View Full Version : La-7 is undermodeled

In AEP the La-7 is listed as going only 610km/h at sea level, however according to the memoirs of a number of russian pilots the La-7 could easily do over 640km/h at sea level. It is also well known that the La-7 could outclimb the Bf-109K4 and outturn the B-239. It was also virtually impossible to stall unlike in AEP. While the La-5 and La-7 were not as tough as their predecessor, the LaGG-3, they were still virtually immune to anything smaller than a 30mm cannon. This is not the case in AEP though. I am tired of Oleg giving into the luftwhiners and nerfing the russian planes and realism in the interest of fairness.

Thats a new one. The La-7 is undermodelled http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But seriously, did you try the speeds and climbs ingame? Do you have numbers for these claims?

As far as I can tell, it already outclimbs the K4, turns as good, if not better than B-239 (its a strange claim), and is virtually impossible to stall.

I don't know about the durability, as it is somewhat weaker than the LaGG-3, but I can't think of a reason it should be any better. Unless they managed to put a few hundred kilos of armor on without anyone noticing.

Maybe you should tell Oleg to change the durablility of the La-7 to "virtually immune", and he will get right on it.

Kozhedub said 700 km/h at sea level severe undermodeled ?

High Ground is not only more agreeable and salubrious, but more convenient from a military point of view; low ground is not only damp and unhealthy, but also disadvantageous for fighting.

Just to make sure if Oleg happens to read this ( I sure don't want LA-7 to get any extra perfomance http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif)

It is the fastest plane at sea level in this game, impossible to stall, climbs like maniac ( outclimbs K-4 below 3000 meters), very powerfull weapons.. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif to me its king of the hill below 3000 m ..

Seriously, it's 20km/h too slow at 2000m. But it's some 25km/h too fast at 6000m. It's speeds should be like:

Altitude speed 100%/Forsazh
0m 560-570/600-610
2000m 600-610/650-660
3500m 630-640
6000m 655-665

At 2000m it has it's peak performace with Forsazh boost. It has a very high speed there which makes it that dangerous at these altitudes. In FB it's rather it's overmodelled climb than this speed. It barely reaches 630 at 2000m, but it climbs almost 30m/s. With relatively thin propeller blades it's optimized for high speeds (high drag) where a wide propeller blade grants better low speed and high altitude (low drag) performace. That's also why it climbs poorly compared to a 109K-4 for instance. It's peak lies at 23-24,5m/s on the deck with boost while a K-4 can climb somewhere between 26-30m/s on the deck. Notice how other low speed crates like the I-16 can have a very good climb rate at low speeds, but they lack engine power for high altitudes. US planes weren't fitted with wider paddle blade props for better high alt performace. Even the FW-190A-9 gained quite much in climb performace due to it's wider propeller and the D-9 was also a better climber than an A-8 with similar power/weight ratios.

Mmmm, I don't know if it's undermodeled, but La-7's seat is very uncomfortable. It is breaking my back! Oleg, fix it -a thick feather cushion will make it! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Yes, I agree. In fact LA7 wings are made from finest Chinese paper (of course strenghtened). Yesterday I was testing diving abilities of LA7 just to found that not only my wings fell of on dive speeds that Emil could handle easily, but also set my fuel tanks on fire (on remaining cripled wings) so I didn't stand chance to bail out safely.

Just try it. It is fun to watch diving LA7 on 750+ low alt http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/93.gif

you can push the La7 to 780kph in a dive before it breaks up,sorry but for low alt that sounds realistic to me
and im not sure an Emil can go 780 in a dive at low alt

But it's true. The LA7 in FB is ACTUALLY 0.50 cal... err km/h slower than in the real life.

or was it 0.303?
20mm/h?
30mm/h?

anybody?

Willey this Data with Serial numbers i did already send a time ago answer was 688 km/h average VVS values production aircraft at 6000 m. Even when my Data have all in average 660 km/h and most other serial and pre serial production have that too. There must be a lot very fast LA7 about 690+ to make up for that Stats .)

The numbers I've looked up on the La-7 support that the one in the game is relatively realistic within reason and that its certainly not overmodeled but its almost definately not undermodeled either. It probably climbs a little too good but its not bad all around.

Since 1.0, its been worked on quit a bit. Its still a nasty customer...easily the best dogfighting fighter in the late war time period but it shouldn't see a boost or a decline in its current stats. Its not quite well where it should be.

You guys do not believe me? I take offence now.

I have a friend who's name is Emil and I was reffering to him. He is crazy. I was told him that it is not realistic to jump from A/C and exceede 750-800 kmh 'cause in IL-2 LA7 can't do that and that is the most ├╝ber plane in-game. Also I told him that his arms would fell off on that speed.

He did not believe me and he jumped. Well I will not tell u what happened then. Just recheck the Guiness World record page on net.

The wings are supposed to fall off to lessen
the drag at those very high speeds.Sort of early
swing wing but due to rushed production the problem of returning to slower speeds hadn't been solved in the early models and the pilots are supposed to extend their arms out of the cockpit
as the speed decreases to regain level flight. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

Early in 44, They replaced the delta wood with a secret early version of Carbon Fibre, bringing the overall weight of the LA-7 to just about 140kgs!! Thus, at 800kph+ an actual rip in time is created around the plane, and since only the fusalage is time-warp protected, the wings fall off. Pilots had to wear special polka-dotted teflon-coated spandex suits to be able to bail out in hyperspace and safely re-enter normal time.

WOLFMondo
07-19-2004, 03:14 AM
Theres no time warping, Its the warp naceles underneath the seat that make is so uncomfortable but the warp field only covers the fuselage.
