Hehe, had to start this thread! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

So, what's with the Russian Game-developers?
Anyone remember Tetris?
Game that caused terrible addiction?
I remember playing Tetris on my fathers laptop at our summer-cottage for few days when I had angina, after that it took me few days to not to think about falling bricks. This was many years ago.

Ok, now with IL-2 "series", for the last few weeks it's about the only thing in my mind, surfing all possible pages about WW2 aircrafts etc. My GF starts to get angry... I would say that I'm addicted to this great game...

Oleg: So what's the secret with Russian games? Do you have some "department" that adds addictive components to all games?
Yep, that must be it, that is why you always say "Nope, not a bug, that 'we' will not fix".
'we' is _THE_THING_ http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
So those things are the "addictive" part of this game and you are not allowed to change those...
After the cold-war, it might even be FBI or CIA that forces those addictive parts in the game for reasons unknown to the community http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Yep, OfP guys are in the same conspiracy of making addictive games... They are from Prague / Czech.

Wonder if Finnish developers are in the mix also... 3DMarks and stuff...

Sure. And what about Rally trophy? Easily the best FM for any rallying simulation.

I thought about this, and without wanting to provocate anyone I think it all comes down to politics here also. The 'capitalist pigs' seeking huge instant profits with the low life span games for the masses, selling them with incredible rendered screenshots and tv-ads, while the developers/publishers from the leftwing countries have a completely different approach. They want to make something great for a targeted segment, not trying get to everybodys wallet by some ****ed up compromise.

Lets face it, making a great simulation doesnt pay it too well. On the other hand, If there would be a way to calculate all the hardware investments people have made just for IL2 family, the Maddox team should have a percentage of those, being the source that makes people update their computers. That would be millions. Millions directed to guarantee further development of a legend (instead of making profits solely to the HW industry). But yeah, that justice will only happen in a perfect world.

Bottom lines:
- Small publishers/devteams usually have the most passionate attitude to their work.
- Maddox has made more money to harware industry than to himself.
- I need to buy "avoiding double posting for dummies"

Good points leech.

I also think that game developers from outside the US/Western Europe might have a much "fresher" and more imaginative approach to creating games.
Sometimes too much money does not help creating masterpieces, but quite the contrary...

Look at CFS3.

I agree with you. The way Oleg and his team kept on working on their game and the fact that Oleg tries to stay in contact with the community is another proof for that, i think. Maybe the difference is that you have some ppl who are interrested in the game and aviation and made a product to please themselves as well. Not like MS where you have a bunch of programmers who are told that they have to make a new flightsim which will be released at a certain time and they just do their job and next month they'll be ordered to make an RPG and so on.... just my guess.

So long.We wish you well.
You told us how you weren't afraid to die.
Well then, so long.Don't cry.

Leech , you seem to have taken my thoughts exactly , and saved me the time to have to post it myself.
Most of the upgrades I have or will make to my
pc are to increase fps ,detail ,
"immersion" or sound for the Il-2 series.

So as far as I see it , Il-2 is why I upgrade.

Why else would I want too upgrade my 118Hz flat 17" monitor to a flat 21" monitor? It certainly wouldn't be to increase office productivity !
The same goes for my sblive! souncard or KT333 mobo ,
fine parts for everyday computing , but for this game I will not compromise.

This series is why I got the upgrade bug.

It's from Tool. Song's called Eulogy. Here you have the whole one http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Eulogy

He had alot to say.
He had alot of nothing to say.
We'll miss him.

So long.
We wish you well.
You told us how you weren't afraid to die.
Well then, so long.
Don't cry.
Or feel too down.
Not all martyrs see divinity.
But at least you tried.

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud.
We'll miss him.
Ranting and pointing his finger
At everything but his heart.
We'll miss him.

No way to recall
What it was that you had said to me,
Like I care at all.

So loud.
You sure could yell.
You took a stand on every little thing
And so loud.

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice so strong and loud and I
Swallowed his facade cuz I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, with
Someone who would die for me.

Will you? Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you f***in lie.

Don't you step out of line.
Don't you f***in lie.

You've claimed all this time that you would die for me.
Why then are you so surprised to hear your own eulogy?

You had alot to say.
You had alot of nothing to say.

Come down.
Get off your f***in cross.
We need the f***in space to nail the next fool martyr.

To ascend you must die.
You must be crucified
For your sins and your lies. [sic]
Goodbye...
