Just a thought, could TIR be made to pick that up?
Whith BOB giving us moveable head positions in cockpit this would be a great combination.

I doubt it would be poss with just one unit.
Perhaps with two in conjunction it would be.

I went through the scenario in my head a little while back and the more you think about it the more complex it gets.

Lateral head movement is viewed in exactly the same fashion as circular head movement by the device so it can't be differentiated - sadly.

It would work if you had two dots next to eachother spaced out a little. Although the geometry would technicaly work, i dont think it could be done with the existing hardware as the fine measurements needed would probably not be achievable with trackir2.

Something for the future, perhaps a trackir3? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Wear a gyro on your head, there you go.

Something for the Naturalpoint boys to work on, I think.

I have a TIR2 and have been giving lateral head movement some thought. I think there is a way by using your hat to move your head position like a snap view. Pushing the hat would move your head 4-8 inches in a flat plane. Enough for you to maintain eye contact on your target if it disapears behind a canopy support. Currently I like many others I'm sure, turn or rotate the plane to maintain or regain visual on targets blocked by canopy supports. The hat switch snap head shift would work with TIR2, mouse view, or padlock. Horizontal plane head movement is not currently supported by FB but could be added as a patch (hint, hint) then mapped to your hat.

I saw someone link to CyMouse a while ago in these forums, if it was software supported, and worked like they say, I'd probably buy something like this.

So let me get this straight, all this talk about how great TrackIR is and it cant even do lateral movements!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Forget that Im sticking with my hat switch.

Are you joking or do you not understand what lateral head movements are?

I'll assume the latter and say that they're not talking about looking from left to right, they want to be able to move the position of the head relative to the sides of the plane. In other words, they want to be able to nudge up against the canopy for a better view. To my knowledge, such movements aren't even possible in FB, hatswitch or otherwise.
