View Full Version : Why no beta patch discussion here?

Why is beta patch discussion banned from these boards?
There is a 15 page thread over at simhq where both Ian Boys and Oleg himself have participated and thanked the cummunity (not only official beta testers) for the bug reporting.

No flame or whining, just a friendly question.

I understand that maybee you mods dont set the rules here regarding this, in that case it's a question to the community manager.

The beta is not open and is subject to an NDA. The results of breaking an NDA aren't encouraged.

There is also the fact that expectations raised (both good & bad) by the leaked version will not be met by the official release as further changes will have been made. The developers/publishers are understandably keen not to have inaccurate expectations raised on the official IL2 forums where they may be seen to carry the authority of the developers.

Ubi quite rightly don't want to encourage any people who leak or have a non-official copy of the beta, which is why we kept it off the Ubi boards.

The SimHQ effort, which has been very successful, was an attempt to at least get something positive out of what was becoming a chaotic situation. It was appropriate to do it there rather than here.

I agree with what you are saying and i never bothered with it in the first place, but isnt this a bit like shutting the gate after the horse has left? if it had been said about a month ago or something added to the top of the pages to infer that, then it would have got rid of a lot of the anamosity and ill feeling the locking of posts without a by your leave was causing.....Still hope Ubi learn from it , but i will hold my breath on that one.

Agreed! But why is this the case with the ubi board? Why is ubi board not allowed to be like simhq board?

I am thinking the serial moderators don't have permission or power to really manage this board properly. The ubi "locks" are a joke. A good basic thread or post Delete, without comment, is a Wonderful thing.

Because UBI assumes a liability while Sim HQ does not.....as a producer of the Sim a certain amount of liabilty arises from allowing speculative comments be said of an ongoing process by those not officially 'allowed' the product. This could create a false statement that someone may consider liable to UBI. UBI is correct in their actions and Sim HQ not having to assume any liabilty for the discussion is correct to allow it if it chooses to. Quite simply put UBI does not allow any conversation on the patch when it is beta related unless by an official source. UBI does not also allow talks of the NO CD crack.. Why you may ask is it to a certain extent it promotes software piracy...to you it may seem a simple fix for the CD reading issue on CD/RW drives due to safedisc 2 incompatability to many CD drives...to a software company it promotes piracy.....

my personal feeling is that while discussion on simhq may well have been civil .. a discussion of the patch here would very quickly have degenerated into whining complaints and accusations of developer bias

Very true. I read the simhq thread from start to finish and thatr thread is a great example on how things like this are supposed to be discussed. Civil tone, friendly replies and constructive. As for keeping the patch discussion off the ubi boards, seems like a good idea as long as there isn't an open beta.

Thx for replying Ian.

What a load of ballocks. What a load of self-serving, self-righteous, pompous-*** ballocks. Did I mention hypocritical? That too.

How predictable you people are. The alleged moderators, I mean, and the Ubi Moonie suckups. Not the other forum users. Although most of you are predictable too, but usually in less boring ways.

However, I do thank you sincerely for the warning that the official patch may not be as good as the beta. I suspected as much already, but it's valuable to have official confirmation.

Looks as if I'd better hang onto that zipped copy of Beta 8, just in case....

unfortunately it probably will not work as firstly its date locked (though you can get around that) but secondly beta's are usually coded to prevent them connecting with full release patched servers online so you will only be able to connect to other patch users
