I have been making more COOP missions of late but lack the necissary information to put the right squadrons with the right markings and skins in the right missions. I am especially interested in THEATRE Bands. You know the Yellow/Red/WHite defense of the Reich etc Bands.

Can anybody proveide me with enough information on the standard camoflage schemes and markings for both German and Allied on

WEst Front
Battle of France
BOB
Early Rhubarb raids over the channel
Defense of the Reich

East Front
Early
Middle
Late
Defense of the Reich

Not as concerned about the Med and North African or Pacific markings ATM

hope as usual this forums community is as knowledgeable as it has been in the past..

I would recommend you spend some time looking at all the wonderful skins at www.il2skins.com (http://www.il2skins.com).
Almost anything you could possibly want is available there, and most of the authors that have posted their work have provided screenshots for you to look at.

All the best, Don

I was hoping somebody had a guide they could point me too

THeatre bands
Theatre colours according to year fighter and airforce

Thats all I'm asking. Nothing special just the standard stuff.

Looking through Il2Skins will be a hit and miss affair, a skin may be used but may not be common etc

I probably won't be able to add much here: il2skins does have a LOT of great stuff on it (i.e. plane/jg/front/pilot info), so it's worth checking out.

What I know:
RAF - White/Sky fuselage band applied in 1940-1941. Lasts until early 1945. Invasion stripes are applied from June 4 and last for a few months. Some planes are repainted but leave the stripes on the bottom in various combinations. RAF moves from green/brown to Green/grey camoflage in 1941. Different roundrels with less white and yellow also appear that around then.

LW:
Eastern front band - yellow 1941-44(?)
Med front band - white (some had white tails & wingtips)

Might I point out that if you need a coloured band to tell you if you're in Russia or Tunisia....

Defense of the Reich 1943 - white rudder or tail.
Defense of the Reich 1944 (post d-day) - fuselage bands of varying sizes:

jg1 red
jg2 white
jg4 blk/white/blk
jg5 blk/yellow
jg11 yellow
jg51 grn/white/grn
jg52 red/white
jg53 blk
jg77 white/grn
jg300 blue/white/blue

Late Spring - bands also appear aft of the spinner. No one knows exactly why. Colours were red, yellow, grn & white. No luftwaffe documents exist to explain all this.

This link might be of use too: http://www.jpsmodell.de/dc/luft_e.htm

Camouflage and markings of WW2 aircraft is a fairly complex and often controversial subject, be warned...

Good luck!

I've put some of my Battle of France skins together on my site.
Cpt. Farrel also made some Battle of France and Battle of Brittain skins and on il2skins.com there are also many skins available.

Just play with the filters for aircraft and markings to narrow down to the ones you are looking for.

Maybe I need to make a basic guide so people making historic missions do not screw up.

With all the skins about, once you have donwloaded them and put them in your Il2 directory you do not have a clue where they fit in

Try geting a copy or browse through the "Jagdwaffe" series of publications on Luftwaffe colours. I've seen a similar publication on US ETO aircraft as well. Suspect you may need to look a publications for each type of aircraft. There is also an excelent French series of books on the Bf109, Ju87 & P40, which show colour schemes, markings and roughly when they ocurred. e.g. for Bf109's - the RLM colours for the Condor Legion, Prewar, Poland & Phoney, France, BOB, etc. Don't forget to grab the Hungarian colour scheme for the Buffaloe. Close enough to makes a good Heja (Re.2000) for the Hungarians to use in 1941 Barbarrosa.
