I've never seen this before, thought some of you might be amused. I didn't know they existed.

Ahh... the ever windmilling rotor, just like the windmill:P Interesting idea but rarely mentioned. I wonder what the drawback is that autogyroes don't get further developed? Or maybe there are modern autogyroes, which I'm not aware of?

There are 100's flying, all around the world, mostly homebuilt. Surely you've seen Little Nellie in "You only Live Twice"?

Hmm I think I recognise that autogyro arcadeace. It looks like the autogyro that's currently residing at the RAF Museum, Hendon. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Great things these gyrocopters http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The rotor provides the lift - I even think it turns from itself (unpowered), effectively giving a Huge wing area http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nothing secret about it though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif its even a commercial type - they were cheap too...

A good read about helicopter/auto-giro/airplanes :

A modern one:
