View Full Version : Two questions about Saitex x45

Hi,

I'm currently using the mouse for viewing and a Saitek Cyborg joystick. I'm fairly comfortable using the mouse for viewing and cannot consider the Hat button for snap/pan view.

I plan to buy the x45. I will use the throttle only, as the x45 stick is for users with monster hands. However, is this possible? Will the old Cyborg stick work as the main stick with the throttle set?

Secondly, how well does the little mouse button work on the x45 throttle? Can I use it for viewing just like I use the mouse? Any inputs regarding this are most welcome.

Thanks,
The Mig Pimp

1. yes, I use a MSFFB2 as my main stick.

2. The throttle mouse works very well.

I'm not sure what you mean by a moster of a hand but this is mine and I use the x-45 with no problems.

I dont think my hands are monster, and they work fine with the X-45. As for the hat switches, you can set any of the ones on the thottle or stick to emulate a mouse. For me I have the main hat on the stick used as the mouse view when the stick is shifted (pinkie trigger acts as shift key to double possible commands) and snap view when it is unshifted. This way I can easily pan my view smoothly, or snap it quickly with the same finger.

You can use the X45 in conjunction with any other stick in FB. You can use the X45 stick strictly as a button bay like i do... the mouse pan works great and after time is almost as good if not just as good as TIR.

Thanks for your replies!

T.O.A.D I'm not American, so the dollar bill gives me no clue to your hand size. However, your hairy wrists suggests that they are more "werewolf" than "monster" ;-) I put my hands on the x45 set in a store, and I could barely reach the top buttons on the stick. Guess I have small hands.

Ibhskier, how do you set up the hat button to get the mouse view? Is this what this "New view" is supposed to do?

Again, thanks mates,

Mig Pimp

The SST profiling software that comes with the X-45 includes the option to set any hat on the stick to mouse emulation. Make sure you check Saitek's site to ensure you have the latest version! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The dollar bill is about 10 inches long so Toad's hands are about the same size as a 15" monitor screen, i.e. perfect size for X45 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I have a pretty much average size hand, but not too long fingers and I have to confess that I sometimes have slight problems getting a comfortable grip on my X45 - I namely have to adjust my left hand a bit when operating the rudder rocker and/or my right hand when using the upper hat/buttons on the stick. I'm currently contemplating about using just the throttle handle and some twist joystick like Microsoft Precision Pro to help with these small annoyances...

Hi!
You don´t need big hands for using the X-45, one hat on top of the stick is hard to reach, but I haven´t programmed any combatneedtogetfastfunctions on that hat.
The mouse cursor control is great for panning the view with. I even use the rudder in the throttle, it´s sometimes hard to reach when you have full gas on. I´ve heard that some people have inverted the throttle for easier reach. The X-45 is quite stiff in the beginning but will soften at time.

I think the X45 is great, it´s cheap for what you get and it´s easy to program. Just go buy it!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Actually now that I am at home the Dollar bill is 6 1/8 inches long and 2 1/8 inches wide. That translates to. 15.5575 Centimeters longand 5.3975 wide.

I was at work earlier and did't have time to do more so I thought a picture would be worth a thousands words. Guess not http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I use the pinkie switch for bombs, andtorpedos
Index finger is machine guns, next finger is cannons.

Well the Werewolf may have something, I work nights and sleep during the day hehehehe

Here is how it fits after a slight mod.

My hands are small, and I can reach those buttons.

Set the joystick lower than the throttle, so you can reach the top of the stick.

I never use the button at the bottom of the switch (placed for the little finger) - that's not comfortable for my hands.

It's meant to be a shift-button, but I've yet to run out of functions on the throttle.

After seeing Toads hands, I guess I have monster hands. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif The X-45 fits my hands perfectly(And now that I have seen a reference I guess I have mutant hands or something)

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Odd grip, TOAD, I rest my pinkie on the bottom button and use my index for Trigger and Fire C.

Yep I do it that way so I can only shoot machine guns or cannons seperatly. and be able to reach the top hat button I use it for zoom normal wide and shift f1 views. The bottom hat is forawad for TIR center and back for f3 flyby when in open pit rooms and left ant right for fuel mixture. I have word doc of my settings but I've made a few tweaks since then I need to update it. x-45 settings (http://home.mchsi.com/~131st___vfw/Toads_X-45.doc)

I just bought an X45. For two years now I've had the 3D Gold but time and wear has got the best of it. After installing the X45 I found it wasn't very good. The left hand control is way too small for my hands. The rudder control is no different than using the arrow keys, full left or full right. I'm sure people with small hands will have a better time with it. Trust me, the X45 was not designed for large hands or even average. It is very easy to use the X45 and the 3D Gold together. If you use the mouse to look around, don't change. The hats are no better than the 3D Gold and I would even say worse. Tomorrow I will buy a new 3D to go with my X45. If you are using XP OS just plug them in, no need for driver installation. Together the X45 and 3D Gold will give you a lot of options, but alone I really don't like the X45. All 4 hats are bad, the z-axis is to difficult to use, and both the left hand and the stick or much too small for my hands. Just leave the X45 stick somewhere out of the way. You must connect it to use the left hand control. That's just my experience. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif I should have read the rest of the replies before making mine http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif. My hands overlap the left side of the left controller and my fingers are compressed together so I can't use the rudder controls. My right hand is compressed inside the right control and I had to disable the pinkie trigger(actually considered removing it). All the buttons and hats are easy to reach. Either I bought the preschool version or I'm invading the "smurf's" thread http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif I'm lost on this one guyz http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif
