I've been using 1024x768 32-bit anti-aliased until recently when i saw some community made training tracks where the pilot appeared to know where the bogey was when I myself (viewing the track) couldn't see a dot. I switched to 640x480 with anti-aliasing off, and lo and behold, the dots are sharper and easier to see. Or could it be just my imagination?

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

21-inch monitor so;

1600x1200 4xAA, 4xAF offline.

1600x1200 2xAA, 2xAA online.

I've always wondered if the higher resolution or AA/AF makes it harder to see enemy planes in the distance, but I can't give up my pretty picture long enough to tell.

Might be a dumb question here Kyrule, especially considering I work in the IT industry, but how did you get your resolution that high?

I'm stuck at 1280x960x32, running on a Ti4600 and an 18" flatpanel which supports 1600x1220 desktop resolution. I've never been able to change my FB to anything higher than 1280.

1024x768, and yes lower resolutions are easier to see the dots in.

I actually fly 800x600, even though I can fly higher cos online I can spot aircraft better. Problem is it don`t look as fine, but it`s worth it to for SA.

Zen, I'm not too good with the technical stuff http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif but my video card (9800Pro) and my monitor (ViewSonic) both support 1600x1200 and higher. My monitor is standard, meaning not a flat-screen.

It must be a flat-panel thing.

ZEN - Your problem is the flat panel. As you may have noticed, LCD screens are designed to run at a specific resolution, typically either 1280x1024 or 1024x768 for 18" monitors. When you deviate from these values, the results vary from decent (KDS) to useless mush (NEC). You're probably hitting the maximum resolution for your monitor - for more info refer to your manual.

1024 x 768 is a little shaggy on my 21" flat screen (not flat panel) and I've flown 1600 x 1200 without a significant hit in performance (Radeon 9800 card). But the lower res still lets me see/recognize planes, and then I don't have to reset resolution for my non-imaging activities when I leave the game. So I fly most of the time with lower res settings.

1280 x 960 for QMB
1152 x 864 for online play as some maps make my frames drop too much.

Dots are easier to see at a lower res. but I can recognise an airplanes silouhette better at higher resolutions and read his markings which helps on FR servers even with ones with limited friendly icons as I can make out a 109 from further away before I chase him for 10 minutes to realise he is a friendly.

Hi,

800x600x32, no AA, online or offline.

It's the only way to get 40+ fps out of my ageing rig.

Cheers,
Norris
