and got my request for landing rejected... he was landing right in front of me! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm quite a way into it, around Sept 7th or 15th. It's excellent. Toughest mission for me so far was escorting the four C47's in the filthiest of weather. One slip up, and you lose them...for good!

The disorientation of being in bad weather, with no horizon is very realistic. You think your plane is flying in crazy attitudes, and have to force yourself to believe what your instruments are telling you.

When the attack came, I lost the others in the melee, and was flying around trying to regain contact when, BLAM! I was hit from behind, and had to bail out. Never saw him.

Full real settings except external views enabled though, for visual enjoyment of the planes and scenery when cruising along.

Also, having to navigate properly is excellent.

Wonderful work, sir.

If I had all the money I'd spent on drink..I'd spend it on drink!

It's because of stuff like this that I don't feel bad about using map icons. Sure it's realistic to get lost and have a totally fruitless mission, but life's too short. Anyway. I reckon the _occasional_ look a the map only simulates getting a vector from ground control using that new-fangled RDF box of tricks.

Sounds a bit like my mission. I knock down the target, go home, taxi to dispersal, knock off the engine and am just stretching and enjoying the silence - when the target tug ambles down onto the runway by my side. It was just ... cool.

I've learnt SO MUCH from working on this campaign.

Lot's of respect to Poymando who was great to work with!

Also to you guys for playing it and coming back with the critique which is absolutly essential if I'm to progress as a mission-builder.

Good point Michapma about the 'lousy brifings'
I can assure you that I've learnt though and from now on my brifings will be far more informative.

The main map on the briefing screen should have given you some clues though?

I was able to memorize the waypoints from the briefing map, but there was no info about altitude available. In this case it was a problem of finding a moving target. I didn't know how fast to fly, and worst of all there were clouds. I had to stay very busy comparing the islands to my map to make sure I was in the right area, and at the same time scan for the aircraft. Without the clouds I might very well have found it. It was a challenge, and looking for the plane and trying to guess its position was more of a challenge and as much fun as finding it and shooting it down. Well, almost, I don't get to shoot at gliders very much without trying to hit the tower. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

As I am only three missions in, I might start the campaign over with the option turned off that requires me to successfully complete the mission parameters. I can essentially do that without losing much time, just use autopilot and 8x to refly the missions I've already done.

Flying with no text on the screen (no icons, no map icons, no speedbar, no HUD) makes the most routine or boring missions a challenge. I have to guesstimate my heading by looking at the compass behind the stick. I can look at the tickmarks where they meet the stick to maintain a heading. I'm learning how to guess the throttle setting from the boost pressure gauge, rpms are easy, and overheating is extremely easy, since it corresponds to precise oil and coolant temperatures. We'll have to see how it goes in combat, I'm sure to kill my engine a few times, but that surely happened.

When the settings call for it, I've also even been keeping the view width zoomed back a couple degrees from gunsight view. This really adds to the feel of being in a cockpit, the prop looks huge hanging off the front of your aircraft. The cockpit items are nearly life-size. It's only really very doable with TrackIR (or a similar viewing system). I'm sure I won't hesitate to abandon it for combat.

Having a blast! Thanks you guys for the work you put into the campaign. I wanted to make a P-40 campaign, but I can't make the missions very quickly or realistically, and don't have as much imagination. As long as there are guys like you making them, I'll stick to my other projects. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I too have started the campaign, and I'm really enjoying it. I just finished mission three, and I like the way that I'm slowly being pulled into the fighting, from training to combat. Nicely done.

I give it a 9 out of 10. You would have gotten a ten out of ten, but you tricked us with that Finland map thing. LOL. j/k.

Absolutely a 10/10!
