Hi there GH_Aufpassen!

I had a look at your "Bf-109F-4 kills four B-17 aces"-track and enjoyed it a lot. So much in fact that I have been flying a similar quick-mission all day! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

I couldn't do it with the F-4 and had to use a Bf-109K w/ gunpods instead. And, as you will see, I used a somewhat alternative method to destroy the last B-17. You didn't quite get no. 4 in your track, but I think you'll agree that I got him just fine! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Look at the track with "manual view control" turned OFF, to see my TrackIR2 in action... - I am still a bit away from your smooth style, but I'm practising.

(New and better hosting, no bandwidth problems now)

Any comments by you or others is very welcome!

(It would be especially fun if people would tell how they did in this mission, or even post their ntracks!)

The mission is an ordinary quick-mission: Bf-109K w/pods versus four B-17 aces, default skins, 3000 m., Moscow winter map, realistic settings of course.

That was some very good stooting !!
Congratulations on your technique , I learned from it .

And the "landing" of the last B17 ... what can I say .
Perhaps the lesson here is : "always circle the field before you land" :-)

Very entertaining track.
thanks for sharing

Whats in the sig? A warning about setting gun convergances and the idiocy of walking in front of the 109? LOL

Not a bad attempt, however here is a track showing how to do it properly. Pardon my cockiness.

Hi Serge, thx for the nice comments, yeah, the final kill is somewhat unorthodox, but if he really INSISTS on landing there... - I knew that from earlier attempts at the same mission.

Hawgdog, in German the sign literally says "Stop! Shooting with live rounds. Mortal danger"

dreyer, I'm going to have a look at your track now. Let's see if your cockiness is warranted... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I already made another track, which I'm in the process of uploading.

If other people want to have a go at this mission they're very welcome! Let's see your results! (and grade them for artistic value, effectiveness, etc... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif )

well, well, norsk beskedenhed eller hva'?

Ok, I made it, properly shooting down the Forts in a 109K w/ gunpods. Track is here:
("Right-click, save as")
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/delfin/SD/2001/flight/il-2/AEP.2.04.109K.kills.4.B-17.Aces,lands.TIR2.Manual.view.OFF.ntrk

I made the four kills a tiny bit faster than you dreyer, but got plane damage (windscreen) whereas you seemed untouched.

At 12.15 minutes you almost collide with a fort. I think A.fokkers advice is very good: try to attack so that the target appears from the left. That way there'll be more "windscreen space" for looking at the target before it enters the gunsight.

I like your calm flying style, I guess it is necessary when you use hat-viewing. You really have that down to an artform, but DO get TrackIR, it is so much better! (even if it looks a bit chaotic in the tracks it feels just fantastic).

The head-on approaches seem more deadly, but take longer to set up. I'll investigate them now that I'm moving on to the next challenge: a Bf-109F-4 against the four Ace B-17's!

For other people who want to take the challenge: here's the 109K-mission:

And here's the "next level", a Bf-109F-4 against the four bombers:

Let's see some tracks from everybody out there! - I'd be happy to hear some comments too!

- have a nice trip to Turkey dreyer,

Ja, s¥nn halveis.

The last guy was killed after the first pass. He no longer had the ability to do any form of bombing. Just playing with him really :X In any real situation I would never even bother to attack him after the first pass. Too dangerous.

I noticed I was going to crash into that bomber because it was going wayyy to slow! So I pulled up, had the situation under control http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks!

Oh and BTW, my "calm flying style" as you put it is somewhat related to using Keypad (Not hatswitch, EWWW!!) however the main reason is because it is a better and more safe way to fly.

whaddaya mean by "real"? - realreal, or playing-to-not-die-in-the-sim?

HART_dreyer

Well REAL REAL too, however in for isntance a squad mission. I'd move away from the crippled bomber and focus on other tasks, i.e. not getting shot down by enemy escorts.

OK, the ones who say it is easy to down four ace b-17's with a bf-109f.... - put your money where your mouth is!

(the mission is here in the thread!)

But, hey: I actually managed to do it! ...And survive http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This track shows that there is inded justice in this world. Improbable luck is always compensated by baaad luck in the end. (At least that's my way of exonerating myself for stupid (damn' stupid!) carelessness!

Hope you'll enjoy...
